" GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING" TAPED: SATURDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 13, 1982 @ 10 AM WTBS -TV STUDIOS ATLANTA, GEORGIA BROADCAST: SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 13, 1982 @ 6:05-8:05 ANNOUNCERS: JIM ROSS, RICH LANDRUM, FREDDIE MILLER REFEREE: NICK PATRICK Ross and Landrum welcome the fans to the show. Rich says that, due to two championship matches being on today’s program, Miller Time and The Voice of Georgia will not be conducted today. Jim sends the match up to the ring, where The AWA World Heavyweight Champion and his challenger await. Ross says Masked Superstar has the chance of a lifetime here, since he beat Mr. Wrestling II in a “Best-of-Seven” series. AWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP WAHOO MCDANIEL © vs. MASKED SUPERSTAR Both men come out with all cylinders firing. Wahoo takes advantage of ‘Star missing a middle rope leg drop at about the 9-minute mark. Wahoo pulls himself up while his challenger crawls over to the rope. Mad Dog Buzz Sawyer comes out and loads up the mask. Nick Patrick sends the “insurance policy” to the back, as Ross sends the program to the first commercial set. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . When the show returns, Wahoo is sending MS into the ropes with an Irish whip. He tries for a flying chop. His head collides with Superstar’s. McDaniel is busted open and the National Heavyweight smells blood in the water. He pounds away at the cut but, also, hurts the champ’s neck and shoulders. The momentum shifts between champ and challenger but the blood loss looks to be too big a mountain to climb. Superstar has his cobra clutch locked on tight. Patrick goes in to check on Wahoo and, twice, he raises his hand. The fans in the WTBS studio rally him and McDaniel manages to drive Masked Superstar into the corner. They crash heads, and Landrum sends the show to the second break. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . Patrick is counting on both prone men, as the program continues. Wahoo crawls to the ropes and lies across the bottom one. Sawyer has taped his fists, comes out, and sets to clobber McDaniel. Mad Dog is stopped by Mr. Wrestling II. They fight to the back. Superstar is distracted and doesn’t see Wahoo come in from behind. The Native American lands a picture perfect butterfly suplex. Wahoo makes the cover @ 18:00 (two commercial breaks). Superstar slides out and is helped to the back by Sawyer, who is back out, even though he looks worse for wear himself. II comes out to raise the hand of his friend, McDaniel. Ross says the stand-by matches will begin in just a moment. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . EL GRAN APOLLO defeats CHARLIE COOK with a running shoulder breaker @ 4:00. After the match, Randy Rose and Norvell Austin come to the desk, dressed as B.B. King and Elvis Pressley. Apollo passes in front of the desk. In an Elvis voice, Rose shouts at Apollo “No Thank You Very Much”. Austin tells his partner to forget it. He probably doesn’t know enough English to say I’m sorry. Somebody in the crowd laughs and Apollo turns back around. Putting all that aside, Rose says he and Norvell were ready to sing some “R & B”, that’s Regal and Bobo, out here today. They decided against it, though, since Steve and Junior were sad enough, as it is. The Midnight Express has put them on the sidelines for a while. Austin tells Bobo Brazil, Sr. to give it up. This is a young man’s game and he doesn’t have enough gas left in the tank. Ross says that Senior will be out here next. Rose says they will be “leaving the building” and they will find out how things went down later. Landrum tells the fans to stay tuned. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . BOBO BRAZIL, SR defeats THE OUTLAW with a coco butt @ 5:35. Brazil meets Landrum at ringside. Brazil shakes hands with Rich and tells him it is good to see him again. Landrum says he wishes it were under different circumstances. Brazil says that he knows Spike Huber from watching him as he was starting out in the Midwest. Brazil says he even had a hand in Huber’s training. He has come a long way. His son may not have a chance to anything in Georgia for a while, however. His eye was injured in last week’s match with Randy Rose. The pounding they eye took has done some damage that will need rest to get over. He says he won’t take Steve Regal’s spot permanently but, for the time being, he will team with Huber to get some family revenge. Ross says he saw Roberto Soto and Sweet Brown Sugar earlier and they were in pretty dire straits. The young lions will be out here next. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . SWEET BROWN SUGAR/ROBERT SOTO defeat KILLER KARL KRUPP/ MIKE BOYETTE when Sugar brainbusts Boyette @ 4:44. Sugar is wearing a large brace on his right elbow. Soto is sporting a butterfly bandage on his forehead. Ross asks what happened to the two of them. Sugar says he and Soto stayed behind to sign autographs for the fans in Atlanta last Sunday night after the Omni matches. Their car was blocked from leaving the lot by another vehicle. Kurt Von Hess and Karl Von Shotz got out, with Humperdink, and beat them with billy clubs. Soto says those strong arm tactics may have worked in different places and at different times. Not in America! Not now! No way! Sugar puts out a challenge for the Germans to meet him and Soto straight on. It is time for those days to be forgotten. They will beat a memory lapse into them. The first hour ends with two promos shot in two different interview rooms. One has Roddy Piper dressed in full Scottish garb, complete with bagpipes. He says that his culture is no laughing matter. It is a kilt and not a dress. No one desecrates his bagpipes! No One! My heritage is not a joke. I vow to put Dick Slater out of this sport for his inexcusable disrespect. The other promo has Dick Slater holding his “Coward” painted letterman’s jacket. He says that his heart was ripped out when the yellow streak and “this word” was painted on his jacket by that scumbag Piper. He will take Piper’s heart out of his chest, as replacement. . . END OF FIRST HOUR. . “GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING” SECOND HOUR Ross and Landrum go over highlights of the Wahoo-Superstar AWA Heavyweight Title match from the first hour. Masked Superstar comes to the desk and says that he has more shots against McDaniel coming up and Wrestling II can’t be at all of them. He isn’t going to be able to take his eyes off of Buzz Sawyer. II comes out and agrees that he will be taking care of Sawyer. But, along with Wahoo, somebody else wants a chance at “that sorry attitude your mask has come to represent” A highlight package of Mil Mascaras is shown. When the show comes back to the desk, Ross says Mr. Superstar has taken his leave. Landrum says stay tuned. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . Jack and Jerry Brisco are sitting in an interview room at WGN-Chicago. They are talking to Gene Okerlund. Jack says they are just like the Andersons when it comes down to it. It all comes down to wrestling. They wrestle to prove their AWA World belts. Ole and Arn wrestle to prove the National tag team belts. Jerry inserts the thought that they use the figure four to get a submission just like the Andersons use the step-over arm bar. Something will give this week in Rome, Georgia. Ole yells at Ross from the ring. He says that the Briscos are very different from any Anderson in one important way. He will tell him what it is after “he takes out the trash”. OLE/ARN ANDERSON w/GENE ANDERSON defeat THE SUPER INFERNO/NICK DECARLO when Arn submits DeCarlo with the step-over arm bar @ 8:36. Ole, Arn, and Gene meet Landrum at ringside. Arn and Gene stand in the background, while Ole takes point. Submission to an Anderson is different from submission to a Brisco in this way. When a Brisco hears “I quit”, they release the hold. When an Anderson hears “it’s broken”, they keep it on some more. Something will give in Rome, touts Arn. It will be the Brisco’s ability to stand or hold a loved one. Ross says that The Dream Machine and Sir Oliver Humperdink, having disposed of Buzz Tyler, now have Nick Busick squarely in their sights. The House is in the yard, next. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . THE DREAM MACHINE w/SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK defeats TED PETTY with a vertical suplex @ 7:47. Sir Oliver Humperdink and Dream continue the improv theme of tonight’s show. Humperdink pretends to be Andy Griffith and the masked man is Otis Campbell. When “Andy” asks “Otis” why he got drunk last night, “Otis’ says he saw Nick Busick pretending to be a “good ol’ boy” and it sent him looking for a still. Dream Machine says you can join all the Georgia police departments you want, Busick, but you are a “true blue Yankee” that we know how to deal with down here. Humperdink tells Powerhouse “You can take that “Barney bullet” you call a heart punch and put it back in your pocket”. Both men hum the show theme, as they leave. Ross says it will be no “surprise, surprise, surprise” when Nick Busick unloads a “bottle of pop” on the Dream Machine and SOH. The Total Package is next. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . “THE TOTAL PACKAGE’ PAUL ORNDORFF defeats WILDMAN MCKIGNEY with a swinging neckbreaker @ 8:00. Orndorff comes down to talk with Ross. He is unbelievably arrogant, saying he possesses every weapon in the pro wrestling arsenal. He has so much ammo in his arms that he calls the swinging neckbreaker, his new finisher, “The Gun Show”. Orndorff says he knows Tony Atlas can’t talk, thanks to the “trip down the yellow rope road” he gave him. He hopes he can hear this. He will talk slowly so he can understand it. His career highlight will be “making that pencil neck go snap, crackle, and pop.” The main event, the last National TV title shot for Ronnie Garvin, is next. . . COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMOS . . NATIONAL TELEVISION TITLE RONNIE GARVIN w/SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM vs. COWBOY RON BASS © w/SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK Graham is out to counteract Humperdink. Late, Garvin looks ready to take the strap. He pushes Bass into the turnbuckles and throws the knock-out punch. It is close enough for Patrick to rule it a forearm smash. Humperdink is on the apron. Graham pulls him down. Patrick turns his attention to the floor action. He doesn’t see….. EL GRAN APOLLO COME OUT. The big man from Cuba hits Garvin with a nasty lariat that turns the Hands of Stone a complete flip. Apollo pulls Bass over, drapes his arm over Garvin, and slides under the bottom rope. Patrick turns and has no choice. He counts Ronnie Garvin out @ 9:04. Cowboy Ron Bass keeps the National Television Title. Ronnie Garvin gets no more title shots. And, smiling as he goes out, El Gran Apollo gets the last laugh. As the credits roll, a voice over by Freddie Miller says that the brackets for the Gunkel Memorial will be unveiled next week. © GCW @ NWACLASSICS 1982
