"GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING"
TAPED: SATURDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 29, 1982 @ 10 AM
WTBS -TV STUDIOS ATLANTA, GEORGIA
BROADCAST: SATURDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 29, 1982 @ 6:05-8:05

ANNOUNCERS: JIM ROSS, RICH LANDRUM, FREDDIE MILLER
REFEREE: TOMMY WEATHERS

Ross, Landrum, and Miller welcome the fans to the show. Ross urges the fans to get their tickets for The Omni show this Sunday. The final “Best-of-7” match between Mr. Wrestling II and Masked Superstar will take place, with a shot at AWA champ Wahoo McDaniel on this program on October 13 at stake. The series is tied 3-3 and anything can happen.

Steve Regal and Spike Huber come out to the desk. Clips of both Regal and Huber being attacked by Randy Rose and Norvell Austin are shown. Neither partner was there to help and money was given to the HOH and Cowboy Ron Bass to help weaken the opponent. Huber says that, since both of them are here today, they wonder if the MX has the guts to show.

Rose and Austin come out to a shower of boos. Rose says he wants to know what’s in it for them. They will take money or a suitable replacement. Huber proposes a stipulation. He and Regal offer to wrestle them in an elimination match today. Regal points out it could be a chance for the MX to hand the “young punks” their lunch. Austin and Rose talk. Austin says they’ll take it. Landrum says that he is hearing in his earpiece that George Scott has made it the main event for the first hour.

Superstar Billy Graham will be in our first match and Ross tells the fans to stay tuned.

SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM defeats BLUE YANKEE with a tombstone piledriver @ 6:38.

After beating the masked man, Graham goes for something under the ring. It is a baseball bat, covered with a tie-dye designs. He fakes using it on The Blue Yankee and goes to talk to Miller at ringside.

Graham talks about the gang mentality that The Andersons have used to fight Superstar and Powerhouse Nick Busick. Last week, the young lion was triple-teamed because Graham was caught in homecoming traffic at GSU. Well, now, this equalizer will turn up anywhere Busick or Graham wrestle the Andersons. No more sneak attacks. Dale Murphy has given him some batting tips and he vows to hit a grand slam on an Anderson head.

Last week, the very successful duo of Kurt Von Hess and Karl Von Shotz made an appearance, attacking Sweet Brown Sugar and Sweet Ebony Diamond. They make their official debut next.

KARL VON SHOTZ w/ KURT VON HESS and SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK defeats RICKY RICKARD when Von Shotz hits Rickard with a middle rope shoulder block @ 6:42.

Humperdink leads his men to the desk and Jim Ross.

Sir Oliver says he jumped at the chance to jettison the dead weight and sign Von Hess and Von Shotz. He knows that the European wrestlers are stronger, smarter, and more brutal than any other group of wrestlers in the world. Von Hess says he and his partner proved that last week when they “obliterated the American convicts” Sugar and Diamond in front of “all the American peons”.

It seems that Von Hess may have been premature in his evaluation of Diamond, as Sweet Ebony comes out. Ebony gets in the Germans’ faces but is taken aback by Hump’s response. He says he has heard the scuttlebutt in the locker room. Diamond is the weak link in the team and “the sock” knows it. Diamond angrily starts to slap the Germans but is quickly beaten down. Von Hess applies a claw to Ebony’s throat. He starts to bleed from the mouth. Wrestlers come out from the back to break up this dangerous situation.

The camera fades to black.

MILLER TIME
HOSTED BY: FREDDIE MILLER
Miller is standing at ringside , as the segment begins. A promo takes the fans all across the College of Coastal Georgia campus, located in Brunswick, Georgia. The voiceover settles in on the campus infirmary. It says blood will be shed in the GCW taped fist tournament but it will, also, be graciously given on October 30, right here at the clinic. Give blood and receive $2.00 off on the ticket for the card later. All donations will be handled by The Red Cross.

Miller is in the ring when the show returns to the studio. He tells the fans to “be there” and give blood. Miller is joined by a lady who is very familiar to the fans at ringside. She is Ann Gunkel, the widow of popular Georgia wrestler, the late Ray Gunkel. Miller shakes her hand and announces that the taped fist tournament on October 30 will be called the Ray Gunkel Memorial Taped Fist Tournament. It will be a yearly happening in Georgia Championship Wrestling.

The fans give Ann a standing ovation. With tears in her eyes, she says she and Ray were always about giving the fans everything they could, no matter what anybody said. The fans start alternating chants of “Ann” and “Ray”. Miller says it is time to put everything aside and move on for the fans in Georgia. The chants get louder.

Mrs. Gunkel takes a belt from one of the ring attendants. She tells Miller that it was originally one of the NWA International Tag belts that Ray held with Don McIntyre. It has been re-created to represent the Gunkel Memorial. It will be presented to the winner of the tournament each year. Gunkel leaves, asking the fans to come out, give blood, and show their respect for Ray. She shakes hands with the WTBS crowd, as Ross sends the show to commercial.

Buzz Sawyer is up next. He is calmly intense, as he passes by the desk. He says it is time to take care of business. Ross tells the fans that Sweet Ebony Diamond has been taken to a local hospital to receive treatment.

BUZZ SAWYER defeats SUPER INFERNO with a powerslam @ 5:55.

When Sawyer joins Landrum at ringside, they look over highlights of a  match from last Sunday in Atlanta. Sawyer got a controversial win when the second referee counted Tom Horner out. Sawyer is adamant, when the show returns to the WTBS studio. He says everybody associated with GCW, fans included, know Tim Horner isn’t in the same league with Buzz Sawyer. Sawyer says he has taken steps to go to the next level. One of those steps is to challenge Tim Horner to a NO DQ match at The Omni. That “fool agreed”, according to Sawyer. The Mad Dog gets close to the camera. He says he will be done with Horner by this time next week. Count on it.

Ross says the main event is next.

ELIMINATION MATCH
NORVELL AUSTIN/RANDY ROSE vs. SPIKE HUBER/STEVE REGAL
Fall One: This match is intense. It goes all over the studio. Norvell Austin tries some high risk and gets little reward. He misses a diving head butt on Huber when Spike moves at the last second. Huber cradles The Junkyard Dog @ 6:12.

Fall Two: Austin gets in a very close kick out in right after the fall. It is close enough for Rose to argue with Tommy Weathers about it. Regal gets in a belly-to-back suplex from behind. It gives the faces an advantage. They wear down Rose until Austin comes back with a chair. Norvell clocks Huber and Regal, earning the blatant DQ @ 10:16 (One commercial break)

Rose stops by the desk and asks, again, if the good guys look like winners. The trademark laugh of the MX comes out.

END OF THE FIRST HOUR
“GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING”
SECOND HOUR

Ross is out at the desk. He has the Georgia Heavyweight Title holder, Rowdy Roddy Piper, with him. They look at a clip from a pair of matches from Marietta this past week. Piper comes out playing his bagpipes. It distracts Dick Slater, causing him to lose a National Title match to Masked Superstar. Piper repays him by “borrowing” the bagpipes. An angry Piper throws Mr. Wrestling II over the top rope and goes after Slater.

A huffing and puffing Piper starts in after the show returns to the studio. He says nobody puts their hands on his personal stuff. Those bagpipes of his are close to sacred. He has the kahunas to take care of anybody who messes with his pipes, including Slater. Mr. Unpredictable comes out. He says that as long as Piper wears that skirt, everybody will leave his stuff alone. Piper says something that is bleeped. Piper says that the censors will probably cut out that family reference but they won’t snip this. He sucker punches Slater. Wrestlers have to come out to separate them.

Ross says that this rivalry isn’t done but Slater has a match later with Kurt Von Hess later that he needs to worry about. The action continues right after this.

MR. WRESTLING II defeats BARRY HOROWITZ with a running knee lift @ 5:56. Wrestling II takes a couple of rib shots here and shows no ill effects.

Landrum talks with II at ringside. He says the ribs are the best they have been in a while. He knows that the Atlanta Braves are looking good this year. Well, here’s the scouting report. ‘Star is bigger but you can’t put a price value on momentum. The fans have given that to Mr. Wrestling II and, barring a natural disaster, he will be National Heavyweight champion come Sunday night at The Omni. He will face the AWA here on TV on October 13.

Landrum says that a very cocky and arrogant Paul Orndorff is next.

PAUL ORNDORFF defeats BOBO BRAZIL, JR. with a piledriver @ 6:00.

Orndorff argues with the ring announcer before the match. He wants to be referred to as “The Total Package”. He won’t do it. Paul is extra angry he takes it out on Brazil. After the match, Orndorff tries to get the Package designation again. This time, Tony Atlas comes out and backs Mr. Wonderful off. In a very raspy voice, Atlas says that the dragging at GSU wasn’t bad enough to drag “Mr. USA” out of Georgia. He will be everywhere Orndorff is. This thing is far from over.

“The Voice of Georgia” is next.

THE VOICE OF GEORGIA
HOSTED BY: RICH LANDRUM

Landrum is in one of the interview rooms at the WTBS studios. He has an empty chair next to him. He says his live guest will come out in a moment. First, though, he has two very close, personal friends on the phone line: JACK and JERRY BRISCO, THE AWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS.

Jack says that the schedule for the AWA tag champs has been unbelievable. He just doesn’t want the good fans in Georgia to forget about them. They have some title shots in Georgia scheduled for October and November and Jack says he is looking forward to renewing old acquaintances.

Jerry, being a little hotheaded, says they have a message for The Andersons who, as the National Tag Champs, are the number one challengers. He points out that he and his brother have been taking on, and coming out on top of, world class challengers from every AWA promotion. He has seen that the Andersons are being given fits by a green rookie. That isn’t happening to The Briscos. Jack calms down his brother and says they will soon be back to prove who is the dominant wrestling family.

Arn Anderson comes out and sits in the empty chair. He says that it will still be about when “green” when they beat The Briscos. Arn says that he, Ole, and Gene are willing to shed “red” to get it done. Jerry continues to talk to Landrum and refuses to acknowledge Arn is even there. Arn is seen getting redder and redder in the face. Finally, Jack says that they have to get ready for a defense against “winners”. The champs hang up on Arn, in mid-sentence. Livid, the youngster says nobody hangs up on and disses an Anderson like that. There will be heck to pay.

Landrum says the House of Humperdink entourage is next.

Cowboy Ron Bass comes out with Sir Oliver Humperdink and the HOH lawyer. Ross is given a legal document. The document has several bullet points, according to the announcer:

*A cap has been set for the fines that will be assessed to Ronnie Garvin for not returning the bullrope of Bass. It is $10,000.
*When the cap is reached, if Garvin doesn’t return the bullrope, Garvin will lose his sanction by the Georgia Athletic Commission. Ross says that amounts to a suspension.
* As long as Garvin holds the property of Bass, the judge has put an injunction on any further title defenses on TV by Bass. Ross mentions that this point affects every wrestler in the fishbowl that determines the challenger.

Bass, Humperdink, and the lawyer laugh and leave the set. Ronnie Garvin comes out to the set. He receives the cheers of the crowd. He is in ring gear and steps into the ring for a match.

RONNIE GARVIN defeats JERRY GREY with a figure four @ 7:00.

Garvin say that he has a lot to think about. The thing that concerns him the most is how keeping the bullrope has resulted in Bass not having to defend the belt on TV. That blows his mind. Garvin shakes hands with Ross and Landrum and leaves.

Ross says that Dick Slater and Kurt Von Hess tussle next.

DICK SLATER vs. KURT VON HESS w/SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK
Slater comes out in his letterman’s jacket from Robinson High School in Tampa, Florida. He gives it to the ring attendant. He ends up regretting that decision. Humperdink CONSTANTLY interferes, giving Von Hess a chance to overcome every advantage. Still, Slater knocks Humperdink from the apron and lifts the German into position for a vertical suplex. Then, ….

RODDY PIPER COMES OUT FROM THE BACK WITH THE LETTERMAN’S JACKET.

Piper takes a can of yellow paint and paints a yellow streak down the back of it. Von Hess and Humperdink hold Slater back and make him watch. Roddy paints the word “coward” across the front. Tommy Weathers calls for the DQ bell @ 9:00, giving the match to Slater.

Piper and the HOH leave. The show fades to black, with Slater cradling the jacket in his arms.
