NWA WWF Spectrum Show 12/16/82
Dec 24th, 2012, 2:06am

WWF SPECTRUM SHOW
Philly Spectrum
Philadelphia, PA
12/16/82

BIG JOHN STUDD w/BOBBY HEENAN DEF. CHIEF JAY STRONGBOW
Studd looks impressive not letting the chief get any offense and after a few minutes of domination, he ends it with a bear hug.

ROCKY JOHNSON DEF. GEORGE STEELE w/LOU ALBANO
Steele jumps rocky at the bell and starts the beginning part of the match, sneaking foreign objects from his trunks to work over the forehead of Rocky. But eventually, Rocky makes his comeback and really takes it to George, after hitting a big body slam on him, he comes off the top rope with a fist to the face and makes the cover and gets the pin.

IVAN PUTSKI DEF. CURT HENNIG w/BOBBY HEENAN
Heenan leads his charge out and they look confident, but that all changes when Polish Power hits the ring, he uses his strength to keep Hennig on his heels the whole match. Sure Hennig gets in some offense when the match is slowed down, but when he tries matching strength with Putski he comes out on the losing end. Putski hits a suplex then tosses him into the ropes and nails him with the polish hammer coming off the ropes and gets the win.

After the match, Heenan is visibly upset and has words with Hennig before leaving him in the ring.

INTERMISSION

WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH:
PEDRO MORALES vs. DON MURACO w/LOU ALBANO
Pedro comes out fast and really works over Don from the beginning, the crowd is behind Pedro and he makes Don keep leaving the ring to talk it over with Albano. Don comes back in after one such conference and takes control of the match. He really pounds away on Pedro and taunts the crowd as he works over their hero and does not let him get his bearings. Don keeps on him and nails him with a body slam and then works over his arms and neck area. He is trying to soften him up for his piledriver. He tosses him outside the ring and he blasts him into the ring post. When he goes back in, Albano sneaks up behind Pedro and nails him with a  chair to the head and neck. Don pulls Pedro back into the ring and then hits a big clothesline. Pedro makes a comeback and gets his fight out there to wear down Muraco but his neck has been weakened and when he goes for an atomic drop the weight of Muraco makes it give way. Muraco has him where he wants him now and after another bodyslam, he picks him up in a tombstone piledriver and executes it with precision. He makes the cover and gets the three count.

After the match, Muraco and Albano celebrate with the IC belt.

BRUNO SAMMARTINO vs. DAVID SAMMARTINO

The two Sammartinos enter the ring and listen to the ref’s instructions. Once the bell rings, they lock up and Bruno comes out on top, as he goes hold for hold catching David in one after another, he gingerly applies them which frustrates David to no end. David keeps encouraging his father to come at him full force but Bruno just smiles as he continues to catch his son in holds and David angrily fights out of them, finally David gets the better of the exchange with Bruno and starts to work his father over even throwing a few punches to the elder Sammartino. Bruno steps back after this barrage and seems impressed with his son as they lock up again. Once again Bruno takes control and this time he steps up his game a bit more and gives David a little less slack. Bruno tosses David into the ropes and hits a backdrop on him. He suplexes David to the mat, and catches him in an armbar. Bruno cinches in the arm bar and David howls in pain. Bruno releases and after hitting a bodyslam on him, he goes for the cover and David kicks out. David ducks under a clothesline attempt by his dad and then comes back with a drop kick, he slams his dad’s head into the corner and then tries to suplex his dad but is blocked by Bruno and he returns the favor with a  suplex of his own. Finally, Bruno hits a backbreaker on David and makes the cover for the win.

After the bell is rung and Bruno has his hand raised, David is got his head down in the corner, Bruno goes over and puts his arm around him and talks to him. David shakes off his disappointment, he raises Bruno’s hand as the crowd cheers, it looks like David is buying into his dad’s advice, THEN HE CLOTHESLINES BRUNO right in the middle of the ring. He puts the boots to his dad, and then grabs a chair and works Bruno over with it, he leaves his dad lying in the middle of the ring, as the crowd reigns down boos on him. Bruno has to be helped from the ring.

DINO BRAVO/TONY GAREA/RICK MARTEL vs. TED DIBIASE/MR SAITO/MR FUJI w/SKANDOR AKBAR

The faces comes in and control the match from the beginning, they use their speed to wear down the heels. Garea works over Fuji and looks to be in control but Fuji gives him a low blow and the heels start to work over Garea, as they bait Bravo and Martel into the ring to distract the ref. Garea is really in trouble and the crowd starts to chant his name to try and get him back. They get numerous two counts on him as he keeps kicking out. Finally, after Saito tries to hit a clothesline on him, Garea ducks and nails him with a  dropkick. He makes the hot tag to Martel, who comes in fired up and takes on all three men, Bravo then comes in to help out and Garea drags himself back in there as well. All six men brawl, with the tag champs and their challengers brawling on the floor. With the ref having his back turned Akbar tries to interfere but it backfires, leaving Dibiase lying on the mat. Bravo picks him up and nails a side suplex on him. The ref turns around and makes the cover giving them the win.

Bravo, Garea and Martel acknowledge the crowd after their big win.

Good show overall.

I like seeing Muraco as IC champ, but one thing was weird to me.  It's tough seeing him win titles and celebrate with them, and think back to the long reign he had as world champion here.  That's nothing on your end, but it will always feel weird to me.

Good to see that Putski isn't through.  Hennig may be after that loss though since he was talking so tough recently leading up to the match.  Wouldn't surprise me if Heenan fires him right away.

The opening 2 matches just felt like they belonged in that spot with the booking, which is a good thing.  I can easily picture Steele out there in the second match using his objects to get the crowd riled up early in the night.

I liked the write up of the Sammartino's match.  The actual match was really well thought out and conveyed in your writing.  The after match stuff didn't work for me with David's vicious atttack and use of the chair though. Just can't see that happening.

But like I said, good show overall.

Great card for the Philly fans...I have to disagree with Mickey as this was the perfect way for David to react after everything you've done to lead up to this match...Congrats to Muraco!  Really good six man...Great stuff!

Johnson is on as much of a roll here Hennig is in a slump. A begrudging congrats to Muraco. David is on his way but it will be interesting to see how Bruno responds. DiBiase better get on the same page with Ak.

Great show.
