"Portland Wrestling", 10/27/82
Oct 25th, 2012, 8:01pm

“Portland Wrestling”
Sports Arena
Portland, OR
10/27/82

Don Coss and Dutch Savage open the show from the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “Welcome to the ‘House of Action’! As usual, we have an exciting night of wrestling for you this evening. In our main event, popular newcomer, Rocky Della Serra meets ‘Kangaroo’ Bob Heffernan and you know Buddy Rose and his Army will be around, and speaking of Rose, Matt Bourne will be here to confront Rose about the tag team match from two weeks ago where Steve Pardee was injured. Dutch, the action in the Northwest is fantastic.”

Savage, “What a night we have, you’re right Don. This young Della Serra is very impressive, but you can never count out one of Rose’s men.”

Coss, “Let’s start the card with ‘Flying’ Fred Curry in action.”

Match #1
“Flying” Fred Curry def. Caveman Broda, w/drop kick

Billy White Cloud and Joe Lightfoot are in the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “With us are Billy White Cloud and Joe Lightfoot. These two young men have been very impressive in their short time in the Northwest. Gentlemen, welcome.”

White Cloud, “Thank you Don. We are glad to be here in Portland. The competition is tough and that’s what Joe and I want. We want to face the best.”

Lightfoot. “Billy’s right. The competition in the Northwest is the best. We are ready for whoever Don Owen throws at us.”

Coss, “This is a team to keep an eye on. Let’s see these two young men in action.”

Match #2
Billy White Cloud and Joe Lightfoot def. El Bracero and Pat McGinnis, White Cloud w/Tomahawk chop

“Playboy” Buddy Rose and his Army are in the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “With us are Buddy Rose and the Army. Mr. Rose, things didn’t go your way last week. You tried to help out Chris Colt, but Jimmy Snuka was too much.”

Rose, “Chris Colt isn’t part of the Army, I just tried to help him, but he’s too far gone. The Army only worries about its own.”

Coss, “O.K. let’s move on. The ‘Portland Special’ is coming up and we know the tag titles will be on the line. You’ve been avoiding Stan Stasiak and Billy Jack, but someday you have to wrestle them.”

Rose, “We’re not avoiding anyone! We wrestled Bourne and Pardee and they gave us a great match! They deserve a rematch.”

Coss, “We all know that Steve Pardee is injured.”

Rose, “That’s too bad. We wanted to wrestle them.”

Matt Bourne and Steve Pardee come to the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “Easy now. We don’t want any problems.”

Bourne, “No problems, Don, no problems. Rose, I heard you say Steve was injured, I’ll let him answer that.”

Pardee, “I do have a bunch of stitches, but I’m ready to go and by the ‘Portland Special’ Matt and I will be ready to take those title! Let’s do this again.”

Rose, “O.K., O.K., we’ll wrestle you, we’ll wrestle you at the ‘Portland Special’. You got it!”

Savage, “I get it. You think you can beat these two easier than Stasiak and Billy Jack, well Rose, I think you’re making a big mistake. I think Matt and Steve can beat you and just to make sure it’s fair, I’m going to ask the commission if I can referee it. How about that?”

Rose, “No, no, no! That’s not fair!”

Coss, “I like it. We’ll have to see what the commission has to say.”

Match #3
Non-Title Match
Rip Oliver (Northwest Champion) w/Buddy Rose def. Buck Ramstead, w/Shoulderbreaker

Coss, Savage and Don Owen are in the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “Fans, you heard Dutch Savage volunteer to referee the Northwest Tag Team Title match at the ‘Portland Special’ on November 20. I’ll let Don Owen take it from here.”

Owen, “I’m tired of Rose and his antics, just like all the fans are. I think it’s about time some team got a fair shot at those titles. Dutch Savage is as tough as they come and he’ll call it right down the middle. I like the idea, so I made a call to the commission and they agreed. Dutch Savage will referee the match.”

Savage, “Thank you Don! I can’t wait to do this! Now I want all the fans to know, I won’t favor Bourne and Pardee, but I will give both teams a chance to win. I want to see what would happen to Rose and Wiskoski in a fair fight!”

Coss, “Well on November 22, we will find out.”

Match #4
Doug Somers def. Ron McFarlane, w/Neckbreaker

Coss, “Our main event is next.”

Main Event, Two out of Three Falls
Rocky Della Serra vs. “Kangaroo” Bob Heffernan w/”Playboy” Buddy Rose

First Fall-Della Serra has been very impressive, but tonight he will have to beat Heffernan and look out for Rose all at the same time. The bell rings and Della Serra is on fire. He takes the fight to Heffernan and the Australian is back on his heels. Della Serra hits the victory roll for the win in the first fall.
Winner-Rocky Della Serra

“Playboy” Buddy Rose is with Coss and Savage in the Crow’s Nest.

Rose, “Before you say anything that was a quick count! Sandy Barr’s like you Savage, dishonest! You all hate the ‘Playboy’! You’re jealous of me and my men!”

Savage, “Rose, you’re a big crybaby! Just get your man ready for the next fall and you and Wiskoski get ready for the ‘Portland Special’. You’ve got a big hill to climb!”

Coss, “O.K. Rocky Della Serra is up one fall to none, but let’s talk about next week’s show. Mr. Rose will be in our main event against…Steve Pardee.”

Rose, “That’s what I wanted to hear! I’ll take care of Pardee and then there won’t even be a tag team title match! This is music to my ears!”

Coss, “I don’t know if you should be so confident, time will tell. Let’s get ready for fall number two.”

Second Fall-This is nip and tuck. Both men have their chances, but Heffernan uses s suplex and cover to take the fall. It’s one all.
Winner-Bob Heffernan

Matt Bourne and Steve Pardee are in the Crow’s Nest with Savage and Coss.

Coss,”Steve, you heard the announcement. You get a one on one match with Buddy Rose, next week, on ‘Portland Wrestling’. You have to be happy about that.”

Pardee, “I am Don. Matt and I want the tag titles, but I’d love to shut up that loudmouth by myself before the title match. I’m coming next week to do that!”

Coss, “You know that Rose will have a trick, or two up his sleeve. He’ll want to give he and Wiskoski an edge in the tag team match.”

Bourne, “Steve and I don’t care! Steve gets Rose one on one, and I’ll watch his back. He’ll beat him next week, and then Steve and I will take the tag titles in November!”

Savage, “Just don’t hurt him too badly, I want to referee the title match and I want a close up look at Rose losing the titles.”

Coss, “Next week, Pardee vs. Rose, next the third fall.”

Third Fall-The all is fast paced and exciting. Della Serra gets several two counts. Finally Heffernan rolls him up and uses the ropes for leverage and gets the three count. Della Serra argues with Sandy Barr. Rose tosses Heffernan his boomerang and Bob smashes Rocky. He goes down and Heffernan puts the boots to the fallen Canadian. Rose joins in and Wiskoski comes from the locker room and it’s three on one. Matt Bourne and Steve Pardee hit the ring. All six men brawl as the program ends.
Winner-Bob Heffernan

Savage as the ref and Stasiak/Haynes waiting in the wings? The Rose army is in dire straights. I am watching Borne's interest here very closely. The Special should be awesome.

Great show. Your booking style is a perfect fit here, Tom.

Loved the show.  You're not featuring too many guys, yet keeping it fresh and interesting every week.  Kudos for that.

Hope to see you continue for a long time here in PNW.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've been watching a lot of "Portland Wrestling" on dvd as of late. Don Owen had an interesting booking style. He kept a group of three, or four faces and three, or four heels (Usually lead by Buddy Rose) and almost all the title matches and main events were some version of those two factions. I saw some footage from the late 70's where Rose wrestled Steve Pardee on Saturday in a "Playboy Match", loser has his head shaved, won that and then beat Adrian Adonis, in a "loser leaves town" match, on the following Tuesday on a "Portland Special". He kept around 14, or 15 guys at a time. I've seen a couple of battle royals that had virtually everyone on the roster.
