AWA Windy City Wrestling 10/2/82 A fall brawl!
Oct 9th, 2012, 8:34am

Windy City Wrestling taped 10/2/82 at WGN TV in Chicago for replay at 10am on Saturday 10/6/82 on “Chicago’s Very Own Channel 9”, WGN-TV. Hosts Roger Kent and Gene Okerlund.

The AWA World Tag Team Champions, Jack and Jerry Brisco come out and say they are looking for revenge for what USA International Tag Team Champions, Jesse Ventura and Adrian Adonis along with their manager Jerry Valiant did to Jerry in New Orleans. Jack says this is more than just a rivalry for the world tag belts, he says they are out for blood.

As the tag champions are talking out comes The Valiant Empire, tag champions, Adonis and Ventura, along with manager, Jerry Valiant, and American Television Champion Larry Zbyszko and “Uncrowned USA Champion”, Ken Patera. Valiant calls the Brisco Brothers squaws and says Jerry Brisco needs to be a real man about things.

The Brisco Brothers are ready for a fight and say they will take on all five of them if they have to. As Jack says this, Larry Hennig and Harley Race come out, and Adonis and Ventura start to back off some. Hennig says he is ready for a good scrap and points to Adonis and Ventura saying they will be the first to go down.

As the nine men mouth off and the situation starts to get out of hand, Heartland VP of Operations, Buddy Rogers comes out and persuades them to calm down. He says he wants to see, Adonis, Ventura, Patera, and Zbyszko in action as a tag team against Race, Hennig, and Jack and Jerry Brisco, here today on television.

The two teams threaten each other before heading back to the dressing room.

MATCH 1 – BRAD RHEINGANS & KEVIN KELLY def MRX1 & MRX2 in 5:46 as Gentleman Jim Holiday observed from ringside but said nothing and left as Kelly pinned X2.

Rheinigans and Kelly join Gene Okerlund at ringside. Gene congratulates them on the win. Brad says he feels he has found the perfect tag team partner in Kelly. Kelly stumbles thru the interview by says they are ready for any team in the AWA.

BREAK 1 ====================000000=======================

USA Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund comes out. He says he knows Greg Gagne wants a title shot and “probably deserves one.” But Backlund seems more focused on Ken Patera. He says the whole Valiant group has their work cut out for them today. Bob adds, Patera is going to have a very long night if “he thinks he can take this belt from me so easily!”

MATCH 2 – GREG GAGNE def MIKE FEVER in 7:22 with a missile dropkick.

Greg Gagne says he wonders what is going on with Heartland and Windy City Wrestling. He says first his Dad and his long-time associates have been fired or demoted and now it seems he is having trouble securing a television title shot against Larry Zbyszko. He says he enjoys tag team wrestling, but says, “If I am ever going to make a true name for myself, it will be as a singles champion.”

BREAK 2 ===================0000000========================

The Crusher comes out and says it’s time Manny Fernandez to put up or shut up. Fernandez comes out, belligerent as ever, and gets in Crusher’s grill. Crusher and Fernandez are standing face to face when Crusher tells Kent, it’s time to see if Fernandez is a real man “or just all bull!” Crusher then challenges Manny to a cage match on November 11th. Fernandez shuts up as Crusher says “Chew on that, ya Bum!”

As Crusher shakes his head in disgust and walks away…Fernandez pauses and then says “You’re on, old man!”

MATCH 3 – BAD BAD LEROY BROWN defeated EL TORO in 4:22.

LeRoy says he knows why Larry Zbyszko is ducking Greg Gagne. He says it’s the same reason Zbyszko is ducking him, because he says, the American Television Champion is a coward and says he smells a rat with Heartland VP of Operations Buddy Rogers. Brown says he was supposed to wrestle Zbyszko here on television this week for the TV belt, but instead Zbyszko is in a tag team match later in the show.

Brown demands to know what is going on. Rogers comes out and says next week, he will have his match with Zbyszko, but Brown will have to wait. Brown isn’t happy with this, but says next week he is going to give Zbyszko the beating of his life.

BREAK 3 ================00000===========================

Former World and International Heavyweight Champion Nick Bockwinkel comes out. Kent tells the fans that Bockwinkel’s world title match with Wahoo McDaniel is now a two of three falls match. So now the best of three series will end in a best of three match. Bockwinkel says he is not bothered by this and says he has had great success in Chicago and November 11th will be no exception.

Kent throws it to prerecorded comments from AWA World Champion Wahoo McDaniel from San Antonio. Wahoo says Chicago will be the place where the discussion of who is the better man will end. He says he knows how to beat the former champion and will do so November 11th.

MATCH 4 – DOOMSDAY: ANIMAL & KONGA w/PAUL ELLERING beat BILL WHITE & BUCK ZUMHOLFF in 4:12 when Konga pins White.

Paul Ellering comes out and says Doomsday is “The Apocalyptic Wrestling Machine!” He says all who get in their way will fall. He especially points to Steve Williams and Bobby Jaggers, Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell and Jack and Jerry Brisco.

BREAK 4=================0000========================

The Valiant Empire comes out and jaws with Kent. Zbyszko gets the most words in saying he isn’t hiding behind anyone. He says he will face LeRoy Brown and Greg Gagne anywhere. The rest of the Empire heads to the ring where, Hennig, Race, and The Briscos are waiting for them.

Zbyszko keeps talking until LeRoy Brown shows up and Larry hauls it in the ring.

MATCH 5 – Eight Man Tag Team Match:
ADRIAN ADONIS, JESSE VENTURA, KEN PATERA & LARRY ZBYSZKO w/JOHNNY VALIANT
vs.
HARLEY RACE, LARRY HENNIG, JACK BRISCO & JERRY BRISCO w/LEROY BROWN

Safe to say there was not much wrestling here as several times during the match all eight men entered the ring and started fighting each other. Jerry Valiant and LeRoy Brown mouthed off on the outside of the ring. At one point, Race clocked Zbyszko knocking him from the ring. Brown grabbed him by the hair and threatened to punch him until the referee advised him not to. Brown then lifted Zbyszko and threw him back in the ring, where he received a diving headbutt from Race.

Jerry was able to snag Ventura in the figure four, this brought Z, Adonis and Patera in the ring to break it up. To which, Jack, Race and Hennig came in and met them. Soon Johnny Valiant entered the ring and he was met by Brown.

With so much going on, the referee lost control of the match had no choice but to disqualify both teams at 7:33. The melee was still going on as the show left the air.

END OF SHOW ==================0000=====================

I'm a fan of an 8 man TT when it has been set up well, so I enjoyed the ME tremendously.

Good show.

PS Don't call Johnny Valiant "Jerry", it rattles my nerves.  Because I'm likely to do it in reverse...lol

A support of the downsized Verne and a dig at tag team partners. Double barreled shot there. Like a chance for Holiday/Kelly. Bad News has a good point. Real dug the six man.

Fine effort, as always, bud.

I really like the team of Animal and Konga. I don't know what will end up happening to Mike Hegstrand, but it'd be interesting to seem something finally deviate really far out from how things turned out IRL.
