NWA MACW 12/11/82  Man, that's gotta hurt!
Dec 17th, 2012, 3:53pm

NWA Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling 12 11 82 – Taped at WRAL Channel 5 in Raleigh, NC for syndication throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and parts of Tennessee and Ohio. Hosts: Bob Caudle and David Crockett.

James J. Dillon comes out with the massive Hulk Hogan and says he has an announcement he is sure will please all the fans. He says “Dillon Enterprises” is consolidating it’s efforts. He then brings in whom he calls the “Hundred Thousand Dollar Man” Dory Funk, Jr. and the “Baddest man ever from Texas, Cowboy Bobby Duncum!”  He says they have united to claim “ownership of the Mid-Atlantic area and soon the world.”

Bobby Duncum: “I want that slob Dusty Rhodes. I don’t like Dusty Rhodes, J.J. doesn’t like Dusty Rhodes, Hell, nobody likes Dusty Rhodes! I want that world title. Dusty Rhodes is scared of me. He better be scared of me…Heck, he’s probably hiding somewhere….”

Caudle:  “No, he’s here today. Dusty Rhodes is here today. He’s going to pick up his MidAtlantic Wrestling Wrestler of the Year award today!”

Duncum: “Rassler of the what?”

Caudle: “Wrestler of the year.”

Duncum: “Dang gum, I heard ya the first time, Bob Caudle! I’ll show him who’s rassler of the year!”

Duncum walks off and Dillon brings Dory Funk, Jr. over to Caudle. Dory says many men have tried to beat him in ten minutes for the money, but all have failed. He says JJ has told him, he doesn’t ever have to worry about losing the money.

Hogan comes over dressed in a golden cape.

“How do you like seeing the greatest and best looking wrestler in the world, Mr. Bob Caudle? Am I not the greatest looking specimen you have ever seen in your life? Now, who do you think should be champion, me or that wallflower with the cheesy Magnum PI moustache, Terry Allen. I am a certified Hollywood Star. I am the reason Rocky III was the hit it was this summer, me, The Incredible Hulk Hogan. Isn’t that right JJ?”

Dillon agreeing, nods his head.

Hogan: “I want that scrimp Terry Allen and I want his US Title. And maybe when I am done with him, if anything is left of that whale Dusty Rhodes when The Cowboy is done with him, maybe I’ll finish him off too. “

David Crockett gleefully chimes in saying there is someone else who wants a title shot at Allen and he might be the toughest wrestler in the world!

Hogan: “There is no one greater, tougher and better looking than me in the ring. No one! Whoever this imposter is will learn the wrath of The Incredible One!!!!”

Crockett: “Oh we’ll hear from him later in the show and he’s no imposter I can assure you of that!”

MATCH 1 – GINO HERNANDEZ & JIMMY GARVIN defeat CHRIS HAMMERICK & JACK VENENO in 4:02

The NWA World Tag Team Champions, Gino Hernandez and Jimmy Garvin come to Bob Caudle at ringside and rant and rave about how they are the greatest tag team in the world.  Garvin says “Ricky Footnote and Jay Silverheels have no chance against them.” This brings out Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood. Steamboat challenges the two to a match next week on television. Hernandez and Garvin laugh off the request until Jay Youngblood insults the champions by questioning their guts and masculinity. Hernandez without hesitation agrees to the match, Garvin chimes in, it’s a nontitle match.

BREAK 1 =================0000=================================

US Heavyweight Champion Magnum Terry Allen comes out and he is joined by Ricky Steamboat, Jay Youngblood and Mark Youngblood.

Allen says he doesn’t care who it is. He will defend the United States Title against anyone. Rick Steamboat chimes in saying he understands what it means to win such a prestigious belt early in one’s career. He says the same thing happened to him a few years ago and everybody was gunning for him. He advises Allen that win, lose or draw, he IS the United States Champion and no one can ever diminish that accomplishment and says he thinks it’s the first of many important accomplishments he will achieve in his career.  Allen thanks Steamboat for the advice and shakes hands with him.

Jay Youngblood says Hernandez and Garvin are overlooking them and that would be a mistake. He says next week will prove that.

Mark Youngblood says he knows he can beat Dory Funk, Jr. in ten minutes. He says he knows he was unsuccessful in his last bid but he now knows a counter to the spinning toe hold that will ensure his victory.

MATCH 2 – MARK YOUNGBLOOD defeats JOEL DEATON with a suplex into a bridge at 6:12.

NWA World Heavyweight Champion Dusty Rhodes comes out dressed in a nice western style suit and a cowboy hat. He is accompanied by his 13 year old son, Dustin. Caudle says the tall athletically built Dustin reminds him of Dusty when he was younger and hears Dustin is quite an athlete like his father. Dusty says he is very proud of his son saying, “He’s growing up to be a good man. I know it’s hard for him or any teenager to be away from a parent for long stretches but, I wanted him to see that the hard work pays off not just in titles and money, but in respect and love from the fans. “

David Crockett: “That’s exactly right Dusty and with that in mind, NWA Representative Sandy Scott is here with an announcement.”

Scott: “Dusty, it is my pleasure to present to you this plaque naming you as Mid Atlantic Wrestler of the Year as voted on by the fans around the area. Also we’d like to give you this 11x17 wood framed picture of you with the NWA Heavyweight Belt as our way of saying thanks for all you’ve done for us.”

The fans cheer, as Dusty smiles and accepts the award. Out comes Bobby Duncum and JJ Dillon.

Duncum: “Well, if it ain’t Mr. NWA World Champeen himself. Howya doin’, Virgil?”

Dillon: “Oh I would say he is doing mighty fine: A world champion. Wrestler of the year. And, even brought out his boy, to help him celebrate. Mighty fine indeed!”

Rhodes: “Bobby D, we go back a long way…a long way. Not all of them were good days. Now I don’t know what kind of trouble you are thinking, but you two leave him (pointing to Dustin) out of it.”

Duncum: “You’ve got me all wrong, Dust. I just wanted to see if the boy was as dumb as you look!”

Duncum then snatches the wood framed picture from Dustin’s hands. Dustin flinches, but Dusty motions him to stay back.

“It’s okay Son. Bobby D, I am warning you, you are treading on ground that is not going to end well!”

Duncum: “You’re right, Rhodes. This isn’t going to end well!!!!”

CRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Duncum smashes the picture over Rhodes’ head shattering the glass and breaking the wooden frame! Dusty bends over and looks like he’ll recover until he is bashed by Duncum again with part of the wooden frame.

“Daddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd!” Dustin cries out as he looks to jump in and help his father, but the youth is held back by Scott and Crockett. The attack continues.

Duncum and Dillon stomps Dusty as wood pieces and glass are all over the place. Duncum raises Dusty’s bloody face and shows it to Dustin…”See your Daddy now, Boy!”  Then he belts him in the head with another piece of wood.

TV Cameras do fast cuts and moves to try and not show Dusty’s face on camera.

Dillon takes Dusty’s cowboy hat and wipes the sweat off his brow then rubs it in Rhodes’ face staining it with blood before he and Duncum tear it apart while still kicking Rhodes.

Dillion throws the hat at Dustin and says…”Your Daddy is finished!”

Duncum moves menacingly towards Dustin.

“DON’T TOUCH MY BOY!!!!!” Dusty jumps at Duncum and pushes him away from Dustin. But the numbers are against him as Duncum and Dillon beat on him again. Magnum Terry Allen along with Mike Rotundo and Paul Jones come out and chase Dillon and Duncum away.

BREAK 2 ==========00000=======================

Sandy Scott is still with Bob Caudle and David Crockett after the break. Scott says Dusty is in the back getting medical treatment and he says Duncum has been escorted out of the building.

Crockett says there is another situation that needs to be addressed. Scott says, “Yes, another man is vying for Magnum Terry Allen’s US Heavyweight Title.”

Crockett: “Yes and he is all man, I’m talking about no other than former United States Champion and NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Harley Race.”

Caudle throws it to a video tape of Harley Race with the Championship Wrestling from Florida logo in the background.
“It is no secret who I am. It is no secret that it was Terry Allen who beat me to win the United States Heavyweight Title. I want my rematch and I want it now! You officials in the Mid Atlantic, need to make this happen. I don’t care what anyone else says, I am Harley Race. I am the man who will defeat this punk, Terry Allen. And I will defeat him soon!”

When the tape ends Caudle tells Crockett and Scott that Race sounds “very determined”.

Scott then offers a solution. He says on December 20, at the Norfolk Scope. Harley Race will face Hulk Hogan to determine the number one contender’s position for the United States Heavyweight Title. The winner will face Terry Allen on Monday Night, December 31st in Chattanooga.

Caudle throws it to the ring for the next match and he says it’s should be a wild non-title six man tag team match:

MATCH 3 --- JUMBO TSURUTA, KAMALA & THE GREAT KUBUKI, w/Freddie Blassie (six man tag team champions) versus KOKO B WARE, GEORGE WELLS & BRICKHOUSE BROWN.

 The champions isolate Brown and double team him throughout most of the match. Ware is eventually tagged in and gets the upperhand on Kubuki.  In the end, at 7:34 it’s Wells with a beautiful sunset flip off the top turnbuckles onto Tsuruta for the pin as his partners are unable to make it in the ring in time to break up the pin.

The crowd cheers as the three victorious fan favorites make it out of the ring quickly and to the back. Freddie Blassie is disgusted with his charges. Tsuruta looks at Kubuki as if to say, “Where were you?”

Kamala doesn’t seem fazed by the loss as Blassie goes over to David Crockett.

Crockett: “What happened, Blassie? I thought your men could handle a bunch of pencil necked geeks ?”

Blassie: “Shut up Crockett! And it’s MISTER Blassie to you, Geek!”

Tsuruta comes over holding the six man belt and pushes it in Blassie’s chest. Without saying a word he walks off!

Blassie: “Well, if that doesn’t beat all!”

Crockett:  “It’s all falling apart, Blassie!”

Blassie: “I don’t need this crap! I was warned, you come south and everyone plays by their own rules. Well, I’ve been thrown out of better joints than this I can assure you. I don’t need this.”

 He looks at the Great Kubuki and Kamala, then says.

“What the hell was I thinking?”

Pointing at his two remaining charges he says, “ You’re fired!!! And I quit!”

BREAK 3 ================000000==============================

Sandy Scott comes back out and says Dusty Rhodes has left the building. He says the World Champion didn’t say much before he left, only that he would be back next week.

He says the issue with the six man tag team title is a problem he is going to deal with swiftly. He invites Koko B. Ware, Brickhouse Brown and George Wells to come out.  He says he knows the three wanted a shot at the six man title but there are only two members of that three member team left. Scott says he has decided to put the title on hiatus for now, but says in Norfolk on the 20th there will be a four team tournament to receive a shot against Johnny Weaver and Nelson Royal for the MidAtlantic Tag Team Titles on December 31st. Scott says they have to decide which two members they want to team up.

The three talk amongst themselves for only a few seconds until Wells blurts out, “Koko and Brickhouse will team in Norfolk!”  Ware and Brown are a bit stunned at first but nod in agreement.

Scott says good, then he is joined by Mid Atlantic Television Champion Mike Rotundo. Scott says Mike has graciously agreed to put his belt on the line December 31st in Chattanooga against the odd man out. Scott says in this case, it’s George. Wells and Rotundo shake hands.

Bob Caudle throws it to the ring…

Mid Atlantic Television Title Match:
MATCH 4 – MIKE ROTUNDO defeats JOHNNY SAINT in a grinding on the mat match in 7:01.

One half of the Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions, Nelson Royal comes out. David Crockett asks him where is his partner, Johnny Weaver ? Royal says he doesn’t know and doesn’t care as long as he shows up to defend the tag team belts. He says Sandy Scott can have all the tournaments he wants to determine the number one contenders to the Mid Atlantic Titles, but it will do no good. Royal says he is the toughest wrestler around and will bulldog anyone who stands in his way.

BREAK 4 ======================00000============================

Hacksaw Jim Duggan says he knows just how underhanded the Mid Atlantic Champion, The Iron Sheik can be. He says in today’s main event, he will be ready and says if he beats The Sheik today on television he has been assured of a title match against him in the future.

Television Main Event:
Non-Title Match:
MATCH 5 – THE IRON SHIEK defeats HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN in 9:33 using a foreign object to knock Duggan out to get the win.

Crockett confronts The Iron Sheik about the controversial win.

Sheik: “Are you trying to say The Sheik cheated. The Sheik doesn’t need to cheat against stupid American Wrestlers. I am not from the Sudan, I am not from Russia, I am not from New York City, I don’t need to cheat. I am from Tehran, Iran! I am superior to all, even you ahDavid Crockett and you ahBob Caudle. No one dares face the Sheik and expects to win, they will all end up like this ahHackcough Duggan! I am the Iron Sheik, number one!”

Caudle: “That’s all for this week folks. Join us next week, and so long for now!”

END OF SHOW =================0000==========================================

I have left the flagship in great hands.  My thoughts were Hogan would make a great heel, that Mid Atlantic Fans couldn't stand him with the smarmy Dillon.  Can't wait to see where you take us.  Great job.

Blassie flies the coup and Weaver isn't around with the cocky attitude of Royal. Things are changing. One of the most compelling promos i have ever read with Duncum and Dusty. Don't touch my son!!! Priceless! I will be watching the Wells situation. Pulling for Race against Hogan.

Great stuff, Carl.

The Rhodes angle was a classic. The Hogan/Race/TA angle intrigues me. Mid Atlantic is a must read these days.

Fantastic TV!  Dusty/Dustin/Duncum was awesome...Hogan/Race in '83 is a good match-up...The Blassie segment was also great...I'm watching Wells close....I wonder where Weaver was?  Sheiky looked great...Tremendous work Carl!
