PWF Night of Champions - 2/12/82

Voiceover: the following program is a special KTXL 40 Sports Presentation as we bring you a Night of Champions from Roy Shire's PWF
 
-we hear the theme from Star Wars as we head inside a packed Cow Palace as the fans are screaming  
 

 
Hank Renner: Hello and welcome to a Night of Champions as we crown a new TV Champion plus Ric Flair defends the NWA World title in a cage against Ray Stevens but right now let's go to the intro!

We hear The Chase theme as we see various action shots of Ray Stevens, George Wells, Bruno Jr, and Black Angus Campbell
 
Hank Renner: Hello wrestling fans and welcome to a big night of action as this is A Night Of Champions as we'll see Nature Boy Ric Flair defend the World Title against Crippler Ray Stevens and the International Tag Team belts will be defended by Mike Rotundo and The Destroyer against Hugo Savinovitch's mystery team plus the 8 man TV Tournament and much much more when we come back

Hank Renner: Welcome back KTXL fans as we are bringing you The Night of Champions and we'll kick things off right now as Midget Champion Sky Low Low defends his title against Little Tokyo
 
Sky Low Low vs Little Tokyo for the Midget Championship with a 15 minute time limit
Referee is Red Shoes Duggan
 
Beginning: the two little guys put on quite a show for the fans as the kids are loving it
 
Middle: Sky Low Low continues his attack on Little Tokyo with alot of fast paced maneuvers
 
End: Sky Low Low retains his Midget Championship as he rolls up Little Toko for the win @ 8:35
 
Hank Renner: well fans what a great fun match the little guys put on but the action is just getting started as let's go to comments from Bruno Sammartino Jr and El Mongol
 

 
Bruno Jr: tonight I hope to walk outta the Cow Palace as the TV Champion and prove that I am just as good as my father and yes I know it'll take alot of work to defeat El Mongol and the rest of the men in the tournament but I've been training hard and I feel I am ready
 

 
Gerhardt Kaiser: Ha Ha Ha Ha Bruno Jr you must be dreaming boy there is no way you will beat El Mongol ha ha ha ha ha ha  
 
El Mongol: Sammartino I will kill you
 
we see El Mongol has a menacing look on his face as he and Kaiser walk off camera
 
Hank Renner: well fans this is gonna be a tough one for young Bruno Jr and lets see if he can do it
 
El Mongol w/ Gerhardt Kaiser vs Bruno Sammartino Jr in round one of the TV Title tournament for a 30 minute time limit
Referee is Frank Nocetti
 
Beginning: this one is a wild brawl from the beginning as they fight all over the ring and out of it
 
Middle: El Mongol seems to have taken control as Manager Gerhardt Kaiser tosses his cane in but Bruno Jr catches it and smacks El Mongol around with it as the referee is distracted
 
End: Bruno Jr pins El Mongol to advance in the tournament @ 14:22
 
Hank Renner: Bruno Sammartino Jr did the unthinkable and beat El Mongol to advance in the TV Tournament and when we come back we'll see George Wells versus Buddy Wolff in the TV Title Tournament

Hank Renner: Welcome back to Night of Champions and lets go to the ring
 
George Wells vs Buddy Wolff w/ manager Rock Hunte in round one of the TV Title Tournament for one fall and a 20 min. time limit
Referee is Rich Frisk
 
we hear Superfly by Curtis Mayfield as George Wells comes to the ring as the fans are cheering  
 
Hank Renner: let's get comments from Buddy Wolff and manager Rock Hunter
 
Rock Hunter: the man beside me ha ha is the Beverly Hills Playboy Mr Buddy Wolff
 
Buddy Wolff: Thanks Rock and tonigt is my night and the other humanoids like Wells don't stand a chance ha ha ha ha
 
we hear You're So Vain by Carly Simon as we see Buddy Wolff walk down the aisle wearing a dark green custom made robe with the words Playboy printed on the back and a pair of designer sunglasses as Rock Hunter is seen smirking and glaring at the fans
 
Beginning: these two beat the holy heck outta each other as Wells is on fire tonight  
 
Middle: things change drastically as we see Rock Hunter destract the referee while Buddy Wolff pulls out a chain out of his pocket and chokes Wells with it and puts the chain away and rolls up Wells quickly for the win @ 12:08 as we see Rock Hunter light up a cigar  
 
Hank Renner: fans what an awful way to end that great match but we will see Buddy Wolff progress in the tournament as he goes to the semi finals and at this time we have a music video of the International Tag Team Champions The Destroyer and Mike Rotundo
 
we see a 3 minute highlight video of The Destroyer and Mike Rotundo set to Queen's We Are The Champions
 
Hank Renner: fans what a tag team they are and right now let's go to a quick commercial break

Hank Renner: welcome back to a special night here on KTXL called Night of Champions and let's go to comments from Black Angus Campbell and Pampero Firpo
 

 
Black Angus Campbell: My name is Black Angus Campbell and all my life I have worked hard to make it in the business of professional wrestling and I grew up dirt poor in Scotland and have been a fighter all my life and tonight I will defeat the competition and become the new TV Champion
 

 
Pampero Firpo: Hello San Francisco my name is Pampero Firpo and Black Angus Campbell ha ha ha I heard your little sob story and believe me puke you're going down ha ha ha
 
Black Angus Campbell vs Pampero Firpo for one fall and a 20 minute time limit and in round one one of the TV Tournament
Referee is Jack Hollingsworth
 
we hear The Green Hills of Tyrol as Black Angus Campbell walks through the curtains and down to the ring as he receives a good amount of cheers
 
Hank Renner: Black Angus Campbell extremely proud of his Scottish heritage as he is wearing a beautiful new kilt and the fans love him here in San Francisco and I am apalled at the comments from Pampero Firpo and apparently I am getting word now he has signed a contract with Rock Hunter to be his manager
 
we hear I'm Bad I'm Nationwide by ZZ Top as we see Pampero Firpo and manager Rock Hunter walk to the ring as the fans are booing Firpo after hearing his comments
 
Begnning: This one is a wild match from the start as Campbell is hot at Firpo for the disparaging comments as they brawl in and out of the ring
 
Middle: these two contnue to beat the holy hell outta each other as they are both a bloody mess
 
End: Black Angus Campbell somehow someway is able to put away Pampero Firpo for the win @ 17:04
 
Hank Renner: fans what an incredible match these two men had and it was a bloody mess and I am sure this feud is far from over but right now we gotta take a quick break and when we come back we'll hear comments from Dean Ho and Outlaw Ronnie Bass

Dean Ho:  this year marks 20 years for Dean Ho in the professional wrestling business and tonight I hope to add another title to my resume and become the TV Champion but Ron Bass I know will be tough competition
 

 
Ron Bass: Dean Ho I got all the respect for you in the world but when we lock up in the ring it will be all business and I will not be denied and I will be YOUR TV champion

Dean Ho vs Ron Bass for one fall and a 20 min. time limit in round 1 of the TV Tournament

Beginning: These two have a great match as they assualt each other with various maneuvers
 
Middle: Ron Bass gains the upperhand as he beats the holy hell outta Dean Ho  
 
End: Bass hits a running powerslam and rolls up Dean Ho for the win @ 12:52
 
Hank Renner: fans we now know who will go on to the semifinals for the TV Title as we saw Bruno Jr defeat El Mongol, Buddy Wolff defeat George Wells to advance, Black Angus Campbell defeat Pampero Firpo to advance and of course we just saw Ron Bass defeat Dean Ho to advance and at this time let's bring out promoter Roy Shire
 

 
we see Roy Shire walk down to ringside as he talks with Hank Renner
 
Roy Shire: fans in the semi finals I have randomly selected opponents for the four men and Bruno Jr will go against Black Angus Campbell and Ron Bass will face Buddy Wolff and that will happen when we come back and by the way the finale will be a No DQ match

Hank Renner: welcome back to Night of Champions here fans and right now we got Bruno Jr versus Black Angus Campbell in the semi finals for the TV Title
 
Bruno Sammartino Jr vs Black Angus Campbell for one fall and a 15 min. time limit in the semi finals of the TV Title tourny
Referee is Red Shoes Duggan
 
Beginning: Black Angus Campbell is just annihilating young Bruno Jr from pillar to post
 
Middle: Black Angus Campbell continues his assault on Bruno Jr who is busted open
 
End: Campbell wins with ease as he rolls up Bruno Jr for the win @ 11:04
 
Hank Renner: fans up next is Ron  Bass versus Buddy Wolff but first let's go to words from Hugo Savnovitch about his mystery team who'll face Mike Rotunda and The Destroyer in just a little while for the International Tag Team Championship
 

 
Hugo Savinovitch: well the days and hours are finally here in just a short while I will present my tag team who will defeat those two humanoid peabrains The Destroyer and Mike Rotundo and well let's just say things will work in our favor ha ha ha ha ha

Renner: welcome back to Night of Champions right here on KTXL and now let's go to the ring
 
Outlaw Ron Bass vs Playboy Buddy Wolff w/ manager Rock Hunter for one fall and a 30 min. time limit in the semi finals for the TV Title tournament
Referee is Frank Nocetti
 
Beginning: Bass and Wolff brawl all over the place and beat the heck outta each other
 
Middle: Bass gains the upperhand as he locks in the figure 4 leglock and we see Wolff writhing in pain and an irate Rock Hunter is screaming at him to get out of it
 
End: Bass wins via submission when Wolff can no longer handle it @ 11:51
 
Hank Renner: fans there will be no rest for Ron Bass as he must now face Black Angus Campbell and we will soon have a new TV Champion and promoter Roy Shire has made it a NO DQ match  
 
Ron Bass vs Black Angus Campbell for one fall and a 1 hour time limit for the PWF TV Championship
Referee is Rich Frisk
 
Beginning: Campbell brings down a steel chair and he and Bass take turns smacking each other around with it and we see them grab several other chairs from under the ring
 
Middle: the blood bath continues as they beat the hell outta of each other
 
End: Bass locks the Claw Hold on Campbell who is fighting it but to no avail as he tells the referee he submits and Ron Bass is declared the NEW PWF TV Champion @ 33:18
 
Hank Renner: fans do not turn the dial as we still have the International Tag Team title match between The Destroyer and Mike Rotundo versus Hugo Savinovitch's mystery team plus the Cage match between Ray Stevens and Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Title

Hank Renner: well fans the mystery is over as we are back at Night of Champions and the Savinovitch's mystery team will be revealed here and now
 
The Destroyer/Mike Rotundo vs Hugo Savinovitch's mystery team for the Int'l Tag Team Titles and a one fall 30 min. time limit
Referee is Jack Hollingsworth
 
Ring Announcer: introducing first they are the reigning and defending International Tag Team Champions..The Destroyer and Mike Rotundo
 
we hear We Are The Champions by Queen as Rotundo and Destroyer walk to the ring as the fans are cheering wildly
 
-We see Hugo Savinovitch walk out thru the curtains and stand by the entry way
 
Savinovitch: ha ha ha at long last my mystery team is here ha ha ha
 

 
we hear Back In Black by AC/DC as we see The Invaders walk through the curtain
 
Hank Renner: fans I don't believe it it is The Invaders thats who the mystery team is  
 
The Invaders and Hugo run down to the ring and the Invaders slide in the ring and it's a wild brawl as Referee Jack Hollingsworth has trouble maintaining order
 
The Invaders are putting the boots to The Destroyer and Mike Rotundo  
 

 
we see Victor Rivera sneak down and is cackling with glee
 
The Invaders who jumped the opponents have gained the upperhand as they finish off The Destroyer and Mike Rotundo and win the PWF International Tag Team belts @ 27:04
 
Hank Renner: what a miscarriage of justice fans and I am sure this won't be the last these 2 teams lock up in the squared circle well we gotta take one last break and we will have Ric Flair the NWA World Champion defending the belt in a Cage Match against Crippler Ray Stevens

Hank Renner: fans welcome back to Night of Champions and what a wild and wooly night it has been and I am sure this main event promises to be a wild one as well and apparently Pat Patterson is here in the building but what or will he do we shall see  
 

 
we see the Cage being put up  
 
Main Event: Ray Stevens vs Ric Flair for the NWA World Heavyweight Title in a Steel Cage Match with a 1 Hour Time Limit
Referee is Red Shoes Duggan
 
we hear Dirty White Boy by Foreigner as Ray Stevens strolls down to the ring and enters the cage as the fans cheer and scream
 
we then hear Also Sprach Zarathustra by Deodato as Flair struts to the ring wearing a Blue feathered robe
 
Beginning: Stevens and Flair beat each other around and toss the other off the cage
 
Middle: Flair and Stevens continue to brawl in the cage and we see Pat Patterson come down by ringside to take the match in
 
End: Flair narrowly escapes with his NWA World Title as he pins Stevens for the win @ 16:28
 
Hank Renner: fans what a tremendous event this has been and we'll see ya next month right here at the beautiful Cow Palace on KTXL Channel 40 so this Hank Renner saying so long and goodnight and see ya at the matches fans!

Real nice card here...Congrats to Bass and the Invaders...Stevens/Flair would have been a good one...Looking forward to next month at the Cow Palace...Very nice work!

I laughed too when I saw Bruno Jr. after the midget match. Seriously, good card and I am happy to see Ron Bass go all the way for the TV title.  Wink

Reading the details of how the tag titles changed would have helped. Did Rivera or Savinovitch get involved? The fans would have rioted with Hunter choking out Wells. Good heat building there. Bass and Campbell would not have been a technical classic but it was awesome for the fans to see. A classic match-up like Stevens/Flair would have been a winner.
 
Super card. You are putting your fine stamp on the PWF!

lol I totally didn't do that on purpose with regards to the Bruno Jr match being after the Midget match
 
and thanks guys for the great reviews and I'm having alot of fun with the PWF

The main event was a great one. Who couldn't love Stevens and Flair in a cage? I like Patterson coming down to scout.
 
Good night of action. Ron Bass will be a great TV Champion.
