Georgia action: Dec 16-22/82 Houses and TV Re-cap
Dec 24th, 2012, 12:12pm

Since I have to write the exploits of super heroes on Earth 1, Earth 2, and
Earth-S, I am a little behind. Please excuse just highlights as I get caught up
going into all the Christmas shows. Live long and prosper this holiday season
and remember the reason.

House Shows
Georgia Championship Wrestling December 16-20

*Tony Atlas puts Paul Orndorff to sleep in Rome, Georgia. He puts a Marilyn
Monroe wig on The Total Package. Orndorff is livid after Atlas wakes him up.
*Roddy Piper wrestles for the AWA Heavyweight Championship in Columbus on
December 18. He looks to have beaten Wahoo McDaniel when he puts his foot on the
rope for extra leverage. George Scott rips the AWA title belt out of Piper's
hands and orders the match to re-start. Wahoo pins Piper with a flying chop.
Piper gets on the house mike and says he is awaiting a proclamation from AWA
"grand poobah" Verne Gagne that will take care of Scott. Later in the week,
Piper loses a Georgia title match to Dick Slater after arguing with Scott again.
*Cowboy Ron Bass knocks out Superstar Billy Graham in Atlanta, Georgia with the
Oakland Raiders ring he stole from him on TV.
*Gene Anderson is in a shoulder brace for the National Tag Team Title match in
Atlanta with The Briscos. Being defensive of Gene costs Ole and Arn the match.
*Wendell Cooley beats Rip Rogers in Atlanta. Steve Olsonoski beats Randy Rose in
Rome. Sweet Brown Sugar beats Norvell Austin in Columbus. One has to wonder if
the ME, INC. strategy has any advantage going into the TV tourney on Christmas
Night at the Omni.
*Kareem Mohammad hurts the ribs of Mr. Wrestling II in Atlanta after II's win.
Three big splashes take their toll.
*Abdullah the Butcher and Ernie Ladd take the measure of Wrestling II and Masked
Superstar in Augusta. The two masked men work suprisingly well together. Abby
carves up 'Star's shoulder and Ladd takes the National champion out with a
wicked clothesline and a running leg drop. The world will see The Superstar's
face if that happens again, December 27, in Marietta.

"Georgia Championship Wrestling"
December 22, 1982 6:05-8:05

The studio has been decorated for Christmas. Both Rich Landrum and Jim Ross have
Santa hats on.

MATCHES:
*Mike Doggendorff defeats Thunderfoot with a top rope shoulder block @ 7:23.
*Magic Dragon defeats Gary Young with a nerve hold @ 6:34.
*The Cheetah Kid defeats Jerry Grey with a victory roll @ 8:00.
*Charlie Cook and El Halcon wrestle to a 10-minute draw. Both men shake hands
after the match.
*Masked Superstar defeats Don Serrano with a cobra clutch @ 6:45. Ross says that
MS and Dick Slater will wrestle first on December 27 to see who faces Wahoo
McDaniel. Other matches that Slater and Superstar are in will also happen,
making it a real triumph if they win the World belt.

*Dick Slater defeats El Rayo with a shoulder breaker @ 7:00.
*The Oates Brothers and Kurt Von Hess/Karl Von Shotz wrestle to a DOUBLE
COUNTOUT @ 9:00. The match is all over the studio.

INTERVIEWS:
-Roddy Piper is out as the show begins. He asks for a short message from Verne
Gagne, AWA president, to be shown. Gagne says there have been numerous
complaints from wrestlers and managers that George Scott is on a power trip and
doesn't understand about the role of a leader can be behind the scenes. Roddy
Piper, who is one of the most charismatic voices in wrestling, made a good case
that Scott has to be put in his place. Since there is a manager opening on the
Georgia roster, Gagne has placed Scott on the 38-person roster. Scott will team
with Dick Slater to face Piper in Marrietta on December 27 in a handicap match.
Ross mentions that Scott has a history of neck problems. Piper says Scott should
have thought of that before now.
-Ladd says it will be worth risking his spot in Georgia to be the man who causes
Superstar to have to show his "ugly egg-suckin' face". Sir Oliver Humperdink is
surprised that he will be barred from the match in Marietta.
-Ole Anderson is in the locker room at WTBS. He says Gene will be out for their
match in Marietta. The Briscos thinks that will be a liability for The
Andersons. It will be an advantage.
-Wendell Cooley, Sweet Brown Sugar, and Steve Olsonoski are at ringside. They
say they will beat any members of ME, INC. they have to in the National
Television Title Tournament on Christmas Night at the Omni.. Ross brings up the
possibility of wrestling each other. Sugar syas that is what wrestling is all
about: COMPETITION. Cooley and Olsonoski agree.
-Superstar Billy Graham says he has spoken to the young fan Ron Bass traumatized
last week. Things are going better for him. Graham says if he can't get his
Raiders football ring back from Bass, he doesn't deserve to be anybody's hero.
-Wrestling II looks at the clips where Kareem Mohammad hurt his ribs this past
week the Georgia State Sports Arena. In Marietta, he will show "Ray Candy" who
the man is.
-Paul Orndorff says, wig or no, December 27 will signal "A New Beginning" for
The Total Package.

-During the Slater match, Superstar comes out for commentary. In the heat of the
match, Slater takes offense to some of the comments. After the match, there is a
staredown. The potential fight is stopped by a phone call from AWA president
Verne Gagne that can be heard in the studio. He says that he reviews all
scheduled AWA cards through his office. He says that the possibility exists that
one of these two men will have had to wrestle two tough matches before facing
McDaniel for the AWA World Title.

Gagne says that it will cheapen the quality of the World Title Match. He
declares that a Battle Royal will take place consisting of men who do not have
another scheuled match on the card to determine the challenger. Slater, 'Star,
Ross, Landrum, and, even, George Scott are livid. Scott saythat Georgia is the
flagship of the AWA and Gagne knows it. This just gives further rhyme and reason
to the Piper match decision. Scott says it is Gagne on a power trip, not him.
Gagne says that affiliates of the AWA have to follow edicts handed down from the
AWA offices. Simple as that. The call and the show end abruptly.

Really great stuff here Johnny!  Orndorff with the wig is classic...Really good set-up to your Christmas shows...Piper may shut up Scott for good in the ring...Piper certainly has gotten in Verne's ear, leading to the controversial decisions he has made...An injured II is very very dangerous...Great job!
