Question for everyone...
Dec 13th, 2010, 3:40pm

Got a question for everyone here.

Whether you're a regular or a newbie to fanfest, I'm always curious how you FIRST heard about our fanfest weekends. If it was on the net, I'd like to know the website. If it was by word of mouth, I'd like to know who told you about us.

Even if you have NOT been to fanfest, I'm still curious how you heard about us and I'd love to know what we can do to get you here Smiley

I really appreciate the support of everyone over the years, and I hope each of you have a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and the best the holiday season has to offer.

Thanks,

Greg

My fist hearings of the shows were on the Signamania message board.  That was when i really started going to these things and I noticed people saying they didn;t want certain guests, etc because they had already met them in Charlotte.

I am pretty positive i heard about it online here and then Dusty was talking about it on one of the shows I was on with him back in late 2003. I really wished I would have no showed my girlfriend at the time for that stupid Gatlingburg, TN trip (which really sucked) and been in Charlotte in January 2004.

Back in the summer of 2004 me and my family were in line at a Kurt Angle autograph session in Fayetteville, NC and I was handed a flyer for the Fayettevill, NC fest going on a few months later. I couldn't make it to that one but I checked out the site a few months later and learned about Bret Hart's appearance in Charlotte and knew that I had to check it out.

Here I am 6 years later, thousands of dollars spent and even more awesome memories made  Grin

I agree with Brochester, I check out WrestlingFigs.com every couple of days and they have a pretty solid, reliable, consistent section in there that lists all Fanfests, Autograph Signings, Appearances, etc. Thanks to that section, I've been able to attend signings with Flair, Mickie James, Undertaker, and a couple of others that I wouldn't have even knew existed if not for their site.

I saw the paragraph on the 2010 Fanfest, some of the names caught my eye, I clicked the link for nwalegends.com and the rest was history.

I heard about the first Fan Fest on the Kayfabe Memories message board, but I hardly ever go there now. I get most of my wrestling/autograph news on Marked Out or Wrestling Figs now.

My first Fanfest was 2007 but I was aware of it from inception. Probably heard about it via a website or forum I visit.

It does get mentioned on a few UK sites here and there and over the years I have been contacted by people wanting info and advice from a fellow UKer with a view to attending.

I doubt that other than one or two additionals to me and and Kris that you would ever get many more UK fans over to be honest.

The main issue is the expense involved. As a secondary issue I just don't believe that the majority of UK fans have a genuine interest in these kind of things (especially when they feature more obscure names).

Ben hit the nail on the head - you won't get a full-blown British Invasion for three key reasons:

1. The cost of flights in peak summer season. Since 2009, the flights have increased by $200 to $300 for a round trip.

2. A lot of the names that appear at these excellent shows are of no interest to most British fans (they'd rather see a line-up of Hardcore Holly-type names)

3. British fans can't understand the concept of paying to meet talent. Anything more than $10 an item is seen as daylight robbery by most

On topic - I think Wrestlingfigs was the place that got this show onto my radar.

Heard about Flair's first apperance while I was working in Statesville NC, read it in the charlotte paper.  Heard about the Horseman reunion on TV.  Went last year and had the time of my life.

First heard about the FanFest when I started regularly listening to InYourHeadOnline's wrestling radio show in 2007... It was right after their '07 trip to the event and it sounded like a lot of fun... Jack & Incher's annual trips to the FanFests are actually referenced quite a bit in their shows, and as the '08 show started getting closer and closer they began having more and more guests for the '08 FanFest on to hype that year's events... I decided to go based solely on their stories and guests and I wasn't let down... I've gone twice now and hope to go again next year... In Your Head does a helluva job promoting each year's show, and even when I feel like I don't have enough money to go, their shows wind up changing my mind in the end...

Heard about the first two in '04 through various sites, then Adam (Fester), who I only knew from briefly chatting at indy shows, approached me about doing the Starrcade tribute.  We did, and the rest is history.

I agree, and I'm very appreciative of everything they do to help spread the word.

We all have ways to help get the word out. Tell a friend, forward our email newsletter to a friend or wrestling website. Anything ANY of you can do to help tell others about our fanfest weekends is much appreciated.

MUCH appreciated!

Thanks,

Greg

A friend of mine told me that he was reading a lot about CCW in the dirt sheets (maybe the Wrestling Observer).  I found information online about it while looking for CCW stuff.

Mid Atlantic Gateway (best wrestling site in the world)!! This was late 2003 I THINK as I recall I was thinking of going to that January 04 fanfest in Charlotte, but chickened out (seemed a really extravagant and out there thing to do, to go to some weird foreign country on my own Wink , on a Kaufman-esque trip....I had a bad record visiting our former colonies, including a trip to india where I caught dysentery from bad cashew nuts, and I figured Buford T Justice might shoot me for the bad bleached blond hairdo I had at the time). I finally got it together to go in August 2005. Just one of the best decisions of my life....

And now I absolutely love North Carolina....one of my 2 favourite places in the world

I've been to every Fanfest and I'm pretty sure that I read about it on the Mid-Atlantic Gateway. Not really sure what I was expecting but hoping that I would not be dissapointed. The crowd for the first one was unreal. The lines were way too long, the wait was crazy, by Sunday lots of people avoided the autograph lines. I stuck it out and got everyone's autograph. My wife & I both were worn out by the end, sounds like a bad experience but I was glad to have done it. Greg made changes and every one has run smoother than the previous ones for me.

Greg,

My best buddy Marcus Mays (the "We Hate Cena Guy" that John Cena hugged last night on WWE Raw) attended Capitol Wrestling Legends in 2006.  He told me all about it and how he got to meet so many of his favorite wrestlers from childhood.  From then on, I started keeping up with your website, and attended my 1st fanfest the next year in Charlotte.

That experience combined with my experience in 2010 has made me a Fanfest fan for life!

Regards,
Nate
