AMERICAN HEARTLAND WRESTLING Promotes in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, Manitoba, and Las Vegas, Nevada Recorded under the Auspices of the American Wrestling Association, and president Verne Gagne Announcers: Roger Kent, Gene Okerlund, Ron Trongard, Referees: Marty Miller, Larry Lisowski, and Jimmy Bunning Taped at the WGN Chicago Studio on: Tuesday December 18th 1982 Aired Throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa, Manitoba, and Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday & Sunday Opening Theme Roger Kent & Ron Trongard welcome the fans to Heartland Wrestling. Kent tells the fans at home that this week will have Animal with his manager “Precious” Paul Ellering, in a handicap match. The US junior champion Tim Horner will be in action, defending the belt against Bobby Bold Eagle. Otto Wanz, Curt Hennig and more will be in action. The Heartland vice president Wally Karbo comes out to address issues from last week. He tells the Heartland TV champion, Larry Zbyszko to come out. He does. Karbo tells him that last week he told Zbyszko that he would learn who his opponent will be for the New Year’s card. Larry Z tells him to spit it out. Karbo tells him that he will be facing none other than Jules Strongbow. The champ smiles and says no problem, until Karbo tells him since they are on TV right now, then tonight Zbyszko can defend tonight too....this time against BLACKJACK LANZA!!!! Zbyszko freaks out until Karbo tells him to either defend or forfit the belt as we get sent to the ring for the action. Animal w/ Paul Ellering take on and demolish the much smaller team of Jake Milliman & Red Dog Lane. The ending comes when Animal delivers a vicious clothesline from the middle rope on Milliman, knocking him loopy for the pin. ####After The Match#### Ellering is at ringside with Animal. He tells Mean Gene that there will be a new member joining his Legion shortly. Gene asks him who, and Ellering tells him that it is not his business yet, but just know that sooner than later, the Heartland as well as the AWA in a whole are going to be more than shocked. ##Commercial $1## Trongard & Kent repeat the huge announcement made at the beginning of the show. Larry Zbyzko will have to defend the television title tonight against Blackjack Lanza as well as the title will be on the line on December 30th. Johnny Valiant cannot be happy with that. The card is looking to be a huge one with a lot of action going on. U.S. Junior Championship: Tim Horner (Champion) defeats Bobby Bold Eagle after a nice back and forth style match with plenty of near falls from both men. The end comes when Horner catches Bold Eagle with a crucifix pinfall. ####After The Match#### Tim Horner is at ringside with Mean Gene. He tells Gene that there is one less contender to his US Junior title. One less person in front of him on his way to the AWA World junior belt. He is the number one contender to the world title and he wants the world junior champion in January. He wants Tiger Mask’s AWA world junior title as well as the MASK!!! Tim Horner says he is more than good enough to take the title and when the beating is done, Horner will have his mask. ##Commercial #2## **BEGIN VTR** Baron Von Raschke action is seen across the screen. He is taking on people like Verne Gagne, Mad Dog Vachon, Larry Hennig, and Nick Bockwinkel. The bottom says coming soon across the screen as the VTR ends. **END VTR** Otto Wanz, in a handicap match, takes on and defeats both Frank Monte & Sonny Rogers, ending this with a bear hug that makes Rogers submit, then a second on makes Monte. ####After The Match#### Otto Wanz once again challenges Olympic strongman and US heavyweight champion Ken Patera to come out and defend the title against the Austrian strong man. Wanz claims he is stronger than Ken Patera and will prove this when Patera stops being chicken. Mean Gene asks Wanz whether this is about bragging rights or the US title. Wanz says he is the strongest man in the world. But he would be lying if he said he did not want the AWA World title. Ken Patera is in the way of that title so if Wanz can get rid of Patera and take the US title, the AWA champion will have no choice but to face him. ##Commercial #3## Kent & Trongard let the fans in on the Can-Am title tournaments that will be coming to both Heartland and Stampede Wrestling. The Can-Am Tag Team Title brackets have been announced with them being as follows. The Mercenaries representing Stampede Wrestling, will be taking on Prince Maivia & Superfly Tui and in the second match of the tournament, The Masters of Disaster, Kerry Brown & Duke Myers, representing Stampede Wrestling will be taking on Jules Strongbow & Blackjack Lanza. The winners of these matches will face off on the third week, crowning the first Can-Am tag team champions. The singles tournament will take place January 27th in Calgary Alberta, Canada. Trongard sends us to the ring to watch one of the AWA representatives for the singles tournament. Curt Hennig defeats “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe in a great match that shows how much the young Hennig has improved since his last stay in Heartland. The match ending comes when Sharpe, showing off for the crowd (much to their dismay), is caught with a dropkick from the top rope that sends him flying. This allows Hennig to almost stalk Sharpe and latch on the sleeper hold. ####After The Match#### Curt Hennig is with Mean Gene. He tells Gene that it has been a while since he has been in Heartland but he is glad to be back. He likes wrestling with his dad and his friends like the High Flyers. He is here to help out those who need it. Mean Gene asks him about the Can-Am heavyweight title tournament. Hennig lets Gene know he has faced some of these guys before in other territories. He was a rookie when he fought people like Leo Burke before, and Bob Roop, but now that has changed. Hennig is not a rookie anymore. He has a few years under his belt and now it is time for him to step out of his father’s shadow and start to make it on his own. This will start at the Can-Am tournament when AWA gold will once again be around the waist of a Hennig. ##Commercial #4## Kent & Trongard reiterate about the main event tonight between Larry Zbyszko defending his title against Blackjack Lanza. Johnny Valiant argues with them saying that the AWA is trying to silence his man Zbyszko. Leroy Brown tried to get between Zbyszko and the title and look what happened to him. Now Wally Karbo wants to have Zbyszko do it again but this time to Jules Strongbow. Fine with Valiant. Larry Z is trying to get out of the match tonight against Lanza, but Valiant tells him he has a plan and can hold him responsible should the plan not work. Heartland Television Championship Match: Larry Zbyszko (champion) with Johnny Valiant loses the match and the title to Blackjack Lanza, in a shocking match. Zbyszko & Valiant attempt to deliver a double team move with Valiant holding Lanza at the ropes and Zbyszko running to deliver a closed fist. Lanza ducks out of the way making Zbyszko hit his manager. Shocked at it, Lanza rolls up the champ in a school boy and gets the nod and the title. ####After The Match#### As Lanza celebrates, leaving the ring with the title, Zbyszko yells and screams at Valiant, pushing Valiant to the ground as he storms out of the ring, leaving Valiant on his broken leg, trying to get up. .
