2012 Charlotte Questions

For many of you I know this may seem kinda early, but I need to start making budgeting plans for next years Fanfest because sometime between now and next year, we are probably moving somewhere between New Orleans and Mobile.

I am weighing the advantages of flying vs driving.

I understand from some of y'alls posts, there are ample food options within walking distance from the hotel.  What kind of places are we talking?

Is there shuttle service from the airport available?  Is it reasonable or is renting a car more viable option.

I believe that it is an adult establishment where young surgically enhanced ladies sway oddly to loud music.  But that is only a nasty rumor that I've heard about.

The mexican place and the italian place in the shops across the lake are great. Boardwalk Billys is good and Smoky Bones is pretty tasty also.  TGI Friday's is nearby also. Lots of choices. Can't wait to get back!

Jesus Christ, Are you seriously concerned where you're gonna eat a year from now????  Grin

To be blunt, yes, there are certain eating establishments I don't eat at under any circumstance, others I prefer not to eat, and places I gravitate towards.  If I don't drive and/or rent a car, my options are more limited and I like to know generally what they are.  I realize some of you might think me a bit strange and think of me a food snob.  Reality is, I am a food snob.

I'm with ya, brother!  I also like to know what's near me when I go away.  Taste buds aside, it also helps you budget your money!

I also only listed the places I have personally gone to, and highly recommend.  There are others in the area that are not as good as those.  Also, if you can get a reservation there, The Speedway Club at Lowes Motor Speedway is great from what I hear.  Also you can take a tour of the track and ride around on the track itself in a van for a very low price.

There are many many dining options in walking distance from the hotel, so a car isn't necessary (you can get a cab to/from the airport....or even a city bus if you really wanna be frugal!!) BUT if you're into fine dining / steaks / real 'que / real fried chicken et al then some driving will be required to get the best local examples. Of course, at Fanfest everyone tends to hunt in packs as far as grub is concerned, and someone in your 'group' will have a car, or you can all split a cab to get where you need to be going....so it tends to work itself out....

For my money I reckon breakfast is covered, between the Shoney's breakfast buffet down the street, and the hotel's own (pricey but good) breakfast buffet. Although it's all cognisant on your personal comprehension of 'pricey' & 'good'....
