NWA Fanfest Video Ops?  Response Needed
Feb 13th, 2012, 3:25pm

Hello Friends,

As a wrestling fan, I have attended multiple wrestling conventions: some on the east coast, some on the west coast, and some down south.  Each convention has its own flavor and has things that set it apart from others.

One convention that I have attended allows fans to do video ops/promos with the favorite wrestler(s).  Essentially, for a fee of $30-50 (depending on the talent booked), you can create your own skit/promo, give the wrestler a few talking points, and then let them work their magic.  At the end, a member of their staff gives you a sD card with a memory to last a lifetime.  I can honestly say, that I cherish these video ops, because never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought I'd get the opportunity to do promos with people like Vader, Mick Foley, and Kevin Sullivan.  I've also done video ops with a few others,  but here are some that I've uploaded to Youtube:

Vader
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc6-hwpGwKI&feature=related

Mick Foley
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcZABUfjtiE&feature=youtu.be

Kevin Sullivan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=squERkZcBUs&feature=related

The questions that I have are this:

How much interest would there be if Greg were to set up something similar for NWA Fanfest?
How much would you be willing to pay?
What wrestlers would you like to participate?

Finally, I plan to upload the rest of my video ops soon to share with others.  If you have also done these video ops, I think you should upload yours as well.  Provide a link so that we all can see what a great concept this is!

I told Nate earlier today my only concern about the video ops is that I'd like to hand back to you an edited promo. Edited in that we add fanfest "bumpers" on either side of the promo to make it look a little more "official" than some of the others I've seen and so that everyone will ALWAYS know where you did the promo at.

Do you think folks like yourself that are interested would be willing to wait until the end of the weekend to get an SD card with ALL of your promos on it from the weekend? I think that would be a best-case scenario. That may even be pushing it to be able to edit/add those bumpers to each promo. Would folks be willing to have the SD cards mailed to them after the fact?

Several years ago, we almost offered a similar video promo for Bob Caudle/David Crockett. Technology has improved a great deal in recent years and I can definitely see this as something new for this year's fanfest. Of course, the interest would need to be there and us be able to manage the process smoothly.

I'm interested in the feedback as well.

Depending on who was offered, I'd be interested.  As for the wait, I'm good with that too

Absofreakinlutely I'd be interested.  I'm by no means social or creative, but given enough time to think about it, I'm sure I could think of something for one of my favorites to talk about.  I mean, to have Vader or Mick Foley (as Cactus Jack or Mankind), or any other well known wrestlers do a promo on whatever you want would be incredible.

I'd probably pay up to $50 for something like that.  And if it was a bigger name, I'd PROBABLY pay more.  To Greg, yes, I would be willing to wait on the promos until after the weekend, or even have them mailed.  It wouldn't matter to me, as long as I got them at some point.

I think this is a great idea, although I could never cut a promo the likes of Nate the Great. Mine would be more in line with Daniel the Spaniel I believe. I'm not fond of a $50 price tag, but if it was in the $25-30 range I'd go for it.

While this isn't up MY alley, I completely understand the appeal.

If GP decides to do this, you can bet he'll take it to the next level.  I've always said that Greg's "little details" MAKE the show!

Besides the obvious, Nate the Great, I would have to go with The Koloffs or Dusty Rhodes.

Dusty Rhodes and Rowdy Roddy Piper would be my two most wanted.  I didn't really appreciate Dusty Rhodes until I watched his dvd a few weeks ago for the first time.  That man is by far one of my favorites of all time now.

While I can understand how some people would jump at such an opportunity, even my ego isn't so big that I need to see myself cutting a promo with anyone! LOL

For those like Brett, how about this....

"Hi wrestling fans and welcome to another exciting hour of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling! I'm Bob Caudle and I'm joined this week by Brett Schwann and we're coming to you live from NWA Fanfest 2012! Brett, what's on your agenda for this weekend?"

And maybe share some of your weekend activities?

So instead of a hokey promo where you pretend to be someone else, why not just a realistic, truthful promo that will help you remember the moment for years to come?

Just an idea on another way these video promos could be useful to some.

What do you guys think?

Greg, that's exactly what I was thinking.  Don't try to be an '80's wrestler making a promo against an opponent before Wrestlemania, just be yourself, ask honest questions, and have a video you can cherish forever.

That being said, I have to elaborate on my last post about this.  When I said I would be interested, I mean I'd be interested in wel-known names to the public.  Some names I've seen on here, I've never heard of.  And some names I've never heard of, or think are low card people, some people on here are HUGE fans of them, or think of them as their favorites, and really want to meet them.

So yeah, only if it's really well known names to me would I do it.  And I would do it enthusiastically.  I really hope this happens.  Especially if I end up going.

Can you imagine doing a promo with Mean Gene?

Of course, the video promos will be more suited for the talents that were originally "good promo" guys.

We need to keep in mind the extra time involved in making these video promos. Time is money, and all of these guys like money. I guess what I'm trying to say is that for these to be worth the time and energy involved in making them happen, there needs to be a lot of interest. If there isn't a lot of interest, we just won't do them or we'll only do a couple of those that are the most requested.

But if you aren't going to be here anyway.....

I won't know if I'm coming for a few months, after most of the guests are announced.  But if I'm there, and I will let you know in a few months, I can confidently say I'm completely interested.  I really hope everyone else gets on board, because I think it's a fantastic idea.

Can he say my name as "Schwan", which is how it is spelled? LOL

Again, I completely understand why some would want to do this. Having the opportunity to share the screen with one of their wrestling heroes is most likely a huge thrill for many.

However, I have no desire to share my weekend activities, to view at a later date. What is my response going to be: "Well Bob, thanks for asking. First I am going to wait for my number to be called. Then, I am going to get some autographs. Then I will repeat that 4 or 5 more times before flying back to NY".

I don't need a video to help me remember the moment for years to come. A simple photo speaks 1000 words (and saves me some money Smiley

It's not an ego thing any more that a photo opp or autograph is for some. It's simply another way for fans to interact and create a lasting memory of their time with a legend.

I think all these ideas are good. I'd love to be interviewed by Bob. I'd also love to cut a "hokey promo" being introduced as the newest member of the Midnight Express or something along those lines. Another idea is being the interviewer. I'd love to introduce Ivan and Nikita Koloff, only to have them rip the mic away and berate me and all the other Americans watching. Thoughts?
