GCW: The Omni Atlanta 10/28/82 Strange Adventures
Oct 29th, 2012, 6:09pm

THE OMNI
ATLANTA, GEORGIA OCTOBER 28, 1982 7 PM
REFEREES: NICK PATRICK, TOMMY WEATHERS. SCRAPPY MCGOWAN

RICKY RICKARD defeats THE CHEETAH KID with a crucifix @ 6:39. (P)

KURT VON HESS w/SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK defeats ROBERTO SOTO after Hump slams Soto in the back of the head. Von Hess clamps on a brain claw for the win @ 10:13. (W)

RUSSIAN ROULETTE BATTLE ROYAL (M)
The wrestlers that will be in the BR were chosen at random right after the Saturday morning TV tapings. The card match-ups will be determined by order of elimination. The last two men left in the ring will wrestle for the $5000 Battle Royal prize. The matches that Masked Superstar and Roddy Piper are in will be for the National and Georgia titles respectively. The first man eliminated will be done for the night.

ORDER OF ELIMINATION:
KARL VON SHOTZ (HANSON)
THE DREAM MACHINE (ORNDORFF)
SWEDE HANSON (ORNDORFF)
SWEET BROWN SUGAR (ORNDORFF)
MASKED SUPERSTAR (MR. WRESTLING II)
BUZZ SAWYER (Piper hits Sawyer with a running elbow when MW II ducks)
RODDY PIPER (MR. WRESTLING II)

The final two wrestlers left in the ring are Paul Orndorff and Mr. Wrestling II. The will wrestle for the $5000.  The fans are the most excited, though, about the chance for Mad Dog Sawyer and Roddy Piper to beat the heck out of each other.

SWEDE HANSON defeats THE DREAM MACHINE w/SIR OLIVER HUMPERDINK by DQ when Nick Patrick catches Dream taking the object out of his mask after head butting the big man @ 9:38. (P)

NATIONAL HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
MASKED SUPERSTAR © defeats SWEET BROWN SUGAR
after Sugar misses a diving head butt. Superstar locks on his cobra clutch. Brown fights with all he has but passes out @ 19:03. (W)
.
.
INTERMISSION
.
.

GEORGIA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
RODDY PIPER © vs. MAD DOG BUZZ SAWYER

Sawyer makes an uncharacteristically high risk mistake here. With Piper looking like he is stalling on the floor, he decides to dive through the ropes. Piper moves. Sawyer hits hard on the ring railing. Piper rolls Mad Dog in and applies a sleeper. Mad Dog goes out @ 17:36. (M)

After the match, Piper wakes up Mad Dog. They both stare down the other and slide out from the ring on opposite sides.

MR. WRESTLING II vs. PAUL ORNDORFF
Orndorff works on the neck and shoulders throughout the match. He powerslams II and applies the full nelson at the 20-minute mark. The masked man manages to duck down and run Orndorff into the turnbuckles. When Orndorff pulls himself back up, II hits the million dollar knee lift and pins Orndorff to win the $5000 @ 22:03. (P)

This was such a fun show, and a nice concept for a show between big angle payoff matches.

Orndorff and II could be a heck of a series of matches, and I would pay to see more.

Nice color scheme too.

Great OMNI card!  All is well when Wrestling II wins a big match...Dream Machine is good enough to beat Hanson without illegal tactics and it cost him this time...Piper/Sawyer would have had the crowd cheering to see them beat the stuffing out of each other...Big SBS fan, but Superstar was just that much better on this night...I always loved where battle royals determined the card and I'm glad you used it here...Great stuff Johnny!

Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience!

Great card from the Omni.  I am a huge mark for Superstar hope he gets a World Title shot soon.  He would make a great champion.

Kudos on the booking and the results.

Great concept and pulled the BR results off fantastically - Piper vs Sawyer!

Will see if there is much fall out from this.
