NWA MACW TV 12/29/82 Choo Chooing to Chattanooga
Dec 24th, 2012, 7:48am

Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling taped Dec 18, 1982 at WRAL Studios in Raleigh, NC for broadcast the weekend of December 28, 1982, syndicated throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and parts of Tennessee and Ohio. Hosts: Bob Caudle and David Crockett. Sandy Scott is the NWA Official in charge.

The NWA World Tag Team Champions Jimmy Garvin and Gino Hernandez come out and start mocking Jay Youngblood and his injured knee. This brings out Rick Steamboat and Youngblood who is on a crutch.

Garvin taunts Youngblood:  “World Champions bust my knee, from now on, called Chief Wounded Knee by my peoples!” Gino laughs at his partner’s  phony Native American accent until Steamboat calls him a coward.

Steamboat: “You know Hernandez, you are the biggest phony playboy there is. Not so long ago, I beat some sense into someone else who thought he was more than what he was at the time. I guess, I’ll have to beat some sense into you the same way, though, I doubt you’ll respond the same way!”

Hernandez challenges Steamboat to a match here on television today.

Steamboat says “I thought you’d never ask!”

MATCH 1 – BOBBY DUNCUM w/JJ Dillon defeats KEITH LARSON in 5:32.

Before Duncum could get out of the ring, the NWA World Champion hits the ring and starts pummeling on the big Texan. Dillon tries to interfere but gets Bionic Elbowed for his troubles. The fight between Dusty and Duncum goes to the floor and over to where Caudle and Crockett are.

Sandy Scott and a platoon of wrestlers from the back come out and finally separate the two. Duncum and Dillon are ushered to the back as Dusty stays with Crockett and Caudle.

“Just a few short dayyyyyysssss, Bobby D! Just a few short days! And I am gonna put a whopping on your hiney like aint neva seen before! Bobby D, you want a shot at the World’s Heavyweight Champion, well, Jackson, you’ve got it!!! Believe me, Bobby D and you too James Dillon, you’ve started something neither of you are half man enough to finish!”

BREAK 1 =======00000=======

Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Champion The Iron Sheik comes out and says: “It is a disgrace for The Sheik to have to be in the same ring as that AhSudanese Dog, Abdullah the AhDoughnut Eater. This is a conspiracy of the highest order coming from AhSandy Scott and you, AhDavid Crockett. Don’t you look all innocent to The Sheik. The Sheik knows what you trying to do. You are trying to humiliate The Sheik.”

“AhDavid Crockett,  AhSandy Scott, I will beat your Sudanese Dog and prove to you and everyone else that The Sheik and Iran is number one, you and USA is number zero.”

MATCH 2 – RICKY MORTON and ROBERT GIBSON “The Rock-n-Roll Express” versus JUMBO TSURUTA and MASA FUCHI.

 This match is fast paced with Tsuruta getting the advantage on Morton after a series of suplexes. Morton and Gibson would make a comeback working on Fuchi. Unfortunately, for both teams neither was able to get a pinfall within the ten minute time limit and the match was declared a draw.

Sandy Scott called both teams over to him and David Crockett. Scott said neither team has able to get a win against the other in two high profile tries. He tells both teams there is an opportunity coming up New Year’s Eve in Chattanooga to face off in a 20minute time limit. Both teams readily agree to the challenge.

BREAK 2 ===============0000====================

United States Champion Magnum Terry Allen comes out. Bob Caudle says now it has been confirmed in Chattanooga on December 31st, Allen will be defending the belt against former champion Harley Race. Caudle throws it to a VTR from Race.

Race by VTR: “Terry Allen, you are a most impressive young grappler. One day, you might rule this sport, but that day is not today, Terry Allen. Nor will it be December 31st in Chattanooga. Allen, I am on a quest to regain the World Heavyweight Title from Dusty Rhodes and going through you is my way to do it!”

Allen is joined by Paul Jones. Jones tells Allen, while they have had their differences, he knows Allen can beat Race, because he has done it before.  Allen thanks Jones for his support and says he thinks Race has forgotten who beat him for the United States belt back in the summer. Allen says he’s pinned Race once, he’ll do it again.

Jones says Bobby Duncum has bitten off more than he can chew with Dusty Rhodes.  He adds, he hears that Dillon will have Hulk Hogan in his corner for their loser leaves town match in Chattanooga. Jones says he doesn’t care, because he has a surprise for Dillon!

MATCH 3 – KOKO B WARE & BRICKHOUSE BROWN def KENDO NAGASAKI & JOHNNY SAINT in 8:32.

Ware and Brown are joined by George Wells. Ware says it’s only a matter of time before they beat Johnny Weaver and Nelson Royal for the MidAtlantic Tag Team Titles. He says it’s going to be a good day all the way around when George Wells beats Mike Rotundo for the Television Title.

Wells says he is looking forward to his match in Chattanooga against Rotundo. He says he like Mike, but that cannot factor into his goals for the title. He adds it’s one thing to win a title, it’s another to beat someone as talented as Rotundo for the belt.

BREAK 3 =================0000=============================

Mid Atlantic Television Champion Mike Rotundo join Bob and David saying being Television Champion means always defending the belt. He says George Wells is a great athlete and he looks forward to facing him in Chattanooga.

Mid Atlantic Television Title:
MATCH 4 – MIKE ROTUNDO versus THE GREAT KABUKI. Rotundo wins the match at 7:10 when Kubuki went to spray the green mist in the champion’s eyes. Instead, Mike ducked and rolled the Singapore star into a school boy for the win.

JJ Dillion comes out with Dory Funk, Jr and Hulk Hogan. Dillon tells the world, in Chattanooga, not only will Dusty Rhodes world title reign come to an end, but his career will as well as Bobby Duncum is ready to settle an old score.

Dory Funk, Jr. says Mark Youngblood is going to get hurt if he thinks he is going to beat him in the $100,000 Challenge. He says there is a difference between bravery and stupidity and “Mark is being dangerously stupid!”

Hulk Hogan says Paul Jones is the reason he is not facing Terry Allen for the United States Heavyweight Title. He says JJ Dillon will make Jones pay for that and he will make sure that happens!

Dillon chimes in: “Paul Jones, you better sell your house, get rid of your dog and get those bags packed, because you are gonna be moving!”

BREAK 4===============000===============================

Mark Youngblood, joined by Jay Youngblood and Ricky Steamboat, says “Squiggy” Funk is about to become much poorer. He says Funk’s bank account is going to start 1983 with a $100,000 loss!

Jay Youngblood says if he has to fight Hernandez and Garvin with one leg, he will do that in Chattanooga. He says on January 1st , Hernandez and Garvin will be calling him and Steamboat, “World Champions!”

Ricky Steamboat says Gino Hernandez is about to learn a wrestling lesson and says tonight is only the start of the battle that will end December 31st in Chattanooga.

MATCH 5 --- RICKY STEAMBOAT verses GINO HERNANDEZ. Hernandez attacks right at the bell and Steamboat gets off to a slow start. Steamer absorbs a lot of punishment in the early going as Jay Youngblood and Jimmy Garvin are on the outside of the ring.

Steamboat starts to get the upperhand, as Garvin gets on the ring apron. Ricky knocks Gino to the other side of the ring with a karate chop, then goes after Garvin. He rams Garvin’s head into the ring post knocking him to the floor. Youngblood then chops Jimmy and he is down on the floor.

Hernandez attacks the distracted Steamboat and tries to piledrive him. Steamer then back flips out of the attempt, and sends Gino crashing hard to the mat. Ricky then heads off to the ropes. Garvin gets to his feet but is holding his face and bleeding as Youngblood rushes towards him.

Steamboat flies of the ropes and catches Hernandez, who had just gotten to his feet with a cross body block and snags the win at 8:51. Hernandez is stunned, Garvin is bleeding as Steamboat and Youngblood celebrate the win.

Youngblood and Steamboat go over to Bob Caudle and Ricky says “Monday night, it’s for the world tag team title.”

Very interesting comments from Hogan toward Jones. Funk sure is being disrespected by Youngblood. Great win by Steamer. Really enjoyed the match between Morton and Gibson and Tsuruta and Fuchi. Brickhouse and ware are growing on me but I am not quite certain about Wells. Fantastic promos along the way along with super graphics.

Good stuff, bud.
