AWA Heartland, Windy City, Las Vegas Update 10/9
Oct 16th, 2012, 8:59am

Highlights from Heartland, Windy City and Las Vegas International Wrestling as well as Milwaukee 10/6.

AWA Heartland Wrestling
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The MECCA
Saturday October 6, 1982 Bell 7pm

In the main event, Harley Race and Larry Hennig, former AWA World Tag Team Champions, challenged Jesse Ventura and Adrian Adonis w/ Jerry Valiant for the USA International Tag Team Titles.
The match started with Race and Hennig slowly taking Adonis apart, working on his right arm. Try as they could, Adonis and Ventura could not outwrestle the veteran tag team who looked as though they haven’t missed a step despite not teaming for many years.

When Ventura started brawling with Race, the action picked up and the crowd soon got on the edge of their seats. Wrestling went out the window as the match became a smash mouth event, with both teams brawling excessively.  Soon, Adonis and Ventura were both bleeding.

Towards the end of the match, all four men were in the ring brawling, after Race broke up a double team on Henning. Henning angrily grabbed Adonis and started pounding him in the corner.  When the referee tried to break them up, Hennig clobbered him sending him out of the ring and onto the floor. Larry then grabbed Adrian and the two ended up on the floor themselves.

In the ring, Race had Ventura in trouble. Valiant tried to enter the ring and Race slammed the manager headfirst into the turnbuckles. As the badly bleeding Ventura tried to get up Race snared him in a piledriver.

Race covered Jesse for the pin, but there was no referee to make the call. Race then piledrove Ventura again and made the cover a second time as Jesse laid there having all the time in the world to bleed.

The referee finally got to the ring, while Adonis and Hennig  were fighting nearby, and called for the bell. He explained the Henning and Race team had been disqualified at 24:19. Henning cracks Adonis over the head with a chair and punches Valiant as he gets into the ring to join his partner. Race and Henning are standing over a bloody Ventura as the two look at each other, shake their heads, then leaves the ring.

In other bouts…  The Crusher beat Manny Fernandez in a Milwaukee Street Fight in 20:12

Larry Zbyszko was scheduled to defend his American Television Title against Bad Bad LeRoy Brown, but brought out Heartland VP of Operations Buddy Rogers and showed him a doctor’s note stating he isn’t able to wrestle today.  Brown cannot believe what Zbyszko is trying to pull. Rogers looks at the note and says he knows the doctor who has signed off on it and gives Zbyszko a pass.  Zbyszko says his left big toe is seriously inflamed. Brown is livid as Rogers reassures him, he will have a shot against Zbyszko in the future. He says in Chicago on November 11th he will show why he is the greatest wrestler who ever lived. Ken Patera comes out with Johnny Valiant and USA International Tag Team Champions, Adrian Adonis and Jesse Ventura. Patera brags about having already beaten Backlund in a nontitle match, and says November 11th he will finish the job for the belt. Adonis calls the idea of The Briscos or The Strongbows or any of them beating him and Ventura, delusional. Ventura says “Jerk and Junky Brisco, Chief Jay Bull Feathers his brother, Running  Duck, or even Squaw-hoo McDaniel" are no match for them. Valiant adds “it’ll be like Custer going through Little Big Horn all over again!” This causes the tag champions to look at them manager with a puzzled look as the show goes to break.

Manny Fernandez comes out and issues a challenge to International Heavyweight Champion, Jerry “The King” Lawler. Manny says he wants a title shot. He then switches gears and says he is to try stand-up comedy in Vegas. He starts his routine by telling Andre the Giant jokes that looked to be written on a napkin. “Andre the Giant is so dumb, he got hit by a parked car!” “Andre the Giant’s fans are so stupid, it takes them an hour to cook minute rice”. Fernandez cracks himself up while Gene says “I can feel the sponsors dropping like flies, we’ll all be looking for work on The Strip next week!”

Then Andre the Giant shows up as Fernandez looks stunned by his appearance. Andre says he doesn’t care what Manny says about him but “you keep your mouth off my fans!” The fans cheer. Then Andre has a joke for Fernandez, “What’s round, has hair and gets squished in my hands?”

Fernandez doesn’t answer, but Gene plays along, “I dunno Andre, what is round, has hair and gets squished in your hands?”

Manny starts backing off as Andre smiles and yells, “YOUR HEAD, FERNANDEZ! HAHAHAHA!”

=

International Heavyweight Champion Jerry Lawler come out holding his belt and says it has been a challenge holding the International Title but is ready for the next step up, Wahoo McDaniel’s World Heavyweight Title. He says, he had Wahoo beat in Memphis, he says this time on October 21st he will beat Wahoo at the Dunes Hotel and Oasis Casino.

AWA World Champion Wahoo McDaniel says, via VTR, Lawler has no chance at beating him for the belt. He says Lawler is living proof that even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and again and that is what happened in Memphis.  He says lightening will not strike twice and it’s time for Lawler to take his “little crown and little skills and go back to Tennessee!”
=

Jesse Ventura and Adrian Adonis, USA International Tag Team Champions,  with manager Johnny Valiant, come out and talk about how they will “easily” beat The Brisco Brothers for the world tag team titles. This brings out Jack and Jerry Brisco. Jerry challenges Ventura to a match one on one. Jerry finally gets under Adonis, Ventura and Valiant’s skin enough that Jesse accepts.

Jesse and Brisco had a see-saw match, but as Brisco clamped on the figure four, Adonis rushed the ring and attacked. Jack who was doing commentary at ringside jumped in to help his brother. When Valiant jumped in to help Adonis and Ventura it became 3 on 2. The Brothers defied the odds and eventually chased the champs to the dressing room.

=

Kevin Kelly and Brad Rheingans were interviewed following a victory over the masked Sundance Warriors 1 and 2. As they were talking to Okerlund, Jimmy Holiday came out and congratulated them on their win, then walked off.

=

Blackjack Lanza was facing the tough challenge of Billy Anderson when he was attacked by Austin Idol. Idol and Anderson double teamed Lanza for a few minutes until Lanza was able to throw Anderson over the top rope. Idol went outside the ring and grabbed a rope with a lasso. He tried to lasso Lanza, but the Blackjack caught the rope and pulled it to him, sending Idol right into the clawhold. Other wrestlers from the back came out to pull Lanza off of him.

=

Sheik Adnan comes out by himself. Gene Okerlund asks what will he do now that Sheik Hussein has left following an injury at the hands of Bruiser Brody. Adnan says Brody will pay for his actions. He tells Gene not to worry he has the situation under control.

Bruiser Brody’s “HOOT HOOT HOOT” are heard throughout the studio as the wild man rushes in and attacks Adnan. As the fans cheer, Brody throws Adnan into the ring and starts to pummel him.

Then Brody is attacked by The Sheik and Abdullah the Butcher. The three men pound away on Brody using  foreign objects and busting him open. A big RED X covers the screen as the men pound away on Bruiser.  The show goes off the air with the men finally being chased from the ring by wrestlers from the back.

From top to bottom the MECCA card rocked!

HCW
-Great debut for Horner
-Valiant's Empire are boasting, but they have some very stiff competition to overcome
-Brown & Backlund had great retorts to Valiant's men
-Manny taking money from Adnan is scary
-Nicky may just become a three time AWA World Champion
-My money is on Doomsday

WCCW
-Briscos/East-West Connection is getting intense
-Crusher & Manny in a cage is going to be brutal
-Larry & Rogers in cahoots?  Smells fishy
-So digging the Bock/Wahoo feud
-Great interviews to build for the 11th

LVICW
-Mil would be wildly cheered in Vegas
-Manny has his hands full with Andre, Crusher, and Lawler
-Lawler may have Bock's number in Vegas
-Great match between Jerry and Ventura
-Adnan has the numbers, but Brody is one tough customer

Excellent work my friend!

Milwaukee-
What else do Hennig and Race have to do. Crusher has to be almost unbeatable in a street fight. Gagne will really think he is ready for a singles push after beating Larry Z. Lanza and his boys going against Ellering and his goons could really be exciting. An inflamed big toe? Larry Z was a wuss there. Adnan better have one heck of a partner. Boy, the attitude between Gagne and Backlund is really tense. Somebody is going to blow and soon.

Great shows. Good combo of re-caps and matches. As usual, exceptional.

Interesting presentation of many courses.  The Milwaukee show was the way to lead - a LOT flowed from it & as said, Rece / Hennig vs. Adonis / Ventura would have brought the house down.

A lot of continuity, but the rest was seasoned by some GREAT insertions.  The stuff with Brody, Andre, Mascaras etc. was like new dishes geing brought out to the buffet and VERY tantalizing.

Good stuff, could you tell I read this at feeding time?
