AWA Mid-South Championship Wrestling Taped Friday, Oct. 12 1982 (aired 10-13-82) at the Irish McNeil Boy's Club in Sherveport, La. The show opens with video highlights from last week's controversial AWA Mid-South Tag Team Title Match between then champs 'Dirty" Dick Murdoch & 'Killer" Karl Kox and challengers the Masked Spoiler 1# (Don Jardine) & 'Manica' Mark Lewis with mgr. 'Playboy' Gary Hart. Spoiler & Lewis won the belts when Kox & Murdoch were attacked on their way to the ring by ex-champs Abdullan the Butcher & The Shiek with surprise manager Rock Hunter. The disabled Kox and bloodied Murdoch who refused help and went on to wrestle and lose the match. Today's show opens with a shot of the letters AWA followed by Mid-South Championship Wrestling with action clips of Mid-South stars as new North American Heavyweight Champ the Masked El Canek, the Mid-South Tag Team Champs The Spoiler & 'Maniac' Mark Lewis w/mgr. 'Playboy' Gary Hart, Louisiana Heavyweight Champ Junkyard Dog, 'Dirty' Dick Murdoch & "Killer" Karl Kox, Mid-South Jr. H. Champ Tony Charles, Louisiana Tag Team Champs Ken Lucas & Ricky Gibson, Mr. Wrestling, The Los Infernales w.mgr. Percy Pringle III, The Assassins (Jody Hamilton & Roger Smith) w/mgr. Rock Hunter and AWA World Champs Chief Wahoo McDaniel, tag team champs the Brisco Brothers and jr. champ Tiger Mask before the Mid-South logo hits the screen as we fade to the studio desk with the announcing team of "Cowboy" Bill Watts and Boyd Pierce. Bill & Boyd welcome the fans for another hour of AWA Mid-South Championship Wrestling. Boyd reminds the fans that new North American Heavyweight Champ El Canek puts the title up today against former champ the Assassin 1# (Jody Hamilton) w/mgr. Rock Hunter in the first match of the card with all other matches as stand bys. Before they go to the ring for the match, Bill sasy they are hoping to have a reply from AWA Presidetn Verne Gagne on today's show about the tag team situation from last week. Watts goes ringside and questions manger Rock Hunter about his association with Abdullah the Butcher & The Shiek last week. Bill reminds Rock that they did not have a manager with them when they won the belts or since then, until last week. Watts wants to know what is going on. Assassin 1# with Assassin 2# tells Bill to mind his own businesses. Then before rerturning to the ring for his next match, Assassin 1# says I wonder where you were, Mr. Hunter, Wednesday night in Jackson Miss. when Canek stole the belt from me. Where were you. Hunter looks uncoomfortable and tells him he will tell hin back in the dressing room. It involes a lot of money. 1. First Match. North American Heavyweright Championship Match. TV Time Limit. (Champ): El Canek beats (Chall): Assassin 1# (Jody Hamilton) w/mgr. Rock Hunter. Ten minutes into match we break for commercial with cameras rolling. (10:00). Commercial break includes interciews for local cards (Continues): North American Heavyweright Championship Match. Champ El Canek gets his shoulder on the 3 count while the Assassin's remains on the mat. The challenger thinks he has won but referee Frankie Cain says no and awards the match to the champ on the double pin. Hunter is unhappy and they go after Canek who slides under the riope with his belt to the high fives from the fans. And the Assassin 1# is steaming in the ring. Commercial break includes interciews for local cards 2, First Stand By Match. Single Match. Louisiana Heavyweight Champ Junkyard Dog lost by count out to Tom Jones at the 8:12 mark. At the start of the match, AWA World's Heavyweight Champ Wahoo McDaniel makes an unexpected appearance at the desk with Watts and Pierce and wants to provide commentary on the Dogs match. Immediately McDaniel attacks the Dogs style (he can't wrestle) and his physical stamana. Bill disagrees with Wahoo who says Watts can't be impartial anyway. JYD sees him and realizes what the champ is saying about him. He leaves the ring despite the efforts of Jones and ring offical Alfred Neely and confronts Wahoo. Bill steps between them as we go to break. Commercial break includes interviews for local cards Before the start of the next match, Reiser Bowden is ringside with 'Playboy' Gary Hart and the Mid-South Tag Team Champs the Spoiler (Don Jardine) & 'Maniac' Mark Lewin. who are waiting for the decision from Verne Gagne. Watts joins them and reads the decision from Gagne and the AWA Board. Despite the sneak attack on the tag champions, Murdoch refused a replacement partner and was pinned legally by the Spoiler in the loss. Hhowever, the AWA is open to the theory that Abdullah the Butcher & The Shiek were offered montary incentive by maybe Rock Hunter or another interested party who wanted Murdoch & Kox to loose the belts..If any evidence can be produced we will take stronger action on this situation. Hart is happy with the right decision. Watts is not. Bill tells Gary he is going to get to the bottom of this and find out if Rock Hunter was in co-hoots with Hart. 3. Second Stand By Match. Four Man Tag Team Match. 1-fall 10-minute time limit. The Rogeau Brothers (Raymond & Jacques) knock off the Invaders at the 7:11 mark when Jacques covers Invader 2# following a double dropkick by the btothers). Commercial break includes interviews for local cards 4. Third Stand By Match.1-fall 10-minute time limit. Akira Maeda time limit draw with Otto Wanz. Commercial break includes interviews for local cards Back at the desk, Bill and Boyd review today's matches and remind the fans to tune in next week for more AWA Mid-South Championship Wrestling. They end the show with highlights from Sept. 23 in Oklahoma City with Japan legends Baba the Giant & Antonio Inoki defeating the Manchurians managed by Percy Pringle III.
