"Portland Wrestling", 11/3/82
Nov 1st, 2012, 5:40pm

“Portland Wrestling”
Sports Arena
Portland, OR
11/3/82

Don Coss and Dutch Savage open the show from the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “Welcome to the ‘House of Action’! As Lonnie Mayne used to say, there is excitement in the air. We are about three weeks from the ‘Portland Special’. We have two big announcements concerning that show and ‘Portland Wrestling’, but first let’s talk about something that happened last week. This man, Dutch Savage, requested to referee the Northwest Tag Team Title match on the ‘Portland Special’. Dutch was granted that request, so it will be Rose and Wiskoski vs. Bourne and Pardee, with Dutch as the referee. Dutch, you have to be pleased.”

Savage, “I am Don, but I want the people to know one thing, and I want Matt and Steve to listen too. I will call the match down the middle, I won’t favor either team. You can count on that.”

Coss, “That’s what the people want to see, a fair match. We have a preview of that match tonight. In our main event, Steve Pardee takes on Buddy Rose. That will be a wild one, and you know that the Army and Matt Bourne will be around, and looking to get involved. Now let’s go to the ring for our first match.”

Match #1
Christopher Colt def. Caveman Broda, w/elbow drop

Stan Stasiak and Billy Jack are in the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “Gentlemen, I know you are happy for Matt and Steve, but you must be disappointed that you do not get the title shot at the ‘Portland Special’.”

BJ, “We are, but we like Matt and Steve and hope they win. We’d like to wrestle two guys who will wrestle by the rules and I think they are going to beat Rose and Wiskoski. Dutch Savage will call it down the middle and that will be all Matt and Steve need.”

Stasiak, “Just like Billy said, we’d love to wrestle Rose and Wiskoski, but when Bourne and Pardee beat them, we’ll be waiting in line.”

Coss, “Well, you won’t be sitting around when you are waiting. You are signed to wrestle the Davidson Brothers on the 20th. That won’t be easy.”

Stasiak, No it won’t, but Billy and I are ready.”

Coss, “We have a treat tonight, Billy Jack will be in single’s action against Buck Ramstead.”

Match #2
Billy Jack def. Buck Ramstead, w/Full Nelson

“Playboy” Buddy Rose and the Army are in the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “Well, it’s a couple weeks away. Mr. Rose, you and Ed Wiskoski meet Steve Pardee and Matt Bourne, with Dutch Savage as the special referee.”

Rose, “First of all, Savage, if the ‘Commission’ wouldn’t fine me, I’d knock you out right now!”

Savage, “Go ahead Rose, I’ll pay your fine.”

Rose, “No, no, no! somehow they’ll strip us of the titles if I do that, so we’re just going to have to beat those two punks!”

Coss, “Well Mr. Rose, you have some business tonight. You meet Steve Pardee and he has revenge on his mind, even before the ‘Portland Special’.”

Rose, “I haven’t decided yet, I might just toy with Pardee and finish him on the 20th, or I might just end his career tonight. I’ll decide later.”

Coss, “The ‘Playboy’ is in action this week, but Ed Wiskoski will be in our main event next week. You are signed to meet ‘Flying’ Fred Curry. Mr. Curry is a tough veteran and you can’t take him lightly.”

Wiskoski, “I can do anything I want. I don’t have to listen to you. Curry is pretty good, but look at me. I am the perfect man and the perfect wrestler. Buddy takes care of Pardee tonight and I do the same to Curry next week. Then on the 20th, we finish off Bourne and Pardee.”

Coss, “The Army is confident as always. Let’s see Ed Wiskoski in action.”

Match #3
Ed Wiskoski w/”Playboy” Buddy Rose def. El Barcero, w/Falling headbutt

“Flying” Fred Curry is in the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “With us is the pride of Hartford, CT, ‘Flying’ Fred Curry. Fred, you been in the Northwest a few weeks and you have been very impressive.”

Curry, “Thank you Don. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Midwest, so I decided it was time to try someplace new. I love the competition here. It’s a challenge each, and every night.”

Coss, “Well next week it gets even tougher. You meet Ed Wiskoski in the main event.”

Curry, “Wiskoski is good enough on his own, and then you toss in Rose and he’s really dangerous. I’ll be ready.”

Coss, “Let’s see Fred in action.”

Match #4
“Flying” Fred Curry def. Pat McGinnis, w/Dropkick

Coss, “Our main event is next.”

Main Event, Two out of Three Falls
Steve Pardee vs. “Playboy” Buddy Rose

FirstFall-
Pardee comes out like a house afire. He takes the fight to Rose and the “Playboy” is on his heels. Rose takes to the floor to regroup. He returns and goes to the roughhouse tactics. It’s too much for Pardee and Rose wins with the Inside Out Billy Robinson backbreaker.
Winner-Buddy Rose

Jimmy Snuka is in the Crow’s Nest with Coss and Savage.

Coss, “With us is Jimmy Snuka. Jimmy, welcome to the Crow’s Nest. You continue to be undefeated since your return to the Northwest.”

Snuka, “Thank you bruddah. I’m happy to be back and I rising to the top.”

Coss, “That you are. I know you have your sights set on the Northwest Title.”

Snuka, “Oliver has it and I want it.”

Coss, “Well we have news about that. Rip Oliver meets the NWA World Champion, Dusty Rhodes, on November 20. If Oliver wins, he will be the World Champion and defend the NWA World Title on ‘Portland Wrestling’ on Saturday night, November 24, if he loses, he will defend the Northwest Title that night. Whatever title is on the line, Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka will be the opponent.”

Snuka, “I’m ready! Oliver bring it on, I’m taking the title, take that to the bank!”

Coss, “That will be a great one. Now let’s go back to the ring for our second fall.”

Second Fall-Rose is cocky and confident. He pulls Pardee up when it appears he could have had the fall. Rose tries for a piledriver. Pardee blocks it, and rolls up Rose in a small package. Referee Sandy Barr counts the fall. Rose is livid.
Winner-Steve Pardee

Coss and Savage are in the Crow’s Nest.

Coss, “Dutch, things continue to heat up in the Northwest. The weather is cooler, but the action is white hot.”

Savage, “I’ve been around a long time and I’ve seen it all, but this might be the best talent roster we’ve ever had, and the best matches.”

Coss, “We have the big ‘Portland Special’ coming up where my partner will be wearing the striped shirt, but let’s talk about next week’s ‘Portland Wrestling’. First of all this man will be here.”

We see a picture of Andre the Giant.

Coss, “The French giant will be in action in two weeks and that’s not all. Listen to this main event. Buddy Rose teams up with the Northwest Champion, Rip Oliver. They take on the team of Billy Jack and the NWA World Champion, the ‘American Dream’, Dusty Rhodes. Dutch, what a show!”

Savage, “Unbelievable Don, just unbelievable. Don’t miss that show.”

Coss, “Now let’s talk about the ‘Portland Special’. Andre the Giant will be in action, as well as Jimmy Snuka, Billy Jack, Stan Stasiak, and ‘Kangaroo’ Bob Heffernan. That would be enough, but it’s not all. ‘Playboy’ Buddy Rose and Ed Wiskoski defend the Northwest Tag Team Championship against Matt Bourne and Steve Pardee. The big news is, my partner, Dutch Savage will be the special referee. Dutch, are you ready?”

Savage, “I promise both teams will get a fair shot at winning, that’s bad news for Rose and Wiskoski.”

Coss, “That will be a great one. Now we have a NWA World Title match. The ‘American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes defends against Rip Oliver, what a show. Now let’s get back to the ring for fall number three.”

Third Fall-Pardee fights for all he is worth, but Rose is too much. He uses the Billy Robinson backbreaker for the win. Rose celebrates in the ring as the program ends.
Winner-Buddy Rose

Tom, you are setting up the Savage ref deal masterfully. I really think that BJ and Stasiak will win those belts. Snuka is waiting patiently in the wings and that is a dangerous place to be.

good show.

Still my favorite show on the board.  Savage had it right when he said PNW has the best matches.  I actually come to the board each week hoping to see your show Tom.  It is written really well, the pacing is great, and the action is top notch and so believable for the time frame.  Excellent work as always.

Now, we're finally getting the match I've been waiting for next week on tv.  That should be a heck of a tag team bout.

Can't wait for the next Portland Special too, so far, it's a stacked card with the 3 matches I know about, and I can't wait to see what else gets added.

Thanks for the feedback. I need to correct a mistake I made. Andre and the tag team match with Dusty will be on Portland Wrestling in two weeks. Fred Curry vs. Ed Wiskoski is the main event mext week. A typographical error on my part. I have since edited it. Sorry for the mixup.
