“Portland Wrestling”
Sports Arena
Portland, OR
12/22/82

Don Coss and Dutch Savage open the show from the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “We seem to say this every week these days, but there is excitement in the air tonight. Dutch, what a show we have for the fans.”

Savage, “That's right Don. Wrestling in the Northwest is at it's highest level ring now. This six man tag team match is just another example of how Don Owen treats the fans in the Northwest. This match could be a main event in Madison Square Garden, the Omni, the Superdome, but it's on TV in the Northwest.”

Coss, “The match we are talking about is our main event tonight, a six man tag team match that features Harley Race, 'Playboy' Buddy Rose and Rip Oliver vs. Andre the Giant, 'Superfly' Jimmy Snuka and the NWA World Champion, the 'American Dream' Dusty Rhodes. What a match! We have a special stipulation concerning this match. Most of our main events are two out of three falls, this one will be one fall to a finish. We want to make sure there is a winner. Don Owen wanted the fans to see a finish. Now let's talk about Christmas night. The promoter in Seattle, my partner Dutch Savage, has signed a giant card for next Tuesday. We will talk about it as the night goes on, but Dutch has an announcement about a tag team returning to the Northwest.”

Savage, “A couple of years ago, a tag team came in here and wrecked havoc in this area. That was the New Zealand Sheepherders. These two wildmen, Butch Miller and Luke Williams, are returning to the area will be on the card in Seattle. They will take on the tag team of Billy White Cloud and Joe Lightfoot.”

Coss, “Just one more great match for the fans in Seattle. Let's go to the ring and see While Cloud and Lightfoot in action.”

Match #1
Billy White Cloud and Joe Lightfoot def. Caveman Broda and Moondog Morreti, Lightfoot w/Indian deathlock vs. Broda

Billy Jack and Stan Stasiak are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With me are the two men who will challenge for the Northwest Tag Team Titles on Christmas night. Billy Jack and Stan 'Crusher' Stasiak, meet 'Playboy' Buddy Rose and Ed Wiskoski. It's been a long time coming, but it's just a few days away.”

BJ, “It's about time! Stan and I are ready, those two have ducked us for too long. The fans in the Northwest have supported and we won't let them down!”

Stasiak, “You know something Don, and Dutch, I've tried to temper Billy's excitement, but now that it's just a few days until we get our chance, I'm as excited as he is! I've known Rose and Wiskoksi for a long time. They're sneaky and underhanded and you know they have a plan, it doesn't matter. Billy and I are ready for anything! We're walked out of the Coliseum with the titles, I promise you that!

Coss, “This is the match we've been waiting for. Now let's see Billy Jack in action.”

Match #2
Billy Jack def. Rick Hunter, w/Full Nelson

“Playboy” Buddy Rose and his army are in the Crow's Nest. Harley Race is with them.

Coss, “With us are the Army and Harley Race. Gentlemen, you have a big match tonight and big matches in Seattle on Christmas night.”

Rose, “Don Owen, and Dutch Savage hate me and they hate Harley. Harley came here to beat that fat hog, Dusty Rhodes, and take his World Title, but Owen wants Rhodes, Snuka and Andre to soften him up tonight. They want Ed and I to lose the tag titles and they want Snuka to beat Rip for the Northwest Title. They think they have a perfect plan. They think they have a plan, but you have the smartest men in wrestling right here. I've controlled the Northwest for a long time and Harley's been World Champion several times. We have a plan and you're going to see the first part of it tonight. Tell 'em Harley.”

Race, “Rhodes, you've got the fans on your side, you've got Savage and Owen on your side, and that's the way I like it. I like beating the odds. This is what I've been waiting for, a shot you Rhodes, and not in Tampa, Charlotte, or Miami, out in the West where you're not so comfortable. I've going to leave just enough of you after tonight, so I can take you apart on Christmas!”

Coss, “Well those are some strong words by all involved. It's going to be a great main event. Now let's see the Assassin in action.”

Match #3
The Assassin w/”Playboy” Buddy Rose def. Steve Pardee, w/Piledriver

Dusty Rhodes, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and Andre the Giant are in the Crow's Nest.

Coss, “With us are a group of men who need some type of nickname, 'America's Team', the 'Untouchables', or something like that. Let's start with Jimmy Snuka. Jimmy we know you want a shot at Rip Oliver and the Northwest Title. You'll get two chances at him, but not for the title.”

Snuka, “Bruddah, Oliver is a coward. All he has to do is wrestle me, one on one. Be a man and put the title on the line. I'll take it from you!”

Coss, “We'd all like to see that match. Now on to the World Champion. Dusty, Harley Race followed you to the Northwest. He gets a shot at your title on Christmas night, but he thinks he might soften you up first.”

Rhodes, “Harley Race, you are one tough monkey, but you ain't the 'American Dream'! You had the title, but now it's mine, and I'm keeping it. Look at this team, Andre the Giant, Jimmy Snuka, Rose and his Army, are in big trouble!”

Coss, “Andre, do you have anything you want to add?”

Andre, “No talking, just fighting!”

Coss, “Let's go to the ring.”

Match #4
Christopher Colt def. Pat McGinnis, w/Elbow Drop

Coss, “Our main event is next.”

Main Event
Six Man Tag Team Match
“Playboy” Buddy Rose, Rip Oliver and Harley Race vs. “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and Andre the Giant

Don Owen does the introductions.

Owen, “This three sided team match may be one of the biggest matches we've had on TV for a long time. You fans have supported us so well, I wanted to give you an early Christmas present.”

The bell rings and it's Race and Snuka in the ring. “Superfly” gets the better of the man from Kansas City and Race tries to tag in Oliver. Rip refuses and Rose tags in. The “Playboy” fares not better. Snuka tags in Rhodes and the World Champion goes to work on the man from Las Vegas. Rose tags in Race and this is what the world has been waiting for, Rhodes vs. Race. Both men lock eyes and neither man moves. They lock up and proceed to battle in out. Things go back and forth until Rhodes grabs a side headlock and tags in Andre the Giant. The big man from France goes to work. The match goes back and forth and is a knock-down-drag-out affair. The end comes with Race and Rhodes brawling on the floor, Andre working over Buddy Rose in one corner, and the legal men, Oliver and Snuka in the middle of the ring. Snuka slams Oliver and climbs to the top rope. He hits the Superfly Splash and referee Sandy Barr counts the fall. What a match!
Winners-Dusty Rhodes, Jimmy Snuka and Andre the Giant

Don Coss and Dutch Savage close the show.

Coss, “Partner, what a match!”

Savage, “You can say that again. This leads right into Christmas and the big show in Seattle.”

Coss, “Remember here is what you will see,

The Sheepherders return to the Northwest

Andre the Giant and Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka meet Rip Oliver and the Assassin

Dusty Rhodes defends the NWA World Title against Harley Race

and in the main event, Stan Stasiak and Billy Jack challenge Buddy Rose and Ed Wiskoski for the Northwest Tag Team Titles,
don't miss the action at the Center Coliseum in Seattle on Christmas Night!”

The card for Seattle looks huge. Great six-man match and I love the promos that went with it. That match topping any card was not shill, at all. Pulling for BJ and Stasiak. Can't wait for The Kiwis, as well.
