SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TAPED: AUGUST 21, 1980 @ 2 PM FOR BROADCAST @ 5 PM WTVY-TV CHANNEL 4 STUDIOS DOTHAN, ALABAMA Charlie Platt and Les Thatcher welcome the fans to the program. Both men send get well wishes to Les Welch. The Tylers come out to the desk. Eddie Sullivan comes out a little bit behind them. Troy T. says that he wishes Welch well, too. He misses someone to pick on. He, then, turns his attention to Eddie Sullivan. He points out that he owns the contract of Eddie Sullivan and that means he owns the man, too. Sullivan will do exactly as the Tylers want if he wants any paycheck at all to take home. The shenanigans from last night in the Farm Center better not happen today. The Tylers will beat Armstrong and Horner today for that World Tag Title shot on Wednesday night in Montgomery. Troy says Sullivan will see to it. Ron Fuller and Roy Lee Welch come out to the desk. Thatcher implores both groups to make sure that cooler heads prevail. Fuller tells Platt he doesn’t think for one minute that Eddie Sullivan’s heart is into helping these fools. Nevertheless, he will make sure that Armstrong and Horner get a fair shake. He and Roy Lee will be in their corner. Both teams almost come to blows but Thatcher separates them. The Tylers say that they will have more gold than they can handle soon after winning today. Ron Fuller says, later on, he has more news for Troy T. Thatcher says more matches for the Back-to-School Spectacular will be announced here today. Platt says he will talk with an up-and-comer here in SECW, Ted Allen, on today’s Personality Profile. All in all, a dynamite show. Both men tell the fans to not turn that dial. . . COMMERCIALS . . THE ALABAMA JAMMER/LAWMAN DON SLATTON/JOEY ROSSI defeat PRINCE PULLINS/RICK LINK/THE EXECUTIONER when Rossi lands a flying body press of the top rope on The Executioner @ 6:38. The winning trio joins Les Thatcher at ringside. Thatcher talks, first, to the masked man, the Alabama Jammer. Thatcher says that Professor Boris Malenko thinks that Jammer is Commissioner Dick Dunn. Jammer says that he does emulate Dunn because Dick taught him everything he knows. Thatcher announces that the Commissioner told him earlier that an over-the-top Battle Royal will start the card this Wednesday at the Montgomery Civic Center. The winner of the Battle royal will wrestle Norvell Austin for the Alabama Title later that night. Jammer says he would like to shut Malenko up by taking that strap. Slatton and Rossi say that they want a chance, too. In any event, the stable of Bruce Swayze, The Untouchables and Mario Milano, will wrestle Rossi, Slatton, and Frank Dalton in a six man bout. To keep everything on the up and up, Len Rossi and Bruce Swayze will be in cages at ringside. Slatton says Swayze will not be as much of an advantage as he thinks he is in that jailhouse. Thatcher says that the team of Roy Lee Welch and Ron Fuller will wrestle next. . . COMMERCIALS . . RON FULLER w/ROY LEE WELCH and TANK PATTON defeats GETO MONGOL when Fuller catches Mongol in the Fuller Leg Lock @ 5:59. Fuller, Welch and Patton go to the desk to talk to Platt. Fuller looks hard at the camera and mentions the pipe that the Tylers used on him several times. Roy Lee used it last week and those chickens left real quickly. Fuller suggests putting this pipe on a pole and seeing who could get it first. Ron says it doesn’t have to be for the title in Montgomery. He just wants a chance to bust Troy like he was busted. Roy Lee mentions that Eddie Sullivan seemingly going over to the other side had left him without a partner. That’s when Tank Patton came to him. After driving and talking with Patton, he discovered they have a lot in common. Tank says they are just two good old boys… young, hungry, and pissed off. The Tylers don’t want any of that recipe. Platt says “Personality Profile” is next. . . COMMERCIALS . . PERSONALITY PROFILE HOST: CHARLIE PLATT Platt is in the interview room. He is seated next to Ted Allen, who is dressed in a nice suit. Platt says that he has been impressed by the youngster Allen as he has worked his way up the ranks here in SECW. Allen says this is the sport he has decided to make his career and he will take all the praise he can, at this point, for motivation. Allen shares with Platt some of his background in athletics. He went to Cass High School in Cartersville, Georgia. He played basketball, baseball, wrestled, and ran cross country track. He edited the school newspaper and did radio play-by-play for school sports. He started watching pro wrestling at 9. At 14, he became the ring announcer for the weekly matches in Cartersville. Ted had a short stint at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. He became a pro wrestler in 1975, going by the name of Ted Atlas. By 1977, he had made his way to wrestling in Nashville and the Nick Gulas promotion. Referee Charlie Smith helped him get involved with wrestling in his native Georgia. He just recently made the decision to wrestle full time. He is still soaking up everything he can, from training to constructing and putting up a ring. Platt says that he is sure that when Ted Allen hangs up the boots for good, people will say good things about him. Allen thanks Platt as the interview concludes. R.I.P TED ALLEN (1955-2010) . . COMMERCIALS . . KEN LUCAS w/ RICKY GIBSON defeats STEVE LAWLER with a sleeper @ 6:22. The Southeastern Tag Team champs are interviewed in the ring by Platt. Lucas makes reference to their tag title defense in Montgomery against Butch Malone and Jim Dalton. Gibson refers to it as the First Day/Last Day Challenge. Platt explains that to both sets of fans. It is the first day back to school for the kids in Montgomery and it will be the last day Malone and Dalton will get a title shot. Dalton, Malone, and their manager, Boris Malenko, come to ringside and taunt the champs. While Lucas and Gibson are occupied, Bill Ash sneaks up from behind and… THROWS FIRE INTO THE FACE OF RICKY GIBSON. Lucas goes after Ash at first but quickly turns his attention to Gibson. The locker room empties into the ring and The Brigade leaves. Thatcher goes to the ring and the camera goes to black. . . COMMERCIALS . . When the program returns to the studio, Platt and Thatcher say that Gibson has been taken to a local medical facility. Ricky did assure Thatcher, though, that he will be there with Ken Lucas to defend the SECW tag titles in Montgomery. WORLD TAG CHALLENGE-FINALS BOB ARMSTRONG/TIM HORNER vs. RIP/RANDY TYLER Fuller and Welch cancel out the influence of Troy T. and Sullivan early on. Horner and Armstrong take the first advantage of the contest. They are able to isolate Rip in their corner and work on his shoulder and neck. Armstrong is tripped on a criss cross by Randy and leaves himself open to a knee in the back from Rip. Troy and a reluctant Sullivan distract Joe Powell by going after Fuller and Welch. The Tylers can and do break the rules because of it. The family feud plays an important part in the results of this bout. Rip is holding Horner and Troy calls for Sullivan to hit Horner. Sullivan hesitates and gives Horner some extra time. Tim frees himself and Sullivan takes out Rip. Horner makes a hot tag, throwing Randy through the ropes. Fuller, Welch, Troy, and Sullivan fight it out on the floor. Bob clamps on a cobra clutch and Rip submits at 12:03. BOB ARMSTRONG and TIM HORNER WILL FACE THE ANDERSONS THIS WEDNESDAY IN MONTGOMERY FOR THE NWA WORLD TAG TITLES. Thatcher and Platt encourage the fans to tune in next week to see the fallout from the Back-to-School Spectacular in Montgomery. © SECW 1980
