GCW TV 10/20/82 BRISCOS VS. ANDERSONS
Oct 20th, 2012, 7:57pm

" GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING"
TAPED: SATURDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 20, 1982 @ 10 AM
WTBS -TV STUDIOS ATLANTA, GEORGIA
BROADCAST: SATURDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 20, 1982 @ 6:05-8:05

ANNOUNCERS: JIM ROSS, RICH LANDRUM, FREDDIE MILLER
REFEREE: TOMMY WEATHERS

Sir Oliver Humperdink comes out to the desk and is visibly angry. He says he heard Sweet Brown Sugar and Roberto Soto come out here last week and talked about the old German ways not working here in America now. Well, how do the two of them justify pressing charges against Kurt Von Hess and Karl Von Shotz? Ross shows him the clip from last week of Sugar and Soto  telling them how they were attacked by The Germans after a match in Atlanta.  Hump says if there is a problem, take care of it physically like his German champions always do. Don't let the justice system do it for you. No one from a foreign country should have to endure a night in "a southern American jail". Hump's lawyers got Von Hess and Von Shotz out because it was "their word against ours". He says his men want retribution in a match here today. Humperdink demands that George Scott make it so.

Ross says that match will be one to watch should it come to pass. In any event, Jack and Jerry Brisco make a rare appearance and we have the brackets for the Ray Gunkel Memorial Taped Fist Tournament. Don't go away. The action starts in two and two.

SPIKE HUBER w/BOBO BRAZIL defeats BLACK MARVEL with a missile dropkick @ 6:39.

Huber is met by Bobo Brazil and Rich Landrum at ringside. They talk about the vengeful rivalry between them and The Midnight Express. Huber says Steve Regal is progressing nicely and should be back soon. Brazil takes the mike when
the two wrestlers are blindsided by Randy Rose and Norvell Austin. The two attackers slam Huber and Brazil.....with coconuts. Austin says that Brazil has hit them with his coco butt and, now, it is time for "hitting with coconuts". Landrum and the fans show that joke isn't funny. Brazil looks to be getting up when Austin slams him again. Rose says "like father like son". Wrestlers from the back clear the ring.

The camera fades to black, as Ross and Landrum check on Brazil and Huber.

POWERHOUSE NICK BUSICK defeats JODY ARNOLD with a heat punch @ 7:23.

Busick talks with Ross and Landrum at the desk. He says he has enjoyed working with Superstar Billy Graham. The knowledge about every aspect of this business that he has gotten from Billy has been invaluable, according to Powerhouse. He is also enjoying venturing out on his own, with the equalizer for his lack of experience being his heart punch. Busick says it will allow him to stand toe-to-toe with the "bullies of pro wrestling" like The Dream Machine. Ross predicts "big things" for Busick in the future.

Landrum says "Miller Time" is next.

MILLER TIME
HOSTED BY: FREDDIE MILLER

Miller has the massive El Gran Apollo in the ring, along with his manager(?), Sir Oliver Humperdink. The rotund manager says that all the "smart minds" in wrestling have known what a jewel Apollo is for a long time. He is the perfect combination of power, speed, and youth. He was made into a fan favorite. Still, the title shots didn't come. Why? the answer is simple. The worls is full of bullies that take advantage of the sutuation.

A couple of film clips show some fans at the WTBS studios laughing at the fact of Apollo can't speak English. Sir Oliver says the promoters couldn't have their "star" unable to speak to all those "morons". So, his ability was kept under a glass ceiling. Humperdink says he saw Apollo fuming in the parking lot and said something encouraging to him in Spanish. Yes, Ross, Humperdink says, I am a man of letters. Humperdink continues, saying that Apollo came to him and asked if he would be his "messenger of destruction" for the "real start of his wrestling career'. Hump says to Ron Garvin "that it was nothing personal". He just happened to be "hit by the fallout of El Gran Apollo exploding". Apollo says "Garvin" in barely understandable English and makes the motions of a tombstone piledriver. Humperdink takes Apollo off camera, smiling all the way.

Ross says that Tony Atlas is up next.

TONY ATLAS defeats SWEDE HANSON in a hard-fought contest by using a sleeper @ 8:03.

Atlas speaks with Ross at the desk. His voice is stronger than it has been recently. He flexes the muscles in his arms and legs. Mr. USA says that his guns and howitzers are more than able to do his talking. He encourages the fans to shout out to Paul Orndorff who the real "Total Package" in GCW is. Atlas goes into the stands, slapping hands and giving hugs to all the fans.

Landrum says that the main event is next.

KURT VON HESS/KARL VON SHOTZ vs. SWEET BROWN SUGAR/ROBERTO SOTO
This match has the intensity level turned all the way up. It comes to a high impact end after Soto tags in Sugar after slamming Von Shotz to the mat with a side suplex. Sugar hits a top rope splash, while Soto dropkicks Von Shotz to the floor. The masked man covers Von Shotz @ 9:35.

After the match, Humperdink hands the Germans two red and black billy clubs that were under the ring. Security at the TV station has to break up the bedlam. Sugar and Soto get to the desk and say that "this is far from over".

END OF THE FIRST HOUR

GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING
SECOND HOUR

Ross and Landrum welcome the fans to the second hour. Ross says that the AWA World Tag Team Champions are scheduled to be on today's program but he has no idea where they are, at this point. Ole, Arn, and Gene Anderson come out to the desk. Arn feigns looking under the desk, behind the backdrop, and under the ring for The Briscos.

Ole says he has a news flash. The Briscos made a stop in Chickenville and decided to take a permenant vacation there. Ross quickly shows a video of The Briscos making a successful title defense against The Andersons in Rome, Georgia this past Thursday night. Gene says that even a blind, deaf, and dumb squirrel from Oklahoma can find a nut every once in a while. Ole says every match The Andersons are in is part and parcel of a master plan.

Jack and Jerry Brisco, with their suitcases in hand, make their way to the interview area. Jerry is especially vocal toward Arn Anderson. He says that "nobody has ever questioned the guts of a Brisco without paying dearly for it." Anderson calls Jerry "a has been punk who is falling back on his big mouth when he knows his body can't get it done anymore". The four almost come to blows when Gene says it is time to put up or shut up. He says the Andersons want these "two wimps" in the ring today, title or not. Jack says it is on. All five men leave, with insults flying.

Ross says nobody needs to go anywhere.

DICK SLATER/MR. WRESTLING II defeat KILLER KARL KRUPP/BARRY HOROWITZ when II hits the million dollar knee lift on Horowitz @ 7:33.

Landrum talks to II and Slater. Slater is wearing his football jacket that Roddy Piper spray painted "coward" on. He says that he and II are so mad at Piper and Mad Dog Buzz Sawyer that they are going to extreme measures to settle things. He says Wrestling II and he have a proposition for Piper and Sawyer. Next week, right here, they want to wrestle Piper and Sawyer in a Texas Tornado match. Ross says that match means , basically, no rules. II says that is what they want. Those two pushed us into a corner and it is time to come out fighting.

Ross says that that kind of match may take some wrangling, as it may be too violent for TV. Special waivers may have to be signed. Still, knowing what II and Slater have had to endure, he hopes it happens. Cowboy Ron Bass makes his TV Title defense next.

SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM

Bass comes out, complaining to Humperdink. Sir Oliver says he doesn't know what happened.

NATIONAL TELEVISION TITLE
SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM vs. COWBOY RON BASS (C) w/SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK
Graham comes out to the loud cheering of the fans. He settles in on the back of the champ. In a despiration move, Bass pulls at the trunks of Graham, sending him through the ropes to the floor. Humperdink gets in the 'Star's face. Graham grabs him by the shirt collar. Bass knees the hallenger in the back. He rams the shoulder into a ringpost.

Bass keeps the contest going by slapping at the shoulder anytime Graham gets an advantage. Still, Graham catches Bass in a powerslam with :30 seconds left in the 10-minute time limit. He manages to crawl over to make the cover.

"THE VOICE OF GEORGIA"
HOSTED BY: RICH LANDRUM

Landrum is out with GCW chairman George Scott. They reveal and discuss the brackets for the Ray Gunkel Memorial Taped Fist Tournament:

FIRST ROUND:
Tony Atlas vs. Ron Bass
Paul Orndorff vs. Wahoo McDaniel
Superstar Billy Graham vs. Masked Superstar
El Gran Apollo vs.Ron Garvin

Scott and Landrum make several points with their discussions. First, Scott says that nobody can question the toughness of Wahoo McDaniel. However, why would a defending AWA champion be in this tourney where he could risk getting an injury that could cost him the belt later? Landrum says that the ability to meet and defeat all types of challengers that Wahoo has as champ could serve him well here.

Landrum asks the question of how El Gran Apollo made the line-up with such little time in GCW. Scott says that Sir Oliver Humperdink and Ron Garvin are very influential with the powers that be in this sport. They very well could have called in some favors for vastly different reasons. Landrum says that some friendships may be changed or lost as a result of this special event. Scott says two other matches are signed. Buzz Sawyer will face Mr. Wrestling II in a NO DQ match. A Bunkhouse Match will be the special stipulation for Roddy Piper going against Dick Slater.

Landrum says that the fans need to have "their" voice be heard by going to the matches.

RON GARVIN defeats TONY ZANE with a double stomp to the stomach for the middle rope @ 6:56.

Garvin power walks to the desk. He tells Ross and Landrum that he, indeed, called in some favors to get a chance to knock around that "traitor" El Gran Apollo with his fists taped. Garvin also states that he isn't buying that he just "got caught up in things" last week bull. Humperdink knows that these "Hands of Stone" can beat anybody at any time. Fatso is protecting his own meal tickets, pure and simple. Garvin says El Gran Apollo is being used and he will enjoy using him, too, as a punching bag at the Gunkel Memorial.

Ross says the main event is next.

NON-TITLE MATCH
JACK BRISCO/JERRY BRISCO vs. ARN/OLE ANDERSON w/GENE ANDERSON
Ole misses a cannonball splash from the top rope. Jack manages to recover enough to get Ole wrapped up in a small package @ 9:47. Jerry dropkicks Arn to the floor.

After the match, Gene hands a glove to Arn. He and Ole attack Jack and Jerry. Jack is tied up in the ropes and slapped by Ole. Arn takes the glove, which is obviously loaded, and he pounds away at Jerry's ribs. The carnage is continuing, as the credits roll.

Really love the format for this.  Good TV, two hours fly by and a build to the ME.

On this particular episode, Hump was the show stealer, glad he had a bit towards the end of the show, too in the TV belt match - good "book-ends".

Great TV...Humpy is right about his Germans...The heated feud between Brazil/Huber & The MX just got hotter...Never really saw Apollo as massive, but he has given Garvin all he can handle...Great win for Mr. USA...Real good win for SBS/Soto...II and Slater make for an awesome force...Bass got lucky against SBG...The taped fist tourney looks good, but I have to question Wahoo's entry as well...Garvin looked good...The Briscos win the battle, but did the Andersons win the war?  Great work Johnny!
