Southwest TV 12-22-82
Dec 22nd, 2012, 8:37pm

Southwest Championship Wrestling
2hr. TV Show on USA Network
Broadcast on Saturday Dec. 22, 1982
Taped Wednesday Dec. 19, 1982
at The Junction in San Antonio TX

Steve Stack welcomed everyone in to the show today, and said that we have quite the main event, as four of the seven tag teams competing in the tournament on Christmas night will be involved in an eight-man tag team match tonight!  Matchmaker Joe Blanchard will be here with a special announcement, and in action will be The Spoiler, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, Mil Mascaras, Tito Santana, Jose Lothario & Tully Blanchard, and a very special guest will be dropping by for an interview.  He then introduced the first match of the show.

Match:  Jose Lothartio & Tully Blanchard def. Dennis Stamp and Pat Rose at 11:05 in a tuneup match before the tournament for the Southwest Tag Titles coming up.  Jose and Tully each ran through their signature moves, but really showed no cohesiveness as a team.

Afterwards, they went to the podium and spoke to Steve.  Jose said they have a great opportunity in front of them on Tuesday night, and he feels that even though they haven't teamed, they are the most talented team in the field, and expects to bring home the gold.  Tully said that he shouldn't even be in this position, as he never lost the tag team belts in the first place.  He'll hold up his end though, and that should be enough to win it all.

Commercials

The Fabulous Blondes joined Steve for a promo, and are still livid that they were "tricked" into defending the belts against Tully and Blackjack.  They said for all the other teams in the tournament, there is nothing but pain, blues, and agony coming their way Christmas night.  They WILL once again be Southwest Tag Team Champions.  Right now, Ken is going to show Al Perez whats in store for everybody.

Match:  Al Perez w/ Ricky Romero def. Ken Timbs w/ Eric Embry via a schoolboy rollup at 8:30.  Embry and Romero got into it on the floor, and in the chaos, Perez rolled up Timbs for the victory.  Perez and Romero celebrated while the Blondes threw a temper tantrum.

Steve Stack ran down the show for Christmas night.....

7-Team Tournament for the vacant Southwest Tag Team Titles, with Jose Lothario & Tully Blanchard getting a first round bye.  Also in the tournament....The Fabulous Blondes, Hector & Mando Guerrero, The Fantastics, The Galaxians, Johnny Mantell & The Hangman, Al Perez & Ricky Romero

Southwest Heavyweight Champion, Blackjack Mulligan defends against the Spoiler.

Bruiser Brody vs. Abdullah the Butcher

Stack introduced a taped interview by Bruiser Brody, who says that he and Abdullah have fought all over the globe, but right here in San Antonio, he is gonna finish the fight once and for all.

Commercials

Steve Stack was joined by SWCW Matchmaker Joe Blanchard.  Joe said that for years, Southwest has had a Television champion, and it's time once again to crown on......so on Christmas night, a 15-Man Battle Royal will take place.  The last TWO men left standing, will come out here next week on tv and battle to see who gets the belt.
Stack was excited to hear that.  He then introduced the next match.

Match:  Tito Santana def. Magic Dragon with a flying forearm at about 6 min.  During the match, Stack talked about how he understands that Tito is entered in the TV Title Battle Royal, and he looks ready.

Hector & Mando Guerrero gave an interview about how they are ready to win the Southwest Tag Titles again on Christmas night.

Commercials

Match:  "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff def. Ted Petty with a piledriver at 4:00

Southwest Champion Blackjack Mulligan talked about finishing his business with The Spoiler on Christmas Night.  He also talked to Stack about why he chose to give up the Southwest Tag Team Belts.  He said that the Southwest Heavyweight Title is the most important belt in wrestling besides the World belt, and he knows that deep down, Tully Blanchard understands, and would have done the same thing.

Commercials

Stack interviewed the Fantastics, who say they have been here for a while now, and are ready to wrestle their hearts out and leave Christmas Night as the new Tag Team Champions.

Match:  Mil Mascaras def. Killer Karl Krupp with a cross body block from the top rope.

Commercials

Stack was joined by The Spoiler.  Spoiler said that on Christmas night, he was going to finish the job he started on Mulligan, and win the Southwest Heavyweight Title.  He said that when he slaps on his brain claw, it will all be over for Mulligan.

Match:  The Spoiler def. Mike Doggendorf with the brain claw.

After the match, Steve Stack welcomed in a very special visitor.....Santa Claus!  Santa was husky, but not very fat....but gave a very jolly laugh and asked Stack had he been good?  He then said that he had, what he feels, is a very nice gift for the fans in the Southwest.
Before he could say what it was, The Spoiler came over to interrrupt.  He told Santa to take a hike because he don't like Christmas.  Santa didn't budge though, so Spoiler said he was giving him to the cound of 3 to leave.  Santa just stared down Spoiler, so he started counting.   1............2.......Santa dropped his bag.........3!  Spoiler reared back to whack Santa, but Santa blocked it!  He then gave Spoiler several shots, and ran him to the ring.  He whipped Spoiler into the ropes and caught with with a flying double chop to the head that sent Spoiler through the ropes to the floor.  Santa was fired up, and so was the crowd!!!  Santa ripped off his coat, hat, and fake beard to reveal MANNY FERNANDEZ!!!!!!!!!
He dared Spoiler to get back in the ring as the fans went crazy, and on commentary, Stack was rather loud and excited when proclaiming that Manny Fernandez has returned to the Southwest! Spoiler took a hike, and Fernandez played to the crowd as the show went to commerical break.

Commercials

Match:  Eight Man Tag
The Fantastics & The Guerreros vs. Johnny Mantell & The Hangman and The Galaxians

The action was very fast paced.  As the heel team finally took over, the show went to a break....

Commercials

Out of the break, and the baby faces were on the comeback.  It finally broke down to an eight way fight.  The Hangman got his bullrope and bell from ringside, and clocked all four of the good guys with it to draw the DQ.  The Galaxians celebrated, but Mantell took the bell and nailed both of them as well.

Mantell and Hangman went to Steve Stack as the show was about to end, and Mantell said that it don't matter who it is, if you get in their way in the tournament, youre going down!

Stack wished everyone happy holidays and wrapped up the show for today!

Hangman and Mantell looking that good certainly wasn't expected. Totally wasn't expecting Fernandez to be Santa. Loved The Blondes getting upstaged by Perez and Romero. Tully's comments don't bode well for him and Lothario. Interesting that a Mascaras win was almost an afterthought.

Great stuff.
