Man this is really sad, just met him at the Fanfest. We talked and set up an interview for September. R.I.P. he was a really nice guy from the little I got to talk to him.

I got to spend some time with him up in New Jersey back in December and at the 2007 NWA Legends Fanfest. We ate lunch in December before I took him to the airport. He did an quick interview with me before he wanted to beat feet to get through the airport. I'll be posting that interview soon as it will be going on the Rip Hawk documentary DVD, but it is sad because I was going to go out and visit him in Dallas and talk about the old days. I'm sad I missed him in Charlotte this year, but that is what I get for doing airport runs for the vendors. Then again, if I didn't do this service, I wouldn't get the chance to spend so much time with these guys.

To the rest of the legends out there, take care of yourself and be careful. We don't need to see anymore names joining the heavenly wrestling league upstairs!

just saw this on Pro Wrestling Torch.
man, this is horrible. he was seeming so good at Fanfest. walking around a little stiff, but looked good otherwise.
again Greg, thanks for Fanfest. most of us would never had the chances to meet some of our heroes without events like the ones you do, much less get to see him work one more match like he did just two short weeks ago in charlotte.

I absolutely hated to hear this, especially so soon after Ted Allen.  I had the honor of sitting with Mr. Akbar at the Hall of Heroes.  Jim Ross even asked if I was Akbar's date for the evening, which got Terry Funk's attention.

And of course, getting to see him on the Saturday night card was excellent as well.

I'm actually dazed by all this.  RIP General.

Skandor, what a gemntleman and true professional. It was always a pleasure to see him and chat with him either in locker room or at various signing events.  Sad news! Great loss to us all. I will miss him.
I don't ever recall him having a bad word about anyone in the business .

Wow...Just saw him and enjoyed a great conversation with him in Charlotte a couple of weeks ago...RIP General...As he said in a recent interview, WCCW in the early 80's was "Dragons vs. Dragon Slayers" and Devastation Incorporated were the dragons...What a great timeframe to be a fan and see the magic he created...He was a true gentleman and class act to professional wrestling.  He will be sorely missed.  My thoughts and prayers to his family.
