Southwest Championship Wrestling 10-28-82 Freeman Coliseum, San Antonio TX Brass Knuckles Tournament Before the show, all 16 names were put in a bowl and drawn at random to determine the opening round matchups. The eight winners will then meet in a bunkhouse battle royal at the end of the night to determine the winner. All matches tonight are being competed under "Brass Knuckles" rules, which means there are no countouts, no disqualifications, and no holds barred, come dressed as you are, one fall to a finish. Match 1: Pat Rose vs. Tiger Conway Jr. Both men came dressed in jeans with cowboy boots, and Rose had his fists taped. In the early going, they were both cautious of each other, but it didn't take long to break down into a fight. The end came when Pat Rose tried to hit COnway with a chair, but Conway ducked out of the way, and school boyed Rose to get the pin with a wrestling move at 10:05. Match 2: Kendo Nagasaki vs. Wendall Cooley Kendo came in wearing his traditional gear, while Cooley came dressed to fight in jeans and cowboy boots. Cooley took the fight to Kendo, but Kendo finished off Cooley after several shots to the head with his kendo stick. Kendo pinned Cooley at 9:09. Match 3: Jose Lothario vs. Dennis Stamp Lothario dominated the match, and pinned Stamp with a Thesz press at 7:44 in what was mostly just a straight up wrestling match. Match 4: Thunderbolt Patterson vs. Eddie Mansfield TBolt had the crowd solidly on his side in this fight with the hated Mansfield. TBolt dominated the action, but Mansfield got his shots in too. Mansfield removed his own cowboy boot and blasted TBolt with it in the head for the pin at 8:16. Match 5: Rip Rogers vs. Bruiser Brody Rip was dressed in a cut off t-shirt and jeans, while Brody wrestled in his usual ring gear. Rogers tried a lot of underhanded moves that are normally illegal, but all this did was get the ire up of Brody who then proceeded to tear Rip apart. He finished him off with a running power slam at 9:04. Match 6: Al Madril vs. Abdullah the Butcher Abby was in his usual gear, but Madril came in with jeans, and cowboy boots with spurs! Madril was not intimidated at all by the sadistic legacy of his opponent and took the fight straight to Abby. The two brawled around outside for a while, and Abby opened up madril with some kind of foreign object from his tight. Madril fough his way back into the contest, and used his spur to open up Abdullah. The two continued to fight in a match with a lot of bloodshed. So much so, it stained various parts of the mat. Madril was on the second rope poised to deliver a shoulder block, but when he launched, Abdullah caught him in the throat with his foreign object to get the winning pinfall at 12:30. Match 7: Tully Blanchard vs. Killer Karl Krupp Tully was attacked in the aisle by Eddie Mansfield before the match. Eddie bloodied Tully with some taped fists, and then left so Krupp could finish him off. Krupp decided to take his time and dish out more punishment, but this allowed Tully to get a second wind and rally back. He finished off Krupp with a slingshot suplex at 8:00. Match 8: Big John Studd vs. Johnny Mantell Mantell took the fight to Studd, but Studd's size makes him really hard to deal with in a match with these rules. Mantell had to resort to using a wooden folding chair from ringside to do damage to Studd. He whacked him across the back on a couple of occassions, but was unable to get Studd down long enough for a pin. Studd gained possession of the chair, and smashed Mantell in the head with it for the pin at 11:28. Intermission Battle Royal Final: Tiger Conway Jr. vs. Kendo Nagasaki vs. Jose Lothario vs. Eddie Mansfield vs. Bruiser Brody vs. Abdullah the Butcher vs. Tully Blanchard vs. Big John Studd The action started hot as Tully Blanchard launched himself into Eddie Mansfield. He beat him silly around the ring while the other guys just paired off in corners and fought it out. At about 5 minutes into it, Tully and Mansfield were going at it on the ropes and leaning halfway over them when Studd came over and flipped both of them out and to the floor at 5:25. The two of them brawled their way back to the locker room. Kendo Nagasaki was tied up Conway, Brody and Abby were going at it, so Studd turned his attention to Lothario. Lothario pulled a glove from his tights, and used it to ring Studd's bell a couple of times! He had Studd rocking and on the ropes. He came at Studd who turned into Lothario with an elbow that stunned him, and that allowed Studd to grab him by the back of the head and launch him over the top rope to eliminate him at 8:50. Everyone kept trading off who they were fighting, and Conway was locked up with Abby. He had Abby rocking when Brody came over to help him try to eliminate him. The two had him halfway out when Kendo came over to lend a hand, but it was Studd's assistance that was enough to get Abby out at 13:20. Studd and Brody then locked up while Conway and Kendo went at it in the middle of the ring. Conway had Kendo reeling and looked ready to eliminate him when Studd lowered the boom on him from behind, and tossed him over the top to the floor for the elimination at 15:30. This left Brody to face Studd and Kendo Nagasaki. They double teamed Brody for several minutes and looked ready to finish him. Studd held Brody while Kendo lined up for his thrust kick. Brody broke free and Kendo socked Studd. The blow knocked Studd backwards and over the top rope, but Studd held on and crashed on the apron. Brody quickly went after Kendo and clotheslined him over the top rope at 19:55. Brody the raised his hands in victory, thinking Studd had been eliminated. But Studd came in behind Brody and gave him a stiff knee to the middle of the back. He then delivered a running clothesline to the back of Brody that propelled him over the top to the floor to give Studd the victory at 20:15. Winner of the Brass Knuckles Tournament and the $20,000: Big John Studd Studd ended the night standing victorious in the middle of the ring with his arms raised and a check in his hand.
