The new champs claimed the belts after 17:31 Seventh Contest: 1 fall in a strap match for the Florida Heavyweight Championship - Butch Reed and Kevin Sullivan have a brutal brawl in this strap match that sees both men covered in welts and blood by the final bell. Early in the match, Sullivan tried to use the strap to choke Reed, adding hard blows to the back and across the chest of the challenger. Sullivan pounds on the low back of Reed, locking on a Boston crab after about 12 minutes. Reed surprises the audience with a major display of power, reaching the ropes and forcing a break by referee Jack Terry, which Sullivan takes as his victory. But Kevin turns around into a leather strap clothes line from Reed and from there, the Natural gets his turn to deliver the strap. Reed whips Sullivan, each time to more cheers from the crowd. Kevin seems to have had enough and he bails out, only to have Reed grab the strap around Sullivan’s wrist and pull him head long into the steel ring post. A staggered Sullivan tries to fight back, all the while as Jack Terry issues the count… 8… 9… 10… The bell tolls and both men are counted out. Reed gets some payback, but Sullivan is still the champion after almost 20 minutes of hell. Main Event of the evening: 1 fall for the NWA Southern Heavyweight Championship - The Champion, Barry Windham arrives at the ring first, but as the challenger, the One Man Gang makes his way to the ring, he is ambushed by his own stable mates, Jonathan Boyd and his Missing Link. They pound away on the OMG from behind as Jake Roberts walks from the dressing room area. The Gang looks to be fighting off Boyd and the Link until Roberts delivers a powerful knee lift that rocks the Gang back on his heels and allows the Missing Link to slam the massive man from Halstead Street. When he reaches the ring, Roberts grabs the ring microphone from Gordon Solie and tells the fans that the One Man Gang has graciously given up his title match to the true #1 contender for the Southern Heavyweight Title. Paramedics have to come and take the battered One Man Gang to the back as Iaukea, Boyd, and the Missing Link are led back to the dressing room. - In the match, Windham and Roberts pull out all the stops, delivering blows that sounds as painful as they look. Both young stars go through hold after hold, with Roberts seeming to gain the upper hand ever so slightly. As we pass the 25 minute mark, Roberts misses with a knee lift and gets slammed hard to the mat by the Southern Heavyweight Champ, Barry then hurls Roberts into the corner and goes for a bulldog, connecting and then covering for the 1…2…3… No!!! Roberts kicks out. Barry is shaken a little but he pulls Roberts back up and whips him in again to the corner, but this time Jake comes out hard and connects with a clothesline that drops Windham. A cover however only gets a count of 2. Barry fights his way up and looks like he is going to whip Jake into the corner, but Jake reverses and sends in the champ and Barry hits hard, going down to the mat. The Snake smells blood and he pulls up Windham, looking for a short clothesline, but as Roberts whips Windham around, he’s greeted by the move that made Barry’s father infamous: the Blackjack Claw. Barry locks it on and Roberts has nowhere to go. The snake shakes in his boots and crumbles to the mat. Earl Hebner sees that Windham has Roberts shoulders to the mat and counts the fall at 38:57.
