Maple Leaf Wrestling presents
"SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING"
All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance - Vincent McMahon, President

Taped at the CHCH-TV (ch. 11) studios in Hamilton ON, Friday November 16th.  Syndicated broadcast on regional channels.

We open the show with brief salutations from Milt Avruskin (with youthful enthusiasm) & Sam Menacker (rather bored grumpiness).

MA:  "Fans, "Superstars of Wrestling" will be highlighted by two four man matches that will determine who will join "Maniac" Mark Lewin and Armand Hussein in a TV tournament FINAL four man match on the show NEXT WEEK...Sam, aren't you excited?"

Sam pulls from under the desk the Maple Leaf Canadian Television Title belt.

SM:  "Oh, I am - it was just a bit uncomfortable having this jammed in my lap!  It is a beautiful belt, as a matter of fact.  Any of the eight men competing for it today would be proud to wear it!"

MA:  "Fans, as we MUST determine two finalists today, the matches have NO time limits and we may even fill the entire show and MORE, so let's send it to Norm Kimber for the particulars!"

Match 1 - Vic Rossitani w/ Rip Hawk vs. Ron Ritchie vs. Gilles "The Fish" Poisson vs. THE Hangman w/ Beautiful Bruce
One fall NO time limit

SM:  "There are no seconds allowed but the licenced managers are.  This is not a tag-TEAM match - each man will start in an assigned corner and can tag out to anyone...do we know who will start, Milton?"

Entering the ring is a long-leggedy redhead, clad only in...

...hang on, lost my train of thought...

,,,an oversized ARGOS double-blue Terry Greer #21 jersey, carrying a helmet!

MA:  "Lovely Lori, one of this week's SUNshine Girls, is proudly supporting the Argonauts as they face Ottawa in this weekend's East finals of the CFL - unfortunately, the Ti-Cats were knocked out by the Roughriders".

Sam is distracted:  "...rough rider?  OH, the football team!"

Norm draws two names from the helmet/...Vic will start with The Fish.

And the game is afoot!  Rip-roaring action involving all four working up a lather!

COMMERCIAL 1 -  Enjoy "Superstars of Wrestling" with Mae West...a "Mae West" snack cake from your friends at Vachon Bakery

We return and have THE Hangman eating a few dropkicks from Ritchie.

SM:  "Richie Rich is the smallest of the four but is backing down from no-one...Yes, yes, Milton, I MEAN Ron Ritchie.  And what you might call a double-DIP on the outside as we have both Beautiful Bruce & Rip Hawk keeping an eagle-eye on matters".

MA:  "Both managers are looking good insofar as Rip has Jerry Brown in the other contest.  And as for Brucie, we got a shock last show as he revealed himself to now be managing Armand Hussein, who receives an exemption right into the final as a former TV champ".

Vic is screaming at Ritchie, daring him to give HIM a try...fans rebut by chanting VICKI.

MA:  "A big week for Brucie as the formidable Sheik Ali is also in the fold...sort of an ODD pairing.  But THE Hangman is looking pretty sharp today..."

SM:  "Everything about Beautiful Bruce, I find MORE than a LITTLE ODD..."

Hangman had Ritchie hoisted up but Ron slides down the back, a back elbow jolts the masked man into a tag for the most eager Bombshell Vic.  Whose over-eagerness backfires.  Ron gets him down quick and has a single-leg crab on.  Ritchie reaches and tags big Gilles in.  Not shy about getting some stomps in.

The action speaks for itself for a while.

MA:  "There seems to no alliances or teaming up in play, Sam. truly every man for himself!"

SM:  "And great action.  The fact there was some secrecy, no chance for plotting, and the random drawings...oh, I guess we'll need that young lady again, later on!"

That's as perky as Slamming Sammy has been!  BUT we NOW get a little collusion!  Hangman & Rossitani set up a double-clothesline on Ron - Ritchie flies under the try, springs off the ropes & decks the pair.  He turns to referee Terry Yorkston, who has been busier than the proverbial one-armed paper-hanger.

SM:  "Milton, I think Rossitani is legal, no, The Hangman, darn - I lost rack...errr, track"

Ritchie takes no chances, he hits the double noggin-knocker as Yorkston says The Hangman is legal.  Gosh, Vic took the worst of it, he is really dizzy as he climbs out.

MA:  "The masked Hangman is holding HIS forehead as well..."

Brucie is pouncing about screaming "NOW!  NOW!".

Ritchie smells a rotten fish and I don't mean Poisson!  He tags wobbly VIC in!

Sam is aghast!  "HORRIBLE strategy, The Hangman might be a bit stunned but Rossitani is on queer street!  It does Ritchie NO good to watch another man get the pinfall"

The Hangman adds to a possible concussion by slamming Vic's head to the buckles.  Bruce may be wetting himself with a victory looking like a sure thing.  Rip is on the apron saying Ritchie tagging out was dirty pool.  Ritchie smiles and TAGS IN on The Hangman, who might have a migraine as he clutches his forehead & tries pushing Ritchie aside...he HEADBUTTS VIC!  The fans have never seen a man go down so quickly before!  Bruce is now on the apron, saying that Ritchie never really meant to tag The Hangman out.

SM:  "A sniper's bullet couldn't have taken a man down so fast!"

Yorkston CAN'T get The Hangman out!  Poisson in to help, HE gets a headlock on and rams the masked skull into the FAR buckle...FULL SPEED!

MA:  "Ritchie makes the cover on Rossitani!  Sam, it is a three-count!"

And The Hangman is barely staggered, Poisson is trying to UNMASK him!  JUST as Yorkston & Ritchie arrive...we hear a CLUNK!

Poisson has pulled a metal plate from under the mask!  AH-HA, red-handed!  As Yorkston reaches for tke evidence, The Hangman rocks him with a KNEE LIFT!

SM:  "There is NEVER an excuse for abusing an official like that!  Yorkston is on one knee and look at Bruce & The Hangman RUN!  Its RIP HAWK giving chase!"

COMMERCIAL 2 - United Artists presents "Jinxed!" starring Bette Midler, now playing

We return and Milt recaps what we just saw.

MA:  "The main thing IS that Ron Ritchie got the win as he pinned Vic Rossitani.  The fact of the matter is that Rossitani was in dire straits, thanks to a CONTROVERSIAL head-butt administered by THE Hangman - Rossitani needed help out of the ring and was bleeding from the forehead".

SM:  "The replay shows what The Hangman had under his mask, it was rectangular, shiny and went clunk when it hit the mat.  I am guessing it was NOT a stale chocolate bar in a foil wrapper!  The Hangman, or was it Bruce, made sure it was not left at the scene of the crime!"

MA:  "And Terry Yorkston was LIVID!"

Clip of the ref removing his zebra stripes & running in the direction of Bruce & The Hangman

(Bruce...Hangman...get it?)

MA:  "We do have a moment, and MORE videotape...here is what happened at the end of our last episode".

Shot of mystery masked man grabbing Zumhofe's boom box from the timekeeper's table & busting it on Buck's head - followed by an intense glare into the camera

SM:  "Milton, THIS was slipped under my dressing room door before today\s show...would you care to read it for the audience?"

He passes Milt a note.

MA:  "Hmmm, it is addressed to...PATHETIC fans, oh dear...SCUM wrestlers...OH, and I've NEVER been called THAT before!"

SM:  "I don't even think its physically possible to do it, Milton!  Skip over the insults & obscenities..."

Milt folds the note & addresses the camera.

MA:  "Apparently, there is a VERY angry individual on the loose known as THE MASKED STRANGLER.  He will NOT speak to any of the announcers, and will do his talking in the ring!  Somehow, he seems to think he HAS a contract to wrestle here and will debut NEXT WEEK, IF any wrestler has enough...err, BRAVERY!"

SM:  "NOT a nice man, I'd say...other than putting an end to Zumhofe's annoying music.  Now, more footage from Maple Leaf Gardens last weekend!"

Clips of mat action - including Kurt Von Steiger pinning Butcher Bond & subsequent belt raising by the brothers Von Steiger.  Next, a shot of wild title action between Jerry Valiant & Gene Kiniski.  Which seems abbreviated.

MA:  "A historic night as Kurt & Karl Von Steiger are recognized by ALL of wrestling as the NWA Canadian International tag team champions.  And we could not broadcast TOO much more of Gene Kiniski's defense on television..."

SM:  "It turned downright nasty and blood flowed.  And the result means that Kiniski can FINALLY, officially & honestly call himself the NWA Canadian Heavyweight champ - it is legitimate, confirmed & recognized by the NWA".

MA:  "Fans in Thunder Bay THIS Saturday will see Kurt Von Steiger challenge Mr. Kiniski!"

COMMERCIAL 3

A shot of the announce crew shows Menacker's good mood continues.

MA:  "Let's head to the ring for the next four man qualifying match.  Norm is making the draw to choose which men start...with the assistance of Lori, the SUNshine girl!"

Match 2 - Baron Mikel Scicluna w/ Killer Kowalski vs. Chris Tolos vs. Black Angus Campbell vs. Jerry Brown w/. Rip Hawk
One fall  NO time limit

MA:  "Don't forget to check page 3 of the Toronto SUN for the SUNshine girl every day.  Sam, the action in the previous match was fantastic despite a controversial finish".

SM:  "Yes, FANTASTIC - hang on Milton, Lori is making the draw...Tolos & Scicluna will start.  A bit of luck for Jerry Brown as his advisor is just making his way to ringside.  I hear that Mr. Hawk was unsuccessful in catching up to The Hangman & HIS manager, but has been asking the Maple Leaf brass for some sort of justice for Rossitani".

The Baron & Kowalski believe they have a CHOICE and Mikel would rather NOT lead.  Senior referee Wayne Cashman is assigned & advises otherwise as Tolos is getting antsy.  He pulls the Maltese nobleman in & away we go.

MA:  "There was no announcement that Maple Leaf was starting the process to crown a TV champion BUT all the wrestlers were given the opportunity to be in qualifying matches the past two weeks.  Killer Kowalski has only himself to blame as he decided to leave his big brawler Killer Joe Nova back in the Boston area".

SM:  "I was surprised that young prospect "Mean" Mike Miller passed up on his chance!  Now that we all know it was the chance to earn the TV belt, I asked Miller.  He's very philosophical about it & says he wants to be contending STRICTLY for the Heavyweight belt with the likes of Valiant, Kiniski, Siki and Powers".

Scicluna has his wish granted by making a tag to Campbell - Tolos rolls to Jerry Brown's corner & tags out.  Chris is annoyed that Rip Hawk is hanging about & suggests he'd be wise to move it along - by threatening a kick.  Kowalski has had to circle the ring to confer with Scicluna.

MA:  "Each wrestler is likely to end up in each corner, as there have been several tags so far - and WE find we need to take a break!"

COMMERCIAL 4

MA:  "While we were gone, Black Angus Campbell has been battling both Scicluna and Brown".

SM:  "Getting Baron Mikel to tag into the action is like pulling teeth!  The referee has been keeping an eye on that!  Meanwhile, Chris Tolos has been asking Angus for a tag, but the kilted wonder is stuck on the far side of the ring, he's getting the better of Brown".

Hang on, we get Campbell tagging Scicluna...trying to tag him - the Maltese snob is trying to decline!

SM:  "Kowalski is convincing The Baron he can't WIN, unless he gets IN!"

Brown & Campbell are irate about this and Cashman is calming them down.  Mikel has entered the ring with his nose in the air & fussing with his tights.

SM:  "For YEARS Scicluna has claimed to be a blue-blood and loathes dealing with the lower classes".

Brown is placated and turns to face Scicluna...

POW!

MA:  "A right cross surprises Jerry...oh, we can't show him..."

Big red "X" covers the action

SM:  "Brown is busted open!  Oh, the Hollywood Bombshells are dropping like bombshells tonight!"

Campbell & Tolos suggest there was something in the hand!  Most of the fans are sure & Rip Hawk is 1000% convinced.  Scicluna is adjusting his boot very calmly and innocently.  He drops down on Mr. Brown.  Cashman has to keep Rip from coming in, Kowalski is pounding the apron.  HIS 3-count is well over 5 by the time Cashman checks the shoulders.

MA: "If this result stands, Baron Mikel Scicluna has made it to the TV title final!"

SM:  "Oh, you won't want to miss this fans!  Rip Hawk & Killer Kowalski are going at it!  Hey, they both look pretty good!  The referee has been asked to check Scicluna's waistband but there is nothing there"

Scicluna gets his arm raised!

MA:  "Next week, he'll face Mark Lewin, Armand Hussein & Ron Ritchie right here on "Superstars of Wrestling", fans".

COMMERCIAL 5

Norm plugs live events this week in Owen Sound, Sarnia & Saturday in Thunder Bay.

Milt adds details about Thunder Bay - Mike Miller faces Black Angus Campbell, Sheik Ali & Armand Hussein face The Caribbean Sunshine Boys.  Eight matches headlined by Kurt Von Steiger vs. Gene Kiniski as we return to the Fort William Gardens.

Match 3 - Mr. Florida vs. Denny Brown
One fall 10 minutes

MA:  "We do have time for one more match featuring two fine Light Heavyweights.  Note the 10 minute time limit - once the Maple Leaf Canadian Television title is decided on our show next week, all TV title matches will be scheduled for TEN minutes".

SM:  "We have only had two matches so far but they were lengthy battles.  Perhaps we can fit MORE action in and dispense with all the talking!"

Mr. Florida in his sharp red / white / blue motif is looking a bit tentative against "Downtown" Brown.

MA:  "Perhaps we will, Sam!  I bumped into Jack Tunney & he says that the promoters are looking at some more Light-Heavyweight competition to come here with the aim of deciding the NWA Canadian Light-Heavyweight title.  Right now I'd say Denny Brown & Buck Zumhofe are top contenders".

"Someone mention the "Rock & Roller" 's name, daddy?"

It is Zumhofe himself with a bandaged head!  No ghetto blaster, but a sheet of paper in hand.

In the ring, Brown has an inside cradle - Mr. Florida reverses & they roll all over the ring before Brown gets the shoulders locked to the mat.

BZ:  "Good win for Downtown Brown!  Hey I know we're runnin' out of time but look what I found in my locker!"

Hands the paper to Milt.

MA:  "Another note from the MASKED STRANGLER!  Hmmm, I'll skim over SOME of it - his attack on YOU was nothing personal, he can't be bothered with 98-POUND WEAKLINGS...The Masked Strangler again VOWS to appear next week and he'll put everybody on notice, quote "I MEAN BUSINESS" end quote!  Tune in next week, fans, we'll crown the TV champion AND might see this masked MANIAC again!  Remember, it will be Ron Ritchie, Baron Scicluna, Armand Hussein & Mark Lewin in four way action for the television title!"

RESULTS

  • Ron Ritchie pins Vic Rossitani
  • Baron Mikel Scicluna pins Jerry Brown
RITCHIE & SCICLUNA ADVANCE TO TV TOURNAMENT FINAL
  • Denny Brown pins Mr. Florida
