Southwest Championship Wrestling Championship Wrestling TV show Taped Wednesday Oct. 24, 1982 at The Junction Broadcast on Saturday OCt. 27, 1982 Hosted by Steve Stack Steve Stack welcomed everyone into the show today, and hyped the Brass Knux battle royal taking place at Freeman Coliseum here in San Antonio tomorrow night. Bell time is 7:30pm for that big night of action. The Spoiler then made his way into the frame. He said that he hears Blackjack Mulligan talk about how ain't no man going to tell him what he can and what he can't do. Well I am telling you right now, that the claw hold is my patented hold, and you will stop using it....whether by your own choice, or because I force you to. He then headed to the ring. Match: The Spoiler def. Bobo Brazil Jr. with his claw hold when Brail Jr. passed out. Commercials Steve Stack was joined by Big John Studd who still claims to be the giant in professional wrestling. He said that tomorrow night at the Brass Knuckles tournament, he'll prove once again that he is the baddest man in wrestling. As a tune up, here tonight, he has arranged a little battle royal. It will be him and four other men, and like always, he'll come out on top. Match: Tiger Conway Jr. pinned Johnny Reeves following a shoulder tackle from the middle rope. Steve Stack was then joined by AWA President, Verne Gagne. He said that Verne has big news and is here to share it with us today. Verne thanked Stack for the intro, and said that he was pleased to be here today to announce a big night of wrestling action here in San Antonio taking place on Thanksgiving night. He said that it could be the biggest night of action all year long. He then said that promoters all over the world have been trying to sign a particular match, but he has made it official that it will take place here in San Antonio as part of that big night of wrestling.....as the AWA World Tag Team Champions, Jack & Jerry Brisco will be defending the titles against the superstar Japanese duo of Giant Baba & Antonio Inoki. Steve Stack applauded the announcement, and was about to thank Verne for being here today, when Eddie Mansfield along with Bob Orton SR. came onto the scene. Mansfield said he was so glad to see Mr. Gagne here today, because he wants to report a grave misuse of power on the part of Joe Blanchard. Mansfield then started to name off a laundry list of things, but Verne quickly cut him off, saying that he is well aware of the ongoings between himself and the Blanchard family. Verne then said that he needs to fill Mr. Mansfield in on what he will be doing on Thanksgiving night. He said that matchmaker Joe Blanchard had called him saying that he don't feel comfortable in his position to make any matches between his son Tully and Eddie. So he asked Verne to step in and make a match. So in order to try to put an end to things between Mansfield and Tully, he is ordering a match unlike any other he has ever signed off on. Due to all the bad blood, the possibility of interference, and the ending to their previous matches led him to this match. On Thanksgiving night, Eddie Mansfield will face Tully Blanchard in a cage match, where you can only win by making your opponent say I Quit. After this , we should see a clear cut winner. Verne thanked everyone and left as Mansfield pitched a fit as Stack sent the show to commercial. Commercials Stack was joined by manager Rock Riddle. Riddle said that so far, he has been underwhelmed by the performance of Rip Rogers. He said that as of now, he is temporarily stripping the title of Mr. Wonderful from him, but will give him a chance to redeem himself. Next week, he will have a challenger for Rogers, and if he wins, he'll give him back the title. Match: Hector & Mando Guerrero def. Billy Francis and Rick Conners. Afterwards, they told Steve Stack that they are not yet done with the Fabulous Blondes, and want another match with them for the Southwest Tag Team Titles. Steve Stack mentions the big show coming on Thanksgiving night, and says that that may be a great night for that match. Commercials AWA Newscenter w/ Gene Okerlund Gene talked about Verne's announcement, and talked about how that should be a big night of wrestling in San Antonio on Thanksgiving night. He also talked about the Brass Knuckles tournament tomorrow night, and said that 16 men are entered. The will be drawn at random, and eight one-on-one matchups will determine the 8 participants for the main event battle royal. It will be a come as you are battle royal, winner take all. The last man standing wins $20,000. Tully Blanchard joined Steve Stack and said that finally on Thanksgiving night, he gets to end this Eddie Mansfield. He promises that Eddie will leave on a stretcher that night. Match: Southwest Champion Blackjack Mulligan def. Danny Fargo with his claw hold. Afterwards, he told Steve Stack that he will not be told what to do by a lowlife like the Spoiler. He said that Spoiler is doing this get under his skin in order to get a title match. BJM said they can skip all the rest of the junk, and just fight it out on Thanksgiving! He said if Spoiler thinks he's any kind of man, he can meet him head on and put up or shut up! Commercials Southwest Tag Champions The Fabulous Blondes came out and run down the Guerreros calling them jumping beans, and denying their request for a tag title match, saying they already beat their brains out many times before. So the answer is no, and they will probably just take the night off on Thanksgiving. Battle Royal Challenge: Big John Studd vs. Mike Boyette vs. Nick DeCarlo vs. Ron Sexton vs. Swede Hansen Boyette tried to get everyone to go after Studd, but Hansen went after DeCarlo instead. Studd handled the other two. He tossed out Sexton quickly, and Boyette soon followed.
