Fanfest By The Numbers
Jan 31st, 2012, 10:39am

If you come across anyone that wants to criticize our fanfest lineups for "lame, repeat guests," I encourage you to do the math with me.

Atlanta had more than 40 featured guests, more than double and almost triple the number of guests you'd get at any other wrestling "convention." Yet the fanfest VIP price remains lower than any comparable event.

First-time fanfest guests (9): "Outlaw" Ron Bass, Buddy Colt, "The Universal Hearthrob" Austin Idol, "Doctor D" David Schultz, Killer Tim Brooks, Leilani Kai, Teddy Long, Moondog Rex, and Ron Simmons made their first-ever fanfest appearances in Atlanta!

First-ever appearances (11): Joe Pedicino, Boni Blackstone, Big Mama, Lars Anderson, Steve O, Joyce Grable, Gypsy Joe, "Continental Lover" Eddie Mansfield, Scrappy McGowan, Pat Rose and Randy Rose made their first-ever appearance at ANY wrestling-related event at our Atlanta fanfest.

Killer Karl Kox and Mongolian Stomper would have been two more fresh guests, had health issues not kept them from appearing.

Even if you had no interest in either of the other 21 "repeat" featured guests (Ole Anderson, The Assassin, Mr. Wrestling II, "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase, "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas, The Masked Superstar, Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk, "Wildfire" Tommy Rich, Nick Bockwinkel, Harley Race, Judy Martin, Thunderbolt Patterson, Stan "The Lariat" Hansen, "Hands of Stone" Ron Garvin, Tully Blanchard, "The Perfect 10" Baby Doll, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, "Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff, James J. Dillon, and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka,) there were at least 20 "fresh" fanfest guests in Atlanta.

And there were tons of vendor guests making their first fanfest appearances, as well: Roddy Piper, Rob Van Dam, Pampero Firpo, Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, etc.

You will encounter naysayers everywhere. Just realize the venom they spew comes from some silly little personal grudge or animosity they carry inside of them. The facts, and numbers, just don't support their arguments.

Greg,
I really hate to hear that people say these things. I haven't went to many fanfests myself but I do keep up at who is going to be at the other fanfests and there prices and I have to say yours is by far a lot cheaper than others. Definitely with the fact of getting 40 guests. I notice others are 200 or more for only around 15 so how people can criticize you is strange.

I for one understand repeat guests. Your trying to sell as many tickets as possible and you have to have names that a lot of fans recognize not just those fans from the 70's and 80's. Names like the Funks, Dibiase, Teddy Long, Simmons, Atlas, Blanchard, Ole, Race, Hansen and Valetine are names most all wrestling fans know. Therefore it attracts more fans that haven't been to past shows. If you brough each of those back I wouldn't complain at all.

Names like big Mama, Lars Anderson, Buddy Colt, Tim Brooks, Dr D, Steve O, Gypsy Joe and Mansfield (even Mr. Wrestling II and Masked Superstar, I mean how many people from the 90s know that Masked Superstar is also ax) aren't going to sell 100s of tickets because only the older fans know who they are. They are great names to add for those older fans though and great for learning who they are for younger folk.

I feel you successully mix the featured guests to satisfy everyone and I am sorry others may not feel that way.

the amount of starpower in Atlanta last year was a dream for me and I'm looking forward to Charlotte this year. Thanks for all your hard work.

I would love for someone to come up to Mr. Race and call him 'lame.'  I know he has at least one more good left in him.

Greg you do a great job, and it is a shame that I will have to leave the state for the next convention that I go to after this one.

I'm sure that they all will pale in comparison.
