2011 Hall of Heroes Raffle Belt
Sep 22nd, 2011, 11:26am

Thanks to everyone for their responses to the other thread, where I solicited your input on what to do with the unclaimed Hall of Heroes championship belt from this year's fanfest.

I'd like to again solicit your feedback. My reasons for doing so, quite honestly, is because I'm not quite sure the best way to handle it and -- regardless of what we ultimately do -- I don't want to be accused of doing something improper.

It seems like the only fair thing at this point would be to have another raffle or a silent auction like we did with Mr. Wrestling II's robe. Those, at least, have been the two options suggested by most. A raffle would be difficult, just because we're all so distanced from each other. For that reason only, I guess I'd lean towards the auction.

I'd really like to make a decision on this in the next few days, and definitely appreciate any feedback you guys have to share. Thanks!

oh well, this is why i held on to my tickets cause ya never know what might happen. i could still do another raffle (with the same tickets  Smiley)

well, an auction would make up some money, i am sure, but it might get too costly for most to bid much on. but if that is what you decide to do, i'll bid what i can and hope for the best. i'm cool with whatever you decide on.

Had we held onto all the ticket stubs, a re-draw might be an option, but we don't have them  embarrassed

I'd definitely like this to be a group decision on what to do in this case.

Next year, we'll have printed tickets that require a name and either phone number or email address. That way we will definitely know the winner and can notify them if they're not present at the time of the drawing.

I don't know the answer but , every year I buy $50 or more for not only a chance at the belt but for the cause. It doesn't seam right that me and the other people who have already invested now watch a non ticket buyer take the prize. This is a tough one Greg. Good luck. Ps. Please repost the #.

per above quote this is the reason i say have 2 raffle drawing next year to be fare everyone can pay a dollar everyone cant start out on a 1,000.00 dollar bid!!!!!!! and we know its going to exceed that easy so in reality that limits the fans who would be able to participate

why not just do a reraffle at next years fest for this belt at the end of day on saturday...and the belt for next years fest raffle off as usual on sunday?....just use 2 different color tix for each belt so we know that winning tix is for the right raffle   Huh

On all future raffles, we'll use tickets that require your name and contact info on them. That eliminates the need to be present to win and also eliminates the chances of this year's situation happening again.

I like John's idea the most. The beauty of the raffle is that anyone can win, regardless of your financial situation. You could walk up 30 seconds before the drawing, spend your last dollar, and walk away with a priceless belt.

The auction seems like the most logical step, sadly. Problem is, it becomes less about "anyone can win" and more about which fan has the most money to throw around.

Why not do a second raffle, and just have everyone write their names and address on the ticket stubs that they kept and mail them down to Greg?

I think a reason not to do that, as some have stated previously, not everyone kept their tickets after the winner was drawn and they didn't have the winning number.

My concern on this from the beginning has been that we do the right and fair thing. Or at least the closest thing to that, given that a lot of folks probably no longer have their tickets and we no longer have the original tickets to draw from.

Maybe the best we could do at this point is to have a second raffle next year, or at least a second prize next year. It's going to be tough to please everyone, but maybe we can all agree on something like this?

You can still do that while still having a Saturday raffle for that belt and a Sunday raffle for the new belt. To me the Saturday raffle just sounds like the best way to be fair to everyone and make everybody happy

I don't think we'll have two separate raffles. One raffle. First number drawn gets their choice of belts (2011 or 2012,) and second number drawn gets the other one. Thoughts?

Gonna be a tough call for the winner to decide which one of those babies is coming home, and which one is being left behind. But what a sweet problem to have!  Cheesy
