NATIONAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES JAKKS AGREEMENT

Charlotte, NC:  The National Wrestling Alliance is pleased  to announce that it has entered into a licensing agreement with JAKKS Pacific for NWA Legends action figures. The five-year deal also covers other products that the parties might look to market in the future.

"Having the opportunity to partner with an industry-leader like JAKKS Pacific is very exciting for us", said NWA Executive Director Robert K. Trobich. "The NWA brand has always stood for the best in professional wrestling, and I think this agreement shows that our brand continues to be recognized as a signature of quality."  Mr Trobich added, "I also want to thank Fred Rubenstein of the NWA Board of Directors for being instrumental in putting this agreement together."

JAKKS Pacific, Inc. is a multi-brand company that, since 1995, has been designing, developing, producing and marketing toys, leisure products and writing instruments for children and adults around the world.

The National Wrestling Alliance is the oldest and most prestigious sanctioning body in the professional wrestling industry. Formed in 1948, the NWA and its members have promoted more wrestling matches before more wrestling fans than any other organization in the world. Truly international in its reach and influence, the NWA name and logo are familiar to wrestling fans in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Australia, the United Kingdom, and virtually everywhere else professional wrestling matches are held.

This is fantastic news for wrestling figure collectors. I'm hoping that many Mid Atlantic greats (Masked Superstar, Mulligan, Jones, Ole & Gene) get made into action figure form.

Just when I thought I'd be done collecting....this is great news if they stay in the RA style or the same size at least. Magnum, Wahoo, Ole, Paul Jones, the Garvins, Muta....the wish list goes on and on.

It will be interesting to see exactly what eras or territories these figures will cover. I'm sure there will be a fair amount of "Crockett" guys included. I imagine that guys like Buddy Rogers, Lou Thesz, etc. will show up as well. I'm really curious as to whether other NWA areas like Memphis, Continental, Florida, World Class (will we finally have Von Erichs to go with our Freebirds 3 pack?)etc. will be represented. I'd love to have figures of Tommy Rich and Austin Idol to go with my Jerry Lawler figure. In fact, the possibilities are quite mind boggling!

Seriously folks, how many NWA "legends" are going to sell the kinda numbers Jakks would need to make money? A dozen or so?

Can't wait to get my hands on one of the J.D. Costello figures.

Greg's right. I don't see anybody being big enough sellers nationwide. Serious collectors can't make it a successful product alone. Most names arent mainstream enough anymore.

True, but also consider that with the Jakks currently "Classic" assortment, we saw guys like Ernie Ladd, The Original Shiek, Jack & Jerry Brisco, other gems such as Johnny Rodz and Andy Kaufman, and countless others that you wouldn't think would be anything more than shelf warmers, but there is certainly a market for them. I do admit however, that moms and dads are more apt to buy a John Cena fig for their kid instead of a Dennis Condrey or a Pez Whatley.

Also, don't forget that they may possibly have internet-only figs, or other types of "exclusive" deals with some wrestling figure sites like Highspots, Ringside Collectibles, etc. that definitely cater the collectors. I suppose all of our questions will be answered soon enough.

A JD Costello figure? Wow, I don't even think I'll go there!   Grin

True, it is a niche market, but they could sell a truckolad of them at fanfest & similar events.

The NWA Line if done correctly like the WWE Classics will be a huge hit.... If they are done opposite of the WWE Classics then it will flop it is as simple as that. And for anyone that does not think the WWE Classics are big is in serious denial and needs to get their pulse checked....

I sorta agree with Greg, there are only a few guys (Steamboat, Von Erichs, Magnum TA, Wahoo and some others) that havent been done by the WWE that have some national viability. I dont think marketing them regionally would work either.

What money was lost on Classic figures of guys like Rodz and Brawler, was probably offset by the various Hogan, Hart, Flair and other figures that were made. Keeping in mind, Rodz, Brawler and Strongbow were loyal to the WWE for many years.

There is a big collector's market out there...but I wonder about distribution of the NWA Figures in places like Walmart, ToysRUs and Target. Heck, the DC Universe 8in figures arent even distributed to every Walmart and more people know Green Arrow than Magnum TA.

Again, they just might do these figures on a limited basis like DC Direct does...which really would be for collectors only.

I guess we'll see.

There is definately a market for these.

they just have to make a set number of them based on the demand.

they need to market harder to internet and collectors rather then mass retail.

look how hard some of these figures are to get.

Any decent Classics are hard to find. Look at Ron Bass.
