My Favorite Flair Promo
Jan 11th, 2012, 6:44pm

There is a promo I remember seeing where Ric Flair had recently won the NWA Heavyweight Title from Dusty Rhodes.  Apparently several days before the title change, Tully Blanchard had injured Dusty's leg by attacking him with a steel chair in I think Kansas City.

Anyway, Flair showed up on TV with the belt and it looked like his first promo since regaining the belt.  He made some memorable quotes such as "We run this part of the country and we make a lot of money doing it"!  Flair also talked about Dusty and said something like "I'll give you the due.  It took a hell of a man to walk that aisle and face me, injured leg or not, but that's what you do when you're The NWA World's Heavyweight Champion!  You don't call up the office and say I don't feel good today; you walk that aisle because you're a man."

Part way through the promo when Flair starts getting really worked up and he takes his sunglasses off.  That's where it really starts getting intense.

I'd like to be able to see this on youtube but I don't know what to type.  I've tried lots of different things  Maybe it isn't on youtube.  Does this promo sound familiar to anyone and if so, do you know if it's available on DVD?

BTW, what would have been the approximate date of this promo?  I'm pretty sure it took place sometime during that summer's Great American Bash.  But I don't know the month or date.  The year would have been 1985 or 1986.

If it's the time period I'm thinking of, propbably July 86 or somewhere thereabouts?

The title change occured on 8/9/86 in St. Louis. This particular interview was on World Wide Wrestling on 8/16/86 I believe. It would have been taped Sunday 8/10/86. It was a great promo no doubt! "Dusty Rhodes, you're a helluva man, but now you're lookin' in the door again...WOOOO!"

That's the one!!! That's exactly how Flair ended the promo!

So if it was shown on World Wide Wrestling on 8/16/86 was that the show on Turner's Superstation? Do you know any way I might be able to get ahold of it, or at least see it on youtube if it's not for sale anywhere?

World Wide Wrestling was the locally shown show on regional network affiliates. World Championship Wrestling was the show that aired on TBS. The WCW show has an equally great interview by Flair. It is hard to go wrong with any of Naitch's interviews from 1985-1988. The WCW show would have been taped that Saturday Morning, on 8/16/86, and shows a better video version of the Flair title win. The match highlights and finish are both seen on World Wide Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling. I guess I cannot PM through here so send me an email and I will help you find copies of these episodes. My email is:
