Fifth Contest – 1 fall with a 15 minute time limit The Malenko Brothers w/ Boris Malenko defeat the duo of Perro Aguayo and the Nightmare after communication issues arose between the masked man and the Mexican Mad Dog that saw Aguayo leaving the Nightmare to face the former tag champs alone. This then saw the Nightmare leave the ring, chase down Aguayo and brawl their way to the dressing rooms. Winners by count out, the Malenko Brothers Intermission Fans are encouraged to write in to the Florida wrestling offices, to request a match they want to see during the holiday season, with 1 special match chosen each week through the month of December on Southern Championship Wrestling starting December 1st. The steel cage is then assembled. Sixth Contest – A Steel Cage Match for the Florida Heavyweight Championship Inside the steel, “the Natural” Butch Reed faces off with the champion, the Devil himself, Kevin Sullivan. For almost 3 months, Reed has been chasing the Florida title and Sullivan, by hook or by crook has been just a half step ahead, escaping by count out or disqualification. Today, there is no escape. There is only win or fail. There will be blood, pain, all the things that Sullivan loves and Reed will deliver. The two men square off in the ring with referee Jack Terry the third man inside. The bell sounds and the two combatants get face to face. Reed is flexing his chest, looking coolly at the champion. Sullivan with a snarl etched on his sadistic face, waits for the challengers first move, throwing a sharp left to strike first. And with that first punch, the brawl begins. Reed and Sullivan take turns driving one another head long into the steel. Gashing, gushing, bleeding, breaking. Sullivan looks early on to have the upper hand, working on the back of the challenger and locking him into a back breaking Boston crab near the 10 minute mark. Reed powers out and battles back. He punishes Sullivan, pushing the count for a break time and again. A big power slam gets a near fall, and the champion barely survives after a huge press slam near the 15 minute mark. The end comes though after a Sullivan was able to reverse an Irish whip and slam the bad back of the challenger into an unprotected turnbuckle. A jarring hip toss sent Reed to the mat and Sullivan delivered a double stomp to the chest of the challenger. A cover, but Reed kicks out. Now frustrated, Sullivan climbs up to the top turnbuckle and leaps down. Reed rolls out of the way and Sullivan comes down awkwardly, his ankle seeming to buckle. Reed pulls himself up and runs at the far side’s ring ropes, flying back at Kevin with a huge airborne shoulder tackle. Butch covers and Jack Terry counts the 1-2-3. Winner of the match in 18:46 and NEW Florida Heavyweight Champion, Butch Reed 2nd Intermission As the cage is taken down, fans are again reminded to write in and request matches they want to see in the month of December. Seventh Contest- 1 fall with a 20 minute time limit In a tag team grudge match, Mike Graham and Brian Blair defeat “Warlord” Jonathan Boyd and his Missing Link after a big drop kick from Blair knocked the Missing Link into a waiting Graham sleeper hold after 14:30. Eighth Contest – 1 fall for the NWA Southern Heavyweight Championship Jake Roberts approaches the ring with a large bag over his shoulder and with King Curtis Iaukea a step behind. The leader of the Legion of Doom grabs the house microphone from Gordon Solie. “Barry Windham. Before you come out here, you need to look yourself in the mirror and ask, ‘Do I have enough tonight?’ Because I’ve looked into these eyes, Windham. I know, in my soul, what I’m capable of doing to you. I know what will happen. You will fall. And then, you will feel the coolness creep over you, your failure will consume you. And when you see me standing above you holding that Southern Heavyweight belt, it will swallow you whole.” Windham comes out to loud cheers from the Fort Lauderdale fans, handing off the belt to referee Jack Terry. Following the bell, Roberts immediately slides to the outside and gets an earful from the fans, including a few empty cups tossed in his general direction. Windham shows the patience of a champion and Roberts finally gets back into the ring for an initial tie up. But it is quick as Jake knees the champ in the midsection and starts going to work on the double dangerous right arm. Jake is looking to take away both the lariat and the claw hold the champion uses and for the first 3-4 minutes, the leader of the Legion of Doom does so unmercifully. Finally, after using the ropes to torque the arm, referee Earl Hebner finally calls for a break and Roberts backs away, with only a sharp kick to get the arm free from its entanglement. Barry tries to battle back, relying on the left, knees and a surprising dropkick to get Roberts on his heels and only a distraction by King Curtis gains the challenger a reprieve. As the ten minute mark passes, both second generation grapplers show they have learned their lessons well. Near the 12 minute mark, Barry looks to finally have control of the match and goes for a bulldog, only to be shoved off by Roberts, having trusted the grip of his battered right arm. A rear chin lock, grounds Windham and is only broken when Barry pushes Jake into a pinning predicament. Roberts rolls away and strikes quickly, delivering a sharp clothesline of his own that takes down Windham as the challenger goes back to work on the arm. A rudimentary hammer lock adds to the pressure until the champion reaches the bottom rope for a now desperate break. Twenty minutes have passed and Roberts sheen of sweat has him taking on a more serpentine appearance. When Windham tries for a back body drop, Jake just drops to a knee and delivers a staggering upper cut. Then the challenger drives a knee into the champion that sends Windham tumbling through the ropes to the outside. But as the Snake chases down his prey on the outside, a malevolent mongoose makes his way to the ring area in the massive One Man Gang. Iaukea tries to keep him away, but is slammed head long into the steel ring post, busting the King wide open. Roberts hustles away, but the OMG rumbles after him. The challenger is looking back so far, he fails to see the champion rise ahead of him. Barry delivers a lethal left arm lariat that floors Roberts. Barry staggers and rolls inside the ring just as referee Hebner finishes his count. Winner of the match, as a result of a count out at 24:29, Barry Windham With Roberts down, now the Gang gets in his licks, pounding on Roberts to the cheers of the crowd until the blood covered King Curtis pulls forth the snake which Roberts brought to ringside. Iaukea tosses the snake onto the OMG, gaining Jake the moment he needs to escape. Main Event of the Evening Best 2 out of 3 falls for the NWA World Tag Team Championship – 60 minute time limit Hernandez and Garvin strut to the ring, while their challengers Barr and George seem more serious. But this feud comes quickly to blows. Gino does the damage early as he catches Mike with a nice flying back elbow, but Barr saves his partner with a stiff sledge hammer blow. Garvin looks very strong against Jesse, and the champions get the first fall after 8 minutes thanks to a pile driver from Jimmy on the young Barr. The second fall sees Garvin go right after the already damaged neck of Barr, but youthful resilience allows Jesse to make a blind tag, with Mike rolling up Jimmy to even the falls at one a piece. The third fall is a barn burner with neither team giving an inch. Hernandez and Garvin are busted open and Barr looks like he has the handsome half-breed in the spinning toe hold. But Gino rolls it into a small package and the World Champions escape with their belts once again.
