GCW TV: 12/15/82 Bass Has No Ring of Honor
Dec 18th, 2012, 7:37pm

"GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING"
TAPED: SATURDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 15, 1982 @ 10 AM
WTBS -TV STUDIOS ATLANTA, GEORGIA
BROADCAST: SATURDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 15, 1982 @ 6:05-8:05

ANNOUNCERS: JIM ROSS, RICH LANDRUM, FREDDIE MILLER
REFEREE: NICK PATRICK

Ross and Landrum welcome the fans to the show. Ross says that the show will be 90 minutes today, due to WTBS Sports coverage of the Independence Bowl between Wisconsin and Kansas State.

Gene, Ole, and Arn Anderson are out. They, begrudgingly, watch a clip of last week’s loss to Jack and Jerry Brisco, where the National Tag Team titles changed hands.  Arn makes reference to Ross being overly excited during the re-cap about two boys from Oklahoma winning. Ole calms him down. When the clip is finished, Ole acknowledges that the AWA World Tag Title shot for Christmas Nigh is set in stone. Ventura and Adonis will face The Briscos on Christmas Night at the Omni. Ole proposes a match for Marietta on December 27.

The Briscos think they are tough, tough wrestlers. Let’s see just how tough they are. Ole suggests a NO-DQ, NO TIME LIMIT match. Belts are on the line. Arn says that something will be broken: spirits or bones. He wants it to start today. People have compared Arn to Jerry Brisco earlier in his career. Arn hates that comparison. He tells Landrum he wants to shove it down Brisco’s throat today. Ross says he knows that the champs will jump on that. Ole says for Ross not to get too used to referring to those chumps as champs. The belts will be back home before long.

Ross says that Paul Orndorff, who wants to be known as “The Total Package”, is next.

*”The Total Package” Paul Orndorff defeats Wayne Bridges with a piledriver @ 6:00.

Orndorff meets Landrum at ringside. He says he saw Tony Atlas out here last week with that Rainbow Man wig. He is being forced to wrestle the “Loser Wears the Wig for 30 Days” match. Atlas doesn’t have near enough ammunition to turn his mind games back on him. He makes the point that the Mickey Mouse watch and sunglasses was to prove that Tony Atlas is to The Total Package like Saturday morning is to prime time television. It’s cute but everybody knows where the money is.

Orndorff pulls out a Marilyn Monroe wig from under the desk. He throws it toward the camera. Atlas, this will be between just you and me. This crap may appeal to some but not to him. Orndorff says that the thing that floats his boat will be hearing that big pig squeal. Looking at the camera, “The Package” vows to make it happen.

Wendell Cooley gears up for the National TV Title Tournament next.

COMMERCIALS AND LOCAL PROMO

*Wendell Cooley defeats Gary Young with a superkick @ 5:32.

Cooley speaks with Landrum at ringside. They view a clip from a match in Gainesville. Cooley, Sweet Brown Sugar, and Steve Olsonoski are laid out with a chain after a six man win against The Midnight Express. Cooley says that these are the tactics that guys like the ME has to use when circumstances are all even. Some fans think he is “too good” to deal with it but he knows better. Cooley talks about The Omni Christmas TV Tourney. He says he knows that Austin has a hard head but rumors are he has a glass jaw. His superkick will verify that.

The National Television Champion is up next.
.
.

*Masked Superstar defeats El Rayo in a battle of masked men. Rayo misses a corner splash. The champ locks on a cobra clutch for the win @ 5:12.

MS has barely started an interview with Jim Ross, when he is attacked by Ernie Ladd, Ray Candy, and Sir Oliver Humperdink. Candy runs ‘Star, back first, into the ring apron. Ladd and Humperdink get the laces of the mask undone and are, actually, able to get the mask off. Mr. Wrestling II has come out with a towel and covers Superstar’s head.  Cooley and The Oates Brothers run the heels off.

With the towel over his face and II by his side, a focused Superstar addresses the attack. He says that he and II have beaten each other silly and don’t go out for dinner after any matches. Still, they are bonded by how much their masks mean to them. He tells Ladd he doesn’t know what he has done. Taking his mask off here on TV has elevated the intensity to a level he can’t possibly want. The champ challenges Ladd to a match in Marietta on December 27. If he loses to Ladd, Superstar will unmask in the ring. If Ladd loses,,, Superstar pauses. ERNIE LADD LEAVES GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING.

The crowd roars and Ross says that the stakes for that one would, indeed, be high.  “The Voice Of Georgia” is next.

THE VOICE OF GEORGIA
HOSTED BY: “THE VOICE” RICH LANDRUM
Superstar Billy Graham comes out with a wooden box. He says that one of the perks of being a wrestler with Georgia Championship Wrestling is that they get a lot of exposure with WTBS. Fans from all over the country see us do our thing. He has been in touch with a young fan from Oakland, California. Bill Andreas is 10 years old and has been battling health concerns. Landrum reads a letter from Andreas, where the young man says he will be a champion, one day, like his hero Billy Graham.

Graham shakes his head up and down. He says that is why he does all this. Landrum says that Andreas is receiving some treatment here in Atlanta. He is in the studio today. Little Bill comes out and hugs his hero. Graham says a lot of fans don’t know but he played football in the AFL with the Oakland Raiders, Andreas’ favorite team. Graham takes out two rings from the box. They have the logo of the Raiders on them. He gives one to Andreas and puts one his hand. They pose for the camera and Andreas looks happy. Ron Bass blindsides Graham. He takes the ring off Graham. He yells at the little fella and demands his ring, as well. Andreas, with tears in his eyes, complies. Bass hoots and leaves. Andreas checks on his hero, as Landrum calls for a commercial.

*Ted/Jerry Oates defeat Butch Beckler/Barry Horowitz when Beckler is driven hard to the canvas by a Ted Oates butterfly suplex @ 6:02.

The winners talk with Ross at the desk. They say that, with The Briscos now being National Tag Champs, the fans have guys they can be proud of. Jerry knows shots will come for them and they will be patient. Kurt Von Hess and Karl Von Shotz come out. Kurt says they don’t have time to sit back and let things come back to them. Humperdink wants winners. They will do whatever it takes. Ted says how about jumping next week. Ross manages to defuse the situation and points to next week. Tag rankings are shaking up here in GCW, for sure.

A top challenger for the TV belt, Sweet Brown Sugar is next.

*Sweet Brown Sugar defeats Charlie Cook in a scientific match. Sugar rolls Cook’s shoulders down with a top rope sunset flip @ 6:44.

Sugar is in hallelujah mode for his promo, in the ring, with Landrum. He says that the beating in Gainesville that the fans saw earlier left the mask he was wearing bloody. Sugar pulls the crimson mask from under the ring. He says as long as he has breath and blood in his body, he will give his all to putting that TV strap around his waist. He points to the fans and says they can count on it.

Ross says the main event is next.

Skip Caray, the Braves announcer who will do play-by-play for tonight’s Independence Bowl, says he always pulls for a Brisco. Caray encourages the fans to stay tuned for college bowl action after the wrestling.

*Jerry Brisco defeats Arn Anderson w/Ole and Gene Anderson when Jerry counters a face first suplex attempt into a backslide @ 8:24.

Jack was out for commentary and says the Andersons were beaten by “wrestling” today and that has to stick in their crawl. Ole and Gene attack Jerry after the loss. Jack and Arn join in. During the melee, gene is run into a post. He grabs his right shoulder and the clan leaves. The crowd shows their approval.

Ross and Landrum sign off.

-A promo closes out the program. Roddy Piper is shown standing outside the Minnesota offices of AWA President Verne Gagne. Piper says this isn’t his way but he is tired of having to look over his shoulder at George Scott. This interference will stop and the Hot rod will dominate when it is all over.

Nice touch with the Skip Carey promo. I really like how you have Sweebs coming along. The Christmas Television Title tourny looks like it could be stacked full of talent. The Oates boys just fit perfectly. Face or heel, it works.

Nice play on the mask deal. Ernie Ladd is in a world of trouble.

Paul Orndorff and Tony Atlas! Actually from what I hear, Orndorff shouldve pulled out a plastic foot or something. J/K. lol

Andersons and Briscos. I like what you've done with this feud. The Andersons are double tough and while Arn is VERY young at this point...it works.

Great show as always!!!

Great TV...Poor Skip must be drinking heavier than Harry seeing that the bowl he is covering is the California Raisin Bowl from Fresno, it didn't become the Las Vegas Bowl until '92. I know, shut up Mike and quit nitpicking...You are keeping the Anderson/Brisco feud fresh and exciting...Orndorff/Atlas keeps getting better...HOH picked the wrong men to mess with in Superstar and II...OK, kids need to stay off of wrestling TV.  First Dustin in MACW, now lil Billy.  I guess Cowboys hate kids...Ted & Jerry are always a threat to any tag scene...I wonder what Piper is doing at the AWA offices?  Great stuff Johnny!
