Maple Leaf Wrestling presents
"SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING"
All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance - Vincent McMahon, President

Taped at the CHCH-TV (ch. 11) studios in Hamilton ON, Friday October
12th.  Syndicated broadcast on regional channels.

We open the show with an animated Milt Avruskin at the interview podium with Sweet Daddy Siki.

MA:  "Wrestling fans in Toronto will be thronging to Maple Leaf Gardens tonight to see Kurt Von Steiger face THIS man - it is my pleasure to welcome Sweet Daddy Siki, who is one step away from a shot at the top prize in Canadian wrestling".

SDS:  "That is abso-LUTE-ly correct my man - the NWA Canadian Heavyweight belt.  You know I wrestle anytime, anywhere but the NWA is BIG TIME, my friends!  Any other time the NWA set up shop in these parts, Sweet Daddy was NOT on the top of the in-VITE list.  But in 1982 the PEOPLE done got LISSENED TO!"

Clip plays from last show where Siki tries to make the save when the Von Steiger brothers torment Steven Little Bear

SDS:  "That there is the man I face - the man who RUNS when I done jumps in the ring - I got a pop on the other but Kurt lookin SCARED there, far as I see it".

MA:  "Indeed, but the step AFTER Von Steiger is NOT a man known for tucking his tail between his legs - GENE KINISKI".

SDS:  "Big Thundah Gene darn well mighta bin Canada's greatest atha-lete but he ain't gonna wear that belt fo' much longer, baby!"

MA:  "Fans, later in the show, we will be joined by Gene Kiniski".

Norm Kimber introduces our opening match.

Match 1 Golden Terror vs. The Wolfman
One fall 15 minutes

We start with some fun.  The masked Golden Terror is not too staunch as The Wolfman approaches the ring.  He circles the studio, grunting & growling.  Enters the ring to bounce off the ropes, then GNAWS on them.

Milt slides in with a fresh coffee for color analyst Sammy Menacker.

MA:  "I tell you, Mr. Menacker, the wrestling fans are buzzing about a return of mat action to the fabled Gardens!"

SM:  "Yes, yes, Milton - two sugars? - you did a fine interview, Milton.  I was surprised Mr. Siki was not boasting more about being a big hero for the Chief last week on "Superstars of Wrestling".

The chase of wild man & masked coward draws guffaws..

MA:  "The Wolfman IS a sight, I'm surprised he is allowed to wrestle with that heavy leather collar around his neck".

SM:  "Reminds me of a sideshow freak!  Furry boots, bits of fur on his raggedy, filthy outfit.  I think he has so much hair on his body you can call it fur as well..."

The Terror uses the collar to flip the savage around the ring.

SM:  "I know with the frigid weather, a LOT of Canadians have hairy backs...its even worse on the MEN!"

Golden Terror is tapping his temple to let the fans know who the brainy one is.  The Wolfman jumps on his back.  Big red "X" covers the action

Milt is aghast:  "The Wolfman has found the exposed area on the back of the neck & is chomping on the Terror!"

SM:  "Lovely, there are teeth marks on the man's neck, luckily he doesn't seem to have drawn blood".

After a tentative referee's warning, Wolfie clamps a bearhug on the fleeing Terror - with much flailing, we have a submission.

COMMERCIAL 1  This segment of "Superstars of Wrestling" is sponsored by Tim Horton's

We return to the ring for our next match.

Match 2 Chris Tolos vs. Mr. Florida
One fall 15 minutes

SM:  "Good to get right to some wrestling.  Did I hear correctly that "Canada's Greatest TALKER" is on again?"

Mr. Florida seems to have a lithe, athletic build under blue tights, red singlet & natty red/white/blue mask.  Brisk pace, technical style.

MA:  "Gene Kiniski was at a loss for words when Gentleman Jerry Valiant made a surprise visit last week".

Chris flummoxes his debuting opponent with a crafty pump-handle slam, leading to the three-count.  Quick shake of hands, lengthy shake of the head from the departing newcomer.

Norm Kimber has some questions for the home-town victor.

NK:  "Good match, Chris - Mr. Florida had told me he came to Maple Leaf on the chance we would be filling the Light-Heavyweight championship vacancy soon.  It crosses my mind that YOU are still trim & in great shape...might that title be of interest?"

Chris has reason to pause.

Because Jerry Valiant is BACK!

CT:  "Hey, Jerry, heard you were by last week - you didn't stop by the dressing room to see the boys".

Elicits a disdainful sniff from Gentleman Jerry.

Sam chips in.

SM:  "Jerry Valiant is an illustrious figure in the sport, but a man of few words.  My curiosity is piqued".

JV:  "No, I wasn't too impressed by who was here.  But "Whipper" Billy Watson invited me back.  Seems the ticket sales are pretty slow.  I'lve been offered a match this weekend at the Gardens.  Think you can give me a decent match?"

With THAT, he turns to leave.  Chris hails him.

CT:  "Did you think I need to toss it around before I answer, Mr. High-and-Mighty, New York big-shot?  The answer is YES".

Valiant gives a curt nod as he heads through the ropes.

MA:  "I had not heard anything negative about ticket sales but a Tolos vs. Valiant match won't hurt, Sammy".

SM:  "The fans should JUMP at the chance!  Mr. Valiant's career has taken him from a very humble beginning to the world of private jets, limousines and Rolex watches.  He is doing Maple Leaf Wrestling a HUGE favor!"

COMMERCIAL 2

VTR

Norm Kimber with a man - dark long hair & goatee.

NK:  "Fans, NOT all the great wrestlers can make it on TV every week, today I am joined by a man hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana - "Mean Mike" Miller.  Mike, you have been turning heads in matches at our live events of late".

MMM:  "Yeah, I got a call that I could git me another shot in the NWA up here, an' I'm five-and-0 since gittin' here.  Sounds like I get my TV debut nex' week".

NK:  "That is, indeed, the plan.  Now you've had a chance to deal with many of the fellows on the roster, any first impressions of note?"

MMM:  "I'm looking at this as a good opportunity up here.  It ain't the easiest thing stayin' on ANY NWA contract, but hope to stick aroun', an' I owe some 'preciation to whoever tipped the organization I was lookin' for work!"

As we return to the desk, we get some comments from the boys.

MA:  "Fans, we have had GREAT action in our first few weeks of "Superstars of Wrestling" but DO keep in mind, there are more stars that have been signed to wrestle here that have NOT yet arrived and more that are being negotiated with".

SM:  "I've heard great things about Miller but SOMEONE should offer Jerry Valiant some matches".

MA:  "A splendid idea, GENE KINISKI is headed to the ring to speak with Norm!"

SM:  "I need to...stretch my legs..."

Big Gene has the NWA Canadian Heavyweight strap in hand - he slings it over his shoulder as he takes the mic.

GK:  "I'd like to remind my fellow Canadians that in just a maatter of HOURS, we'll know WHO the number one contender is, WHO will get the first shot at challenging me.  I WON'T be able to attend the show in Toronto, but I urge my fellow Canadians to NOT miss the GREAT action coming to the Gardens.  I'll wish good luck to both Sweet Daddy Siki and Kurt Von Steiger".

NK:  "It is a shame you won't be on hand but what can you tell us about when we might expect the first title match?"

GK:  "I'd like to know myself, Norm.  Mr. Watson says he has his hands full with the Tag Team situation and is hoping THAT will be the headliner for the Maple Leaf Gardens show in NOVEMBER".

Into the ring is the returning prodigal son, JERRY VALIANT!

JV:  "NOVEMBER?  And do I understand you to say MAYBE in November?  Canada's Greatest Athlete seems to have a LOT of down time...when WAS your last NWA match, Gene?"

Again, Kiniski is speechless.  But the fans are starting to boo a little.

JV:  "Hang on, it just so happens I have a lot of respect for the belt Mr. Kiniski is holding!  I'm saying it is a disgrace to the BELT that no one is challenging Mr. Kiniski.  I'm wondering whether I should have agreed to a match with Tolos this  weekend".

Kiniski shifts the belt on his shoulders, he sees where this is headed.

GK:  "Are you saying you'd want to face me?  THAT is great to hear, the fans will agree.  BUT we are still determining a number one contender".

JV:  "So I hear...how convenient.  Well, I guess its out of Mr. Kiniski's hands, so I'll just say good luck for whenever you DO have a match".

He heads to the ropes, as he goes to step through, he retreats - hand on chin, other hand in pocket.

JV:  "I'm just thinking, Gene, there might be another way to speed things along for the Canadian fans..."

Kiniski seems interested.

GK:  "How..."
.
.
"....owwww, OWWWWW"

Valiant had something in his hand and he has sucker punched big Gene - he's on a knee looking up with blood...WHOOOPS...Big red "X" covers the action...camera swings to Valiant who grabs the mic from stunned Kimber.

JV:  "THAT'S MY WAY of setting up a number-one contender, YOU COWARD!"

He picks up the belt & places it on the back of Kiniski as he has toppled facefirst.

LUSTY BOOING

At the desk, Sam has a fresh coffee.

SM:  "Well, I'm glad I got back in time to see THAT, one of Kimber's BEST interviews!  NOW BUSINESS IS PICKING UP AROUND HERE!"

Avruskin barely able to sputter out a commercial break.

COMMERCIAL 3

The next match is being introduced.

Match 3 The Soviets (Korchenko & Markoff) vs. Joe Marcus & Black Angus Campbell
One fall 15 minutes

SM:  "An interesting team to face these commies, who again are in a foul mood!  Wild Angus Campbell, now HERE is a man who for SOME reason had been GIVEN a chance to knock Kurt Von Steiger out of the running and did NOT look good at all.  Today, he DOESN'T have an easier match at all...I don't think these Russians have wrestled a man in a skirt before..."

Before the bell there is quite the beatdown - Terry Yorkston is hard-pressed to get an orderly official start.  Off the hop, it is young Korchenko continuing to clubber Marcus.  We never get a tag at all here.  A flying lariat off the second rope by Korchenko on the already-loopy Marcus ends the mismatch.

MA:  "Sam, that move is called THE RUSSIAN HAMMER!"

SM:  "Hopefully Marcus can find his way to an X-Ray lab...they have both hammers AND sickles on their tights...I might go with the other name for that move...If we are hearing correctly about some movement towards crowning tag champions, this match WILL give the Russkis a leg up on Butcher Bond & Johnny Kincaid, THE CARIBBEAN SUNSHINE BOYS.  Those two tag teams meet in next weekl's "Superstars of Wrestling" main event".

Black Angus tries to intervene on Joe's behalf, but Markoff cuts him off while Korchenko gains the pin.

Marcus is thrown over the top hard, Campbell frees himself to go to his aid.  After we hear the official decision, Chris Markoff demands Kimber pass the mic out.

Markoff is the mouthpiece.

CM:  "You Black Angus are not grade A beef, you are good for shoe leather!  You show up from England with a tag team, where are they HIDING!  The Maple Leaf tag titles are OPEN, there needs to be ACTION, NOT sitting on fence on fat capitalist BE-hinds..."

Interruption of Calypso music.  Butcher Bond and Johnny Kincaid are at the announce desk.

JK:  "Hang on, mon, we're over this way.  We wanted to say a thank you to Toronto's Caribbean community for welcoming the Butcher and me - they even took a liking to our friend Black Angus!  So, you big men were looking for us?  I suppose you think we are afraid of you, that we might just disappear and make it EASY for the likes of you to win the tag titles?"

CM:  "The Soviets winning the tag titles is something YOU TWO can't do anything about...NOBODY can do anything about it!  The question is not WHO but WHEN!"

JK:  "And I can answer those questions AND the WHERE!  We just arranged with the top mon here...the WHO is US and YOU, the WHEN and WHERE is on TV next week!   Hey hey now, don't get all wound up about it, we COULD do it NOW but our friend Mr. Campbell might make it three on two and Mr. Marcus there might not be a big fan of you loudmouths either.  So keep your shirts on & we'll do things fair and square next week".

Steaming Soviets depart with the crowd hooting away.

SM:  "If you thought that The Soviets were crab-apples, let's see who is in the ring with Norm Kimber after the break!"

COMMERCIAL 4

As we return, Norm gives fans in Waterloo, St. Catharine's & Guelph a heads up that Maple Leaf Wrestling is headed their way this week.

Norm is joined by Killer Kowalski, Baron Mikel Scicluna and Killer Joe Nova.  Scicluna is flouncing around in the trademark cape.

KK:  "I WILL ADMIT, we can take part of the blame for NOT making strides right away in getting "Canada's Biggest MOUTH" 's title, but we will wait for the dust to settle between Kiniski, Siki and Von Steiger!  AND The Baron insisted he come here today to shake Killer Joe Nova's hand to PROVE there are no hard feelings about The Baron's disqualification!"

Big handshake & hug production by Scicluna - a final backslap & a handshake for Kowalski as he takes his leave.

KK:  "THERE, that proves I run a tight ship and with men like Baron Mikel and Killer Joe Nova, add MY NAME to the list of those who are wondering when Mr. Watson will make some DECISIONS around here!"

Match 4 Killer Joe Nova vs. Gilles Poisson
One fall 15 minutes

MA:  "My apologies to Killer Kowalski, I thought he was going to be MUCH more unpleasant".

SM:  "Well Kowalski has one of those faces...and voices.  But he made the point that IS seeming to be the theme song around here - WHEN do we crown a tag team as NWA Canadian champs?"

MA:  "I've taken a look at those beautiful belts, Mr. Menacker - the formal title is the NWA Canadian International Tag Team championships, and it appears VERY likely we'll have some international flavor with men from the US, Germany, Russia, Jamaica..."

SM:  "Did you mention the Congo?"

Killer Joe Nova has finished battering Poisson in what started as a close contest.  Big scoopslam for the finish.

MA:  "Gilles Poisson put up quite a battle but the bigger man from Texas is a fearsome brawler to say the least".

COMMERCIAL 5

Maple Leaf Wrestling Commissioner "Whipper" Billy Watson has joined the announce desk team.

WBW:  "We are not quite ready to make any FORMAL announcement, fans, but besides the Main Event on next week's show, we'll also see The Bounty Hunters in tag action....AND I hope that we can start a tournament the following week!  We do have some teams in place and some other wrestlers are looking to find partners as well.  As Gene Kiniski mentioned, the Main Event in November at Maple Leaf Grdens is tentatively set to crown the NWA Canadian Tag Champions".

MA:  "That souns like a great way to follow up THIS weekend's return to the Gardens, Mr. Commissioner".

SM:  "We saw a pretty bold challenge to the pretender to the NWA Canadian throne, when Jerry Valiant made a statement to Gene Kiniski!  I do believe the fans will be interested in seeing when or IF we can look forward to THAT match!"

WBW:  "That is another very high priority, Mr. Menacker!"

We wrap up with an interview.

VTR

At ringside, Norm Kimber is standing with "Downtown" Denny Brown.

NK:  "A young man who is opening a lot of eyes with his exciting style is Denny Brown.  Denny, you DON'T have many others here in Maple Leaf in your weight division..."

DB:  "Not yet, but I hear there are still guys making their way up here.  And, I've seen that there is a belt for the NWA Canadian Light Heavyweight championship and I've been told by the Commissioner it WILL be decided later...right now, EVERYbody here is thinking TAG TEAMS, so I may go THAT route to stay ready!"

NK:  "Welcome to Canada, Denny and the best of luck!"

END VTR

Milt tasked with getting us to the credits.

MA:  "Denny Brown may be a front runner for the NWA Canadian Light Heavyweight Title, ANOTHER belt that hopefully will be awarded soon".

Slamming Sammy pitches in.

SM:  "Maybe we saw Jerry Valiant lighting a fire under our DISPUTED Heavyweight champ today.  If you missed it, a match between Mr. Valiant & Chris Tolos has been added to the card this weekend!"

MA:  "And we can confirm that Commissioner "Whipper" Billy Watson will make an announcement on next week's show - don't forget, the Main Event sees The Soviets take on the newcomers, The Caribbean Sunshine Boys!  We'll see you then!"

Results
The Wolfman submits The Golden Terror
Chris Tolos pins Mr. Florida
The Soviets def. Black Angus Campbell & Joe Marcus
Killer Joe Nova w/ Killer Kowalski pins Gilles Posson

Another fine TV!  Love the way you are setting up for Champs to be crowned...The coffee deal was hilarious...Valiant vs Kiniski is going to be good, nice way for Jerry to convince Gene...The Soviets looked good here...As usual, great dialogue...Great work!

You have taken Chris Tolos, Jerry Valiant, Kurt Von Steiger, Sweet Daddy Siki and meshed them into a very entertaining show. Your dialogue is very serious and it has fleshed out the characters.

Valiant taking the shot on Kiniski almost makes Gene the sympathetic babyface. I enjoyed The Russians going around with Black Angus. i like the Killer Joe Nova personna.

Great job, Brent.
