Pat Patterson had been involved in a feud with Sgt Slaughter and his evil manager The Grand Wizard over a couple of months in 1981. Madison Square Garden was the scene for the showdown to settle the score. An Alley Fight Match between the two.

Note: This is right before Slaughter comes to MACW and terrorizes Wahoo McDaniel, Ricky Steamboat and Barry Windham. Who wouldve guessed one of the old school WWF's most vicious matches wouldnt be a cage match, but a onetime only Alley Fight Match.
