Las Vegas International Championship Wrestling. Host: Gene Okerlund. Recorded 11/27/82 at WGN TV in Chicago for Broadcast on Saturday December 1, 1982 at 12 Noon on KVVU-TV Channel 5 in Las Vegas. Okerlund welcomes everyone to the show and then welcomes Lord James Blears, the Manager of Operations for Las Vegas International Championship Wrestling. Blears says a number of changes are in store for the fans starting this week. He says next week Las Vegas International Championship Wrestling changes it’s name to American West International Wrestling from Las Vegas. He adds, the names of the Pacific Rim Heavyweight Title and the Pacific Rim Tag Team Titles will change to the American West Heavyweight and Tag Team Titles respectively, starting immediately. With that, Blears and Okerlund welcome in Mil Mascaras and mentioned he retained his title with a title versus mask win over El Halcon, Sunday night at the Dunes. Blears and Mascaras shake hands and congratulates him on his win. Blears then takes the Pacific Rim belt and hands him the new American West Heavyweight Title and declares him the first American West Heavyweight Champion. This doesn’t sit well with the International Heartthrob, Austin Idol who joins the men. “Who cares, if Mil Mascaras beat some hobo wearing an ugly mask to cover an even uglier face. Then you, Lord James Blears, gives a brand new belt to another hobo wearing a even uglier mask probably hiding an even uglier face!” “I tell you people, it is not fair, it is not American and I am here to make sure justice is served. Me, Dallin’, the Universal Heartthrob is here to make things right. To add class and dignity to the show and make sure that masked hobos aren’t representing the Great American West, this program and most of all, my city of Las Vegas.” Mascaras is starting to get annoyed as Idol continues. “I am telling you, Millard, that I when I get my way, and sooner or later I always do, I will beat you in the center of the ring for that shiny new belt and all the Idolmanics will rejoice!” Mascaras looks over at Blears and Okerlund and asks… “Is he is done yet?” Idol goes to answer but before he does, the Mexican Superstar speaks… “Idol, you are as annoying as you are foolish. If you want a match for this belt, and if Mr. Blears agrees to it, consider it done. I have faced more powerful and vicious men then you and will learn the same way Halcon learned.” With that Mascaras, shakes Blears’ hand again and walks off, but Idol wants the last word. “You might’ve faced more stronger men than me, you might’ve faced more vicious men then me, but I guarantee you, you’ve never faced a man prettier than me, nor as good in the ring as I am, Milton! I will beat you for the title and send you back to Tijuana, where you and your mask can pump gas for the tourists wearing sombreros, Baby!” Gene tells the fans Blears will be back later to discuss a few more items but time to throw it to the ring. MATCH 1 – SUPERFLY TUI & PRINCE MAIVIA def BILL WHITE & THE SUPER DESTROYER at 8:33 in a great opening match that saw Maivia pin White with a superfly splash. After the win, Maivia and Tui join Gene Okerlund. Superfly tells Okerlund they are ready for championship gold and hope to be facing The Sheiks for the belts soon. Okerlund asks about Gentlemen Jim Holiday and his tag team of Kevin Kelly and Tim Horner. Maivia says Holiday pulled one over on them Sunday night at the Dunes, but it will not happen again. BREAK 1 =============0000=================== International Heavyweight Champion Jerry Lawler comes out and tells Okerlund of his quest to become world champion by the end of the year. He says so far, he has had to deal with the likes of Nick Bockwinkel and his cronies, Manny Fernandez, whom he called “vicious and downright mean” but he says his biggest surprise came from AWA World Champion Wahoo McDaniel whom he thought better of. With that Okerlund says they have video clips from the MidSouth Coliseum in Memphis Monday night November 26th, as Lawler challenged Wahoo for the AWA World Title. AWA World Title Match Chief Wahoo McDaniel© def. Jerry Lawler with a chain after 42 min. of Lawler dominating the action. Lawler had McDaniel pinned at the 37 min. mark after a piledriver, but referee Calhoun had been knocked out in a collision. After the match, security has to help McDaniel through the angry crowd. Before Lawler can continue, World Champion Wahoo McDaniel comes out. Lawler: “Really, Chief! A chain? I really thought you were better than that. I would expect that from Bockwinkel but not from you.” Wahoo: “Get off your high horse and quit whining Lawler. You’ve never been a world champion and never will be at this rate. You don’t know what it takes to be a world champion. I travel every day and wrestle every night against some of the best and most vicious athletes in the world. They didn’t hand me this belt like other’s around here get handed things, I worked for it, and I won it from a man who threw everything he had at me. I don’t have to answer to some snot nosed punk who’s a big deal in some bumpkin town like Memphis and nowhere else. I am my own man! “ Lawler: “Yeah you are your own man, alright!” With this out comes Manny Fernandez and the situation escalates. Fernandez: “I don’t blame The Chief for using a chain on you Lawler. Heck maybe he should’ve used a chainsaw. I know more than anyone how hard it is to get a fair shake in Memphis, it’s where you and your crooked referees stole the International Title from me. So The Chief is just protecting his own interests. I respect that. You know, Wahoo, you and I are a lot alike.” Lawler: “Yeah, the two of you can compare cheap shots. Know this Chief, and you too Fernandez, when I get either of you in the ring, I am going to be looking out for MY best interests and right now, Wahoo, my interest is your AWA World Title.” Lawler walks off leaving Wahoo and Fernandez. Fernandez looks over to Okerlund. Fernandez: “You see, Wahoo knows this, this is sport about winning. I know how to win and Wahoo knows how to win. We are sort of brothers.” McDaniel: “Fernandez, you and I are NOTHING alike. I will hold on to this belt at all costs, but you Fernandez, you are a low rent thug. You don’t have enough brains to know how to wrestle so all you can do is try to injure someone. So don’t you EVER compare your sleazy carcass to me!” Fernandez is too stunned to comment as Wahoo walks off and Gene Okerlund throws it to the ring. MATCH 2 – BILLY ANDERSON def GARY ROYAL in 5:43 with a bulldog. Billy Anderson is being interviewed by Gene Okerlund, telling Gene he feels right at home here in the American West. As he is being interviewed a man in a white tuxedo comes out and Okerlund is at a loss for who the man is. “Aw c’mon Gene…surely you know who I am?” The man in the white tux asks with a smile on his face. Gene responds as Anderson looks unimpressed by the visitor, “No, I don’t know who you are and don’t call me, Shirley.” The man playfully laughs and looks at Anderson, “Certainly, YOU know who I am?” Anderson coldly responds, “Yes, I know all about you!” Then tuxedoed man ends Okerlund’s suspense saying, “I am Mr. Las Vegas, Jody Arnold, that’s who I am!” Okerlund: “Well Mr. Arnold, I am interviewing Billy Anderson here…” “You see,” Arnold responds, “Great minds do think alike, Gene. That is why I am here too. I like Billy Anderson, and while we have had our differences in the past, I do admire the boy.” Anderson calmly breathes, but glares at Arnold. The newcomer continues, “There is nothing wrong with Billy Anderson that a little bit of guts couldn’t cure!” “I knew it, as soon as I saw him, I knew it.” Anderson says shaking his head as Gene wonders what is going on. Arnold: “You see Billy, I learned a lot about you and I can help you in your career. We can help each other. Let’s form a tag team and blow Vegas up with what a couple of guys who put Phoenix on the wrestling map can do!” Anderson: “Phoenix was years ago, and we didn’t see eye to eye then either. You’re still the same, Jody, still the same.” Billy walks off while Arnold stands there and Gene throws it to break. BREAK 2 ======000000========================= Adnan EL Kaissee and The Sheik come out and demand the Lord James Blears bring them their new American West Tag Team Titles. The tirade continues for a few minutes until Blears slowly walks out with the belts. The two Sheiks quickly grab their new belts and carelessly drop the old ones on the floor infront of Blears, who bends down and picks them up. Adnan: “It is only good that an Iraqi and a Syrian hold American belts. We will show the world to look to the East for guidance and we will conquer that hairy American Bruiser Brody and the big French dummy Andre the Giant!” “HOOT…. HOOT…. HOOT…. HOOT!” Rings through the studio as The Shieks become wide eyed and back away pulling Blears infront of them. They use him as a shield as Bruiser Brody and Andre the Giant come to ringside. “You want to conquer? Let’s see you conquer us!” Andre bellows. Adnan gets ready to say something, when… “HOOOOT” comes from Brody is chest to chest with Blears, with the crouching Sheiks behind him. “Today Mr. Blears. We want The Sheiks and a shot at those belts.” Brody says. “Boys please, let’s take this a step back” Blears says as he contains the situation. Adnan: “A step back is good. Step back hairy man and you too, you French ape!” The Sheik mumbles something unintelligible. “Adnan, please!” Says Blears who then says since Sunday night’s match for the tag team titles was inconclusive, he cannot think of a better way for The Sheiks to kick off their new title reign by being an example to wrestlers everywhere and defending the belts right here on Television this week. “HOOT HOOT HOOT” Brody happily bellows as Andre smiles. “Oh shut up, you hairy man, and quit your grinning you big goof!” Adnan angrily tells them, “You must be mad you old fool Blears. I was going to give you a night with my harem for giving us these belts, but now you can sleep with the camels like these two cretins will do after we destroy them later.” Andre is still grinning, Brody is still hooting as Adnan shakes his head, The Shiek gibbers and Okerlund throws it to the ring. MATCH 3 – KEVIN KELLY & TIM HORNER w/Gentleman Jimmy Holiday def BILL HOWARD & FRANK MONTE in 5:58 when Kelly nails Monte with a big shoulder breaker. After the match, Holiday comes over and calls his new team Lightning and Thunder referring to Horner’s speed and Kelly’s power. He says his team must be considered the number one contender’s to the American West Tag Team Titles as they have already defeated Maivia and Tui and he boast his team will go through Andre the Giant and Bruiser Brody if they have to. BREAK 3 ==================0000======================== Manny Fernandez comes out and says, “Wahoo thinks he is better than me, huh? Well, Chief, you are no better than I am. In fact, Mr. World Champion, you are less because at least I am honest in who I am, while you hide behind excuses and your world title. You don’t need to worry about that wimp, Lawler, because now you have to worry about me coming after your belt. As a former International Champion, I never received my World Title shot and now I am going to call it in.” The angry Fernandez leaves Okerlund and heads for the ring. MATCH 4 – JULES STRONGBOW def MANNY FERNANDEZ by disqualification at 7:15 when Fernandez wouldn’t stop choking Strongbow along the bottom rope after a hot match between the two. AWA World Champion Wahoo McDaniel came out and attacked Fernandez to get him off of Strongbow. Fernandez and Wahoo fought for several minutes until Wahoo busted Fernandez open with a chop to the head and Manny left the ring. Wahoo tells Gene, he doesn’t care who it is, “Fernandez, Lawler, Mascaras, Bockwinkel, anyone, I’ll fight anyone!” BREAK 4 ============000========================== The American West Tag Team Champions, Adnan El Kaissee and The Sheik, are already in the ring when the challengers, Bruiser Brody and Andre the Giant enter the ring like gangbusters. For the American West Tag Team Titles: MATCH 5 – THE SHEIK & ADNAN EL KAISSEE vs ANDRE THE GIANT & BRUISER BRODY. Andre and Brody tear into the ring and attack the Sheiks as the fans go berserk. The bell rings and Andre is throwing Adnan around like a rag doll. Adnan gets no offense in as The Giant has his way with him. The Shiek doesn’t fare much better and when he tries to pull out an illegal object on Brody, Bruiser is able to get it and throw it out of the ring and pound the Syrian some more. When Andre comes back in, Adnan has been tagged back in and the Giant picks up where he left off. Adnan is able to rake the eyes of Andre then he motions to The Sheik who nods. Brody sees this and tries to rush the ring but he is stopped by the referee. With the referee’s back turned, Adnan and The Sheik DOUBLE fireball Andre. “ARRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” Andre yells as he falls to the mat. The Sheiks start to stomp The Giant as Brody shoves the referee out of the ring, and attacks both Sheiks. “MY EYES!!!!!!!!!!” Andre yells as the crowd goes silent and Brody chases the Champions from the ring. The referee goes over to Okerlund and tells him Bruiser Brody and Andre the Giant have been disqualified at 8:01 because Brody pushed the referee out of the ring. Okerlund cannot believe the decision but is more concerned about Andre in the ring holding his eyes. Wrestlers from the back come out to help Andre as does medical personal and Lord James Blears. Blears calms Brody and then goes over to Okerlund. Blears tells Okerlund, “Using fire balls and these kinds of tactics will not be tolerated. He adds next week, he will have a ruling on what happened today.” END OF SHOW =================00000===============================
