Florida Labor Day Show- Tampa/ Rhodes v. Windham
Oct 8th, 2012, 4:12pm

Promoter's note: I'm going to have an update from September up in the next 24 hours, and am looking to have a new TV edition up for Saturday. Work has been a monster for the past 6 weeks and I want to get back on the stick here before I get too far gone.

Championship Wrestling from Florida presents:
Live Professional Wrestling – from the Homer Hesterly Armory in Tampa, Florida

Monday, September 3, 1982

-      “Hacksaw” Brett Sawyer defeats “Professor” Bill Ash after Izzy Slapowitz threw powder into his man’s eyes when Brett ducked.

-      The Killer B’s (Blair and Beefcake) and “Warlord” Jonathan Boyd and his Missing Link brawl to a double count out after 12 minutes.

-      The One Man Gang w/ King Curtis defeated Antonio Inoki with a massive 747 splash.

-      In a grudge match, Jesse Barr and Mike George defeated “Crippler” Bob Roop and “Cowboy” Bob Orton after Barr locked Orton into a spinning toe hold.

-      The Malenko Brothers defeat Black Bart and “Outlaw” Don Bass after Joe Malenko caught Bass with an inside cradle to retain the Florida
Tag Titles.

-      In a contest to determine the #1 Contender to the Southern Heavyweight Title, Jake Roberts defeated former NWA Worlds Champion
Greg Valentine after Bob Roop came out to the ring and distracted referee Jack Terry while Valentine had Roberts locked in a figure four leg lock. When Valentine broke the hold and decked Roop for good measure, it gave Jake enough time to regain his feet and he delivered a DDT to Greg out of nowhere to get the victory. Roop walked away from the ring with a sore jaw, but Valentine got a bruised ego.

-      In the finals of the Florida Heavyweight Championship Tournament, the Shining Knight defeated “the Natural” Butch Reed to win the title. The Knight, coming to the ring in his ruined mask, fought like a wild animal, pounding away on Reed, the Florida Television Champion. But Reed used his power to keep the smaller Knight out at arm’s length and it almost looked like Reed would be a double champion when he hit a flying shoulder tackle on the Knight. The cover only saw a count of 2 however and when Butch went up to the top rope for another try, the Shining Knight hit the ropes, causing Reed to lose his footing and come down in a less than comfortable position. From there the Knight slammed down Reed and delivered a golden spike, with Reed finally giving up. The crowd gave the Knight a mixed reaction until he pulled off the remains of the mask to finally show himself to be…. Kevin Sullivan! Sullivan laughed long and hard as he stared at the gleaming gold of the Florida title as he went back to the dressing rooms.

-      In the main event of the evening, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Dusty Rhodes defeated Southern Heavyweight Champion Barry Windham with a figure four. Windham tried to open the match offering to shake Dusty’s hand, only to get a finger waged in his face by the American Dream. This time, with the World Title on the line, there would be no old friendships. Windham gave it all his youth could muster, but Rhodes pulled out a few tricks from his Dirty days, pulling the hair or trunks as necessary. In the end, however, after the match, when Jake Roberts came in with the Legion of Doom and attacked Windham, it was Rhodes who came to the rescue and cleared the ring of the Warlord Boyd and the One Man Gang before helping Barry finish off Roberts and finally shaking hands with the Southern Champion to end the night.

Great Holiday show!  Rhodes/Windham would have brought in a huge crowd...Sullivan is one evil little man...Great win for Sawyer...HUGE win for OMG...Barr & George's win is a major upset in my book...Malenkos looked great....Roberts will give Windham fits...Great stuff and so good to have you back!

Very gooed card with a snazzy ME.  Looks like there is a lot of depth here, with the "second" tier given a lot of attention (Orton, Roop, George, Sawyer etc.)

Dusty may have helped Windham here but he won't be around to hold off the LOD. Great win by Roberts. Valentine will go after Roop now. I would pay money to see that. Wasn't surprised at all to see Sullivan under that mask. Barr and George with an impressive win, along with OMG going over Inoki.

Good holiday card.
