Windy City Championship Wrestling taped November 27, 1982 at WGN TV Studios in Chicago, Illinois for broadcast at 10am on Chicago’s very own nationally syndicated superstation, WGN-TV Channel 9. Hosts: Roger Kent and Gene Okerlund. Kent and Okerlund welcome everyone to the show and both seem excited to tell the fans about the news from Thanksgiving night in Omaha. Kent says we have new USA Tag Team Champions, “The young team of Bobby Jaggers and Steve Williams defeated Adrian Adonis and Jesse Ventura for the gold." Okerlund tells the audience that in a surprise victory, Precious Paul Ellering defeated Jim Brunzell in the tournament finals for the Heartland Heavyweight Title. Gene adds that match was not without controversy but the decision still stands. Kent adds the excitement doesn’t stop there as Sunday December 2nd at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, it’s Night of Champions 1982. Kent welcomes in Bobby Jaggers and Steve Williams with their mentor Blackjack Lanza. The three men shake hands with Kent as they walk by. Kent says he wants to show some clips from their exciting win. VTR FROM OMAHA, NEBRASKA: Late in the match with Williams back in the ring, he was locked in Adonis’ Goodnight Irene sleeper. Williams makes a calculated move to break the hold by charging into the opposition’s corner and ramming Adonis and Ventura’s heads together. Ventura falls to the floor while Adonis is stunned in the corner. Williams struggles over and makes the tag to Jaggers who is ready to get in the ring. Ventura dazed but makes it too the ring apron where he is immediately tagged in by Adonis. Jaggers whips Ventura over the top rope into the ring and then nails him with a bulldog. Valiant on the outside sees what is going on and his losing his mind. When he tries to enter he is caught by Blackjack Lanza. In the ring, Ventura hasn’t had a chance to breath as Jaggers keeps on him and tags in Williams. Jaggers whips Ventura into the ropes and Williams catches him in a crushing powerslam. Adonis realizes what is happening too late and as he tries to enter the ring, he is caught by Jaggers. Williams pins Ventura at 21:39 and he and Jaggers win the USA Tag Team Titles. Valiant, holding his jaw, is stunned. Jaggers, Williams along with their mentor, Blackjack Lanza celebrate in the ring. Bobby Jaggers and Steve Williams both thank Blackjack Lanza for their help and guidance and dedicate the win to him. Lanza smiles and says to his charges, “You boys did all the heavy lifting, I just gave a little advice.” Jaggers says the win of the USA Tag Team Titles puts them in the number one contender’s position for the AWA World Tag Team Titles. He says he is looking forward to continuing the roll, winning the world straps from Jack and Jerry Brisco, Sunday night at the Night of Champions. This brings out The Valiant Empire, Johnny Valiant with his men, American Television Champion Larry Zbyszko, Ken Patera, and former USA Tag Team Champions, Adrian Adonis and Jesse Ventura. The five men look like they are ready for a fight, but Jaggers, Williams and Lanza do not back down. The fans start to cheer as Bad Bad LeRoy Brown and USA Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund come out and back up Lanza and the USA Tag Team Champions. Roger Kent reassess the situation and tries to keep everyone calm by saying “we don’t want any trouble out here.” “There will be no trouble”, Valiant says, “as long as these guys (pointing to Lanza, Jaggers and Williams) obey the rules and laws.” Valiant continues after a few seconds, while opposing forces stare each other down, “You see Kent, while Jaggers and Williams here did get a lucky win against, Adrian and Jesse, Thursday night, they will not…and I repeat WILL NOT be facing Jack and Jerry Brisco for the AWA World Tag Team Titles at Night of Champions. The contract says the World Tag Team Champions will defend against Adrian and Jesse, not the USA Tag Team Champions.” Valiant hands Kent the contract while the announcer and Lanza look at it. Valiant: “It’s there highlighted in yellow.” The wrestlers start to tense up as the two sides are waiting for the other to pull the trigger. Then Jaggers realizes the politics of the situation. Jaggers: “You slimy sneaky son of a …..” “Now everyone hold on one second!” A voice bellows from off camera as VP of Operations, Buddy Rogers interjects himself into the situation. Kent asks Rogers, “Perhaps, you can shed some light on this situation as their seems to be some confusion. “ Lanza: “The USA Tag Team Champions are the number one contenders to the AWA World Tag Team Champions, that is the way it always have been and they get their choice of what world champion they want to face either as a team or individually.” Rogers: “That’s true, Jack.” Valiant: “Rogers you cannot breach this contract, or I swear I will sue you, Heartland, The AWA, and that burger making boss of yours to high Heaven!” Rogers: “Valiant, do not forget who you are talking to. As VP of this company, I can and will make your life very uncomfortable if you do not change your tone.” Valiant pauses then gives, “Yes sir, Mr. Rogers, it’s your neighborhood.” Rogers: “Sarcasm isn’t needed either, Valiant! Now Yes, Bobby and Steve are the number one contenders to the AWA World Tag Team Titles, but that wasn’t the case when the contract was signed. I okayed this contract and this match. Ordinarily, the contracts state the team or wrestler and their status, meaning what titles they hold. This one was different, it states the Champions, Jack and Jerry Brisco will face Adrian Adonis and Jesse Ventura. That’s the contract, Boys. Sorry, but as they say it is signed, sealed and delivered.” Jaggers: “We have a right to a title shot against the AWA World Tag Team Champions!” Rogers: “Of course you do, and you’ll get that title shot, just not at the December second, Night of Champions, here in Chicago.” Valiant, happy as a lark, tells Rogers he always knew the Former NWA and WWWF champion was a good man no matter all the dirty rotten things he’s heard about him from others. Rogers just looks at the manager for a moment and walks off. The Valiant Empire leave as well with various members calling the fan favorites, “suckers”, “losers” and “idiots” as they walk off. Jaggers says this isn’t over. Backlund, puts his hands on the shoulders of Williams and Jaggers and says, “Come on, guys, what’s done is done!” LeRoy Brown looks over at Lanza and says, “Something stinks, Jack. Something’s just not right!” Lanza stoically answers, “I think you’re right, LeRoy!” MATCH 1 – PAUL ELLERING w/ Animal and Konga def LARRY JONES in 6:22 with some help from his Doomsday teammates. Heartland Heavyweight Champion Paul Ellering along with the other members of Doomsday come over to Gene Okerlund. Ellering says this is only the beginning. He says soon, “The Tumbleweed Twins”, Bobby Jaggers and Steve Williams will have to face Doomsday in the ring again and it will “be the end of their short reign as USA Tag Team Champions.” This brings out the USA Tag Team Champions again. Jaggers is in no mood to be trifled with and does the talking for the team. “Ellering, if you want to put your Goonsday tag team up against a couple of real Midwestern men, in the spirit of the original jayhawks, that weren’t afraid of a fight with anyone, then come on. Since we find ourselves without a match for Night of Champions, I think Steve and I would be happy to kick the butts of your two meatheads here.” Animal: “Put the belts on the line, big mouth!” Jaggers: “Done, bring your A-game boys, you are in for a good old fashioned fight!” With that the tag champions walk off. Ellering says, “We always bring our A-game, Jaywalkers. Something you, and that powderpuff, Jimmy Brunzell will learn Sunday night!” BREAK 1 =====0000===== Roger Kent recaps the Bob Backlund-Ken Patera feud over the USA Heavyweight Title. This brings out Johnny Valiant again, this time with only Ken Patera. Kent says due to the controversial decisions that have been handed down, this match will have two referees. Patera says he doesn’t care if it has a hundred referees, nothing is going to stop him from winning the USA Title. As Valiant and Patera walk off they start arguing with USA Heavyweight Champion, Bob Backlund in the ring. Only words are exchanged as the villains walk off. MATCH 2 – BOB BACKLUND def. SONNY ROGERS in 6:51 with an Indian Death Lock. Bob Backlund comes to ringside with Gene Okerlund and says Ken Patera thinks he can intimidate everyone. Bob says while he is a soft spoken guy, he is intimidated by no one and is more than happy to humble Patera any chance he gets. Backlund is joined by the High Flyers, Jimmy Brunzell and Greg Gagne. Gagne and Backlund shake hands and Greg wishes Backlund luck against Patera. Backlund says that means a lot considering what they have been through recently. Brunzell has a few words for Heartland Champion Paul Ellering. He said it looks like his Doomday buddies will have their hands full and that will leave Ellering to face him one on one. BREAK 2 ========================0000=========== Sheik Adnan El Kassiee and The Sheik come out and tell Roger Kent they have “destroyed” Andre the Giant! Kent says he knows about the incident that took place recently in Las Vegas and they have video of it. Adnan gleefully tells Kent, “Yes, show the video of our greatest triumph !” VTR from American West Championship Wrestling from Las Vegas: When Andre comes back in, Adnan has been tagged back in and the Giant picks up where he left off. Adnan is able to rake the eyes of Andre then he motions to The Sheik who nods. Brody sees this and tries to rush the ring but he is stopped by the referee. With the referee’s back turned, Adnan and The Sheik DOUBLE fireball Andre. “ARRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” Andre yells as he falls to the mat. The Sheiks start to stomp The Giant as Brody shoves the referee out of the ring, and attacks both Sheiks. “MY EYES!!!!!!!!!!” Andre yells as the crowd goes silent and Brody chases the Champions from the ring. The referee goes over to Okerlund and tells him Bruiser Brody and Andre the Giant have been disqualified at 8:01 because Brody pushed the referee out of the ring. Okerlund cannot believe the decision but is more concerned about Andre in the ring holding his eyes. Wrestlers from the back come out to help Andre. Adnan: “Isnt it wonderful? The French Baboon is no more!” The Shiek gets on his knees and turns to the East and does something that resembles prayer. Kent says The Sheik is scheduled to face Andre one on one Sunday night at The Night of Champions at the UIC Pavilion. He adds they have a tape from Andre after the incident and before he went to the hospital. Kent tells Adnan and The Sheik they might not like what they see. Adnan quips, “But we can at least see! BWAHAHAHAHA” VTR of Andre the Giant, with his face in bandages and his eyes heavily bandages with the American West Championship Wrestling logo in the background. “Sheik! I don’t care if I can see or not, I will be in Chicago on December second! All I need to do is grab you with one hand and I can squeeze the life out of you, Shiek! Shiek, you and Adnan, will pay for what you have done to me! I can promise you that. No one can hide from The Giant!” “Ha ha ha ha! Hide from you!!! The goof is trying to be a comedian,” Adnan tells Kent. Kent says there is nothing funny in Andre’s words and he thinks The Giant is deadly serious. “The Sheik will finally put The French Idiot out of his misery and ours, Sunday December 2nd!” Adnan says as he and The Sheik leave ringside. MATCH 3 – DOOMSDAY: ANIMAL & KONGA def GENE LIGON & FRANK MONTE in 3:10 when Konga pins Ligon. Roger Kent says the Night of Champions is turning out to be a big event and says we have heard that the Ragin Bull, Manny Fernandez will be involved in the Main Event. Manny comes out and he is all smiles. The former International Champion says the Night of Champions will be remembered as the night “The Ragin’ Bull won the AWA World Title and retired Wahoo McDaniel.” Fernandez says he use to respect Wahoo but no more. Kent reminds Fernandez and tells the fans the two have had a recent altercation. VTR: American West Championship Wrestling: JULES STRONGBOW def MANNY FERNANDEZ by disqualification at 7:15 when Fernandez wouldn’t stop choking Strongbow along the bottom rope after a hot match between the two. AWA World Champion Wahoo McDaniel came out and attacked Fernandez to get him off of Strongbow. Fernandez and Wahoo fought for several minutes until Wahoo busted Fernandez open with a chop to the head and Manny left the ring. Manny says he can spill blood and fight with the best of them. He adds Wahoo is a tired old man and it’s time for him to go home to the reservation. MATCH 4 – AWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion TIGER MASK def RICKY RICKARD at 8:57 in a thriller of a match. Non-Title. Mask is being interviewed by Gene Okerlund when Jimmy Holiday shows up with Kevin Kelly and USA Junior Heavyweight Champion Tim Horner. Holiday says we don’t need “to listen to Tony the Tiger massacre the American language!” Holiday says, “The fact is this masked clown is a fraud. Sure he looked impressive a few minutes ago, but who the heck is Richie Ricky? Now when he gets in the ring against Lightning Tim Horner, he will lose and this “Japanese Superstar” will go the way of the transistor radio.” Kelly and Horner are laughing seemingly unaware while Mask doesn’t speak English very well, he understands it fluently. Mask then goes back into the ring and motions for them to join him. Horner and Kelly look at each other and smile. They get up on the ring apron as Holiday stays on the floor. Kelly puts his hands on the top ring ropes. BIG MISTAKE! Tiger Mask whips the ropes bringing Kelly over the top rope and landing the bigger man solidly on his butt. Horner looks stunned! Tiger looks at Horner who just stands there. Then Mask topples Kelly over on his back with a quick leg scissors. Kelly gets to his feet fast as he is angry now. As he charges Mask, Mask drops him with a leg takedown then, leaps with both feet landing on Kelly’s upper shoulders driving his face into the mat. Horner is speechless and doesn’t move as all this has taken place in a matter of seconds. When Kelly tries to get up again, Mask snares him in a hurricanrana and sends him out of the ring over to where his stunned manager is standing. Mask leaves the ring saying a small sentence to Horner, “See you Sunday!” Horner wide eyed and standing on the ring apron, just witnessed his larger tag team partner get handled by someone who weighed 100 plus pounds less, seemed to be thinking, “What have I gotten myself into?” BREAK 4 =====0000============ Bad Bad LeRoy Brown comes out and says Larry Zbyszko has been using every trick in the book to retain his American Television Title. Brown says he respects Andre the Giant, but doesn’t need anyone’s help to beat “a punk like Zbyszko. All it’s gonna take is my ‘Chicago Way’ clothesline and that’s gonna be all she wrote for Larry Zbyszko.!” AWA World Champion Wahoo McDaniel joins Roger Kent and the host asks him about facing Manny Fernandez at the Night of Champions, December 2nd. McDaniel: “I know Fernandez was the International Champion for a month or so, but I don’t know how he got a title shot against me so quickly, but it doesn’t matter. Fernandez, I don’t like you and you can brag all you want, but you know as well as I do and all these people know, you are nothing more than a thug. Careful what you wish for Fernandez, cause you are going to get exactly what you are asking for.” MATCH 5 – WAHOO MCDANIEL def LARRY SHARPE in 7:07 with a suplex and a chop to the forehead. After the match, Manny Fernandez storms the ring and blindsides the world champion. Wahoo never has a chance as Fernandez relentlessly attacks him busting him open. Preliminary wrestlers charge the ring, but Manny fights them off and continues to pound on the bloody Champion as the show goes off the air. BREAK 3 ============000==================== AWA USA Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund joins Trongard after the break. He says Ken Patera is a great athlete but what makes him dangerous is his manager Johnny Valiant and his rulebreaker mentality. He says he doesn’t have to cheat to win and knows he can turn Patera back. MATCH 4 – JULES STRONGBOW def SONNY ROGERS in 8:00. Strongbow tells Roger Kent, there is a lot going on in the Heartland. He says he hasn’t forgotten how Valiant, Adonis and Ventura broke the leg of his brother, Chief Jay Strongbow and vows revenge. BREAK 4 ========00000===================== American Television Champion Larry Zbyszko is already in the ring with his manager, Johnny Valiant awaiting their match. “The Axe” Larry Hennig comes to ringside and says he seems to be having problems with his left arm and says his doctor says he shouldn’t wrestle. Trongard says he has a match against for the Television Title. Hennig says he knows, but he says he found a suitable replacement. “C’mon out here, LeRoy!” Henning hollars as the fans cheer. LeRoy Brown comes out as Larry Zbyszko and Johnny Valiant go crazy in the ring. “Damned shame about your arm, Larry,” Brown says trying not smile. Hennig bends his arm: “Yeah, I know, it hurts when I do this. “ Brown, without missing a beat, says, “Then don’t do that!” Both men are now trying not to laugh. Two men who are not laughing are Larry Zbyszko and Johnny Valiant. Valiant jumps out of the ring and protests to Trongard about what is going on. “I want a ruling from someone higher on the food chain! They can’t do this, Hennig signed the contract and he needs to honor it, hurt arm and all.” Hennig extends his right arm, just short of Valiant’s nose and says, “Well, it seems my right arm is working okay!” Heartland VP Buddy Rogers comes out and looks unhappy about what is transpiring. He says, the doctor’s excuse is legit, and reminds Valiant, Larry Zbyszko got out of a match with nearly the same reasons a few weeks ago.
