SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TAPED: APRIL 14, 1980 @ 2 PM FOR BROADCAST @ 5 PM WTVY-TV CHANNEL 4 STUDIOS DOTHAN, ALABAMA Charlie Platt and Les Thatcher welcome the fans to the show. A VTR is played to re-cap the Southeastern Title change form last week’s program. Rip Tyler is shown attacking the injured arm of Ron Fuller with a pipe. Tyler gets the win when Larry Brock rules that Fuller is unable to defend himself. Platt and Thatcher are joined by The Tylers: Rip, Randy, and Troy T. Troy flaunts the Southeastern title before some of the ringside fans close to the desk. He tells Thatcher that the bias that this promotion has shown toward the Fuller and Welch families has been dealt with. From this point on, the Southeastern fans will have a champion they can look up to and be proud of. At that point, Roy Lee Welch charges out to the desk. Rip and Randy get in front of Troy. Welch says that Ron is at home, under doctor’s orders, or he would be out here today. He laughs at the idea that Troy T. is a champion the people can be proud of. It took an attack on his father, Les Welch, and several ambushes with a lead pipe to get that belt off his cousin Ron. And, Welch points out, Ron Fuller never submitted. The referee made the call. Troy says that it’s just like one of the Welches to come out here and cry about not getting treated fairly now. What about the prejudice the Tylers have had to endure for years? Randy throws a towel toward Roy Lee and tells him to cry in it. Roy Lee starts to slug it out with The Tyler’s. The odds are against him, though, and he is left prone on the studio floor. Troy T. grabs the mike and tells the fans he will show what a man of integrity he is. Roy Lee can have a title shot today right here on TV. Platt says that is real nice since you three men have beaten up the challenger. Troy T. says that’s the way the Welches crumble. The Tylers leave the set. Thatcher mentions that The Tyler entourage has flexed its muscle today and it may be getting bigger. Personality Profile will be about an addition to the Tyler clan. The semi-finals of the World Tag Challenge will take place here today. The winner of the tourney will face the World Tag Team Champions in Montgomery on August 25. Platt says he understands NWA president, Vince McMahon, Sr., has sent a response to the controversy between Boris Malenko and Dick Dunn. An action-packed show starts right after these messages. . . COMMERCIALS . . Bruce Swayze is out with Platt and Thatcher when the show returns. The three of them talk about last week’s refusal of Lawman Don Slatton to join Swayze’s faction. Swayze points out that without him in their corner Slatton and Stallings lost their tag match last week. He calls out the team of Fire and Ice. Swayze points out that these men won because of the master management of Bruce Swayze. It is now time to show how truly valuable he can be. Swayze calls out The Untouchables. They proceed to pummel Fire and Ice. The two behemoths roll Fire and Ice into the ring and the waiting Randy and Rip Tyler. WORLD TAG CHALLENGE-SEMIFINALS FIRE/ICE w/??? VS. RIP/RANDY TYLER This match is basically a squash contest due to the beating The Untouchables gave Fire and Ice. The fans rally behind the masked duo but the Tylers prevail. Rip does the honors with a running leg drop on Fire @ 5:03. Swayze gets in front of the camera and speaks to Don Slatton again. Does he want to be with him or without him? Thatcher says a totally pissed Roy Lee Welch will wrestle for the Southeastern Title next. . . COMMERICALS . . SOUTHEASTERN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TROY T. TYLER (C) vs. ROY LEE WELCH Troy T. dominates this match until Roy Lee pulls down the top rope and a charging Tyler hits the studio floor. The staccato clapping of the fans fires Welch up. Welch takes the advantage and just plain beats Tyler up. He makes two very close two count covers with snap suplexes. The other Tylers get involved when Troy throws Roy Lee to the floor. Referee Jimmy McGuire call for the DQ bell @ 7:29. The beating continues until Roy Lee is able to put his hand under the ring. He pulls out a pipe similar to the one The Tylers used last week. The Tylers disperse. Troy T. goes over to the desk and grabs the mike. He calls out for Eddie Sullivan to come out and get his crazy friend. Thatcher asks why Tyler feels that he can order Super Sully around. Sullivan does come out. He pulls Roy Lee away from ringside. He talks to Welch but Roy Lee seems surprised and angry about Sullivan’s involvement. Tyler laughs. Sullivan looks back at Tyler, as he and Welch go behind the curtain. Platt and Thatcher both say they are confused. Troy T. says they need to listen to PERSONALITY PROFILE in just a few minutes to get the rest of the story. Platt says he will do just that, as the music plays for the commercial break.. . COMMERCIALS . . PERSONALITY PROFILE HOSTED BY: CHARLIE PLATT The show returns to Platt at the desk. He is sitting with Troy T. Tyler. Eddie Sullivan is off camera, just outside the dressing room entrance. A film clip is shown of a man wearing a towel helping Troy T. Tyler beat Ron Fuller in Birmingham this past Monday night. Platt demands to know who that man is and what that has to do with Eddie Sullivan coming out and watching us. Tyler says he is never surprised how stupid Platt can be. That man is obviously Eddie Sullivan. The crowd shouts “NO” in a collective denial. Once again, Eddie Sullivan receives an order from the Southeastern champion. Tyler tells Sully to come to the desk and tell the fans why he betrayed his friends Ron Fuller and Roy Lee Welch. A forlorn Sullivan comes to the desk and, in an apologetic voice, starts the rest of the story. Sullivan says that when he was younger that he made a lot of business mistakes that were just because he didn’t know better. During a previous tenure here in Alabama, with Gulf Coast Wrestling, he signed his name to an open contract that any manager could pick up. At that point in his career, Eddie said he was looking for any advantage he could get. He had long forgotten about that contract. Troy interrupts Sullivan and pushes him away. He calls Sullivan’s intelligence into question and says he will take it from here. Troy says he was in the SECW offices here in Dothan, along with Randy, signing some contracts. Randy was taking care of some business with a receptionist, if you know what I mean, when he spotted that contract. He grabbed it while the lady was otherwise occupied. I put my name on it and I am now the manager of Eddie Sullivan. I hold his livelihood in my hands. He has been doing my bidding in subtle ways for a while. It is time for everything to be out in the open. Now, I will not let Eddie’s family go hungry. I am not totally heartless. But, now, Sullivan won’t have everything handed to him. Sullivan, you will see what the bottom is like, just like The Tyler family had to do around here for years. Tyler continues to berate Sullivan until Platt calls for a commercial. . . COMMERCIALS . . After the break, Boris Malenko and his Brigade (Bill Ash, Butch Malone, Jim Dalton, and Alabama champ Norvell Austin) join Thatcher and Platt at the desk. Malenko remarks that he has heard that a video tape from NWA President Vince McMahon has made its way to the TV studio. He and his men are here to see it. Platt calls for that VTR to be run. McMahon is seated at a desk in front of the NWA logo. He says he has gotten written responses from all parties concerned in the Dick Dunn-Boris Malenko controversy. On a personal note, he does not care at all for Boris Malenko and what he stands for. Nevertheless, the Professor is right that Dick Dunn cannot be physically involved in rivalries and maintain the objectivity needed to be SECW Commissioner. Therefore, McMahon rules, if Dick Dunn is physically involved with any situation in SECW from this point on, he will be stripped of his position as SECW Commissioner. Malenko is ecstatic. He will show how Brigade matters will be taken care of now that Dick Dunn is not a concern. NORVELL AUSTIN defeats ARGENTINA APOLLO with a brain buster @ 5:28. After the match, the entire Brigade, including Malenko, attacks Apollo. The beating is fierce until a masked man comes out wielding a chair. He swings it and clears the ring. Platt wonders who the masked man is but Thatcher says he met him in the parking lot of the studio earlier. He calls himself the Alabama Jammer. Malenko comes to the desk, out of breath. He is yelling, “Dunn, Dick Dunn”. He vows to prove it. Platt tells him all that remains to be seen. Thatcher says the main event is next. . . COMMERCIALS . . WORLD TAG CHALLENGE-SEMIFINALS BUTCH MALONE/JIM DALTON w/BORIS MALENKO vs. BOB ARMSTRONG/TIM HORNER Malenko is so upset from the previous match that he loses his cool with referee Jimmy McGuire. Boris shoves him and is sent to the dressing room. Malone and Dalton don’t miss a beat, though, isolating the veteran Bob Armstrong in their corner. Bob makes a comeback and tags in Horner, who jams Dalton’s arm into the mat. The faces concentrate on the arm, getting several near falls or submissions. Late, McGuire goes down from an accidental kick from Horner. Horner has Dalton in his bridging roll up, while Armstrong and Malone are on the floor. Bill Ash comes out and clotheslines Horner. He puts Dalton on top but is met by Ricky Gibson. Gibson throws Ash out and suplexes Dalton. After Gibson revives McGuire, Horner makes the tag to Bob. Armstrong puts the cobra clutch on Dalton and gets the submission @ 11:58. Malenko comes and vows revenge from the ring, as Armstrong, Horner, and Gibson go to the locker room. Thatcher and Platt encourage the fans to tune in next week for the finals of the World Tag Challenge. © SECW 1980
