NWA Florida 12/25/82 Barry v. Greg - Best of 3
Dec 26th, 2012, 10:35pm

Championship Wrestling from Florida presents: Live Professional Wrestling
12/25/82 from the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory in Tampa, Florida

*All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance*

Opening Contest- 1 fall with a 15 minute time limit
“Bulldog” Bob Brown defeats Pete Doherty with a leg drop @ 8:19

Second Contest – 1 fall with a 15 minute time limit – Mask verse Hair match
The Nightmare defeats Perro Aguayo in a mask verse hair match after 7:33 with a gord buster. The masked man started shaving the head of the Mexican Mad Dog before Flama Roja and El Faron hit the ring and assaulted the masked man before taking the fallen Aguayo back to the dressing room.

Third Contest – 1 fall for the Florida TV Title
“Professor” Bill Ash falls to “Hacksaw” Brett Sawyer after a big side Russian leg sweep by Sawyer @ 11:48 for Sawyer to regain the TV title. Ash’s associate, the Masked Superstar #2 was occupied on the outside by Omar Atlas, who kept the match on the up and up.

Fourth Contest – Handicap Match – 1 fall to a finish
The One Man Gang falls to the Legion of Doom duo of the Missing Link and “Warlord” Jonathan Boyd after King Curtis distracted referee Jack Terry long enough to allow Boyd to deliver not 1, not 2, but 3 stiff shots from the Doomsday glove to the One Man Gang. Iaukea tried to get his men to do more damage but he was cleared out by none other than Kevin Sullivan, swinging a chair.

Fifth Contest – tag team contest - 1 fall with a 20 minute time limit
The Malenko Brothers fought the Young Lions (Huber and Regal) to a double count out after 9:24 as all four men started brawling on the outside after Huber decked “Professor” Boris Malenko on the outside.

Intermission- Fans are greeted by a special guest, Santa Claus, who throws candy canes out to the audience, and by Eddie Graham who tells fans that the next big Armory show will be in February, where the World Junior Heavyweight Champion will defend his title and the Southern Heavyweight Champion will face the winner of the next contest.

Sixth Contest – 1 fall to a finish
Jake “the Snake” Roberts defeats Kevin Sullivan in a blood soaked brawl after Sullivan was mesmerized by the wriggling of the duffle bag that Roberts brought with him to the ring. Sullivan had delivered a double stomp to Jake and looked ready to make a cover when the bag seemed to jump to life and seemed to rise up in its center. Sullivan backed away from the cover and this was the time and space Roberts needed to deliver a brutal DDT to score the pin himself.

Seventh Contest – 1 fall for the Florida Heavyweight Title
“The Canadian Bruiser” Bob Sweetan falls to Butch Reed after the Florida Champ caught the rugged Canadian with a flying shoulder tackle after 17:33

Eighth Contest – 1 fall for the Florida Tag Team Titles
Prior to the match, the champions came to the ring and taunted Bob Sweetan as he left the ring. Sweetan, in his anger, floored Mike George for the devastating right hand. As the match had not yet started, referees were at a loss for a disqualification, so the match went forward.
In the match, Mike Graham and Brian Blair took everything to Jesse Barr, who did everything to avoid tagging in a dazed Mike George. Twice in the match, George did break up pin attempts and finally made a blind tag to get himself into the match. And with a tremendous effort, he took Mike Graham down with a belly to back suplex, but came down wrong, with Graham’s weight keeping the shoulder of George down as well as the impact taking him out. Both sets of shoulders were counted down. With Eddie Graham at ringside, he refused to return the belts to the champions, but also refused to hand the belts to the challengers. The titles appeared to be held up. Both Mike Graham and Mike George have to be assisted from the ring.

Main Event of the Evening – Best of Three falls with a 60 minute time limit for the NWA Southern Heavyweight Championship
Fall 1: Windham comes out of the gate quickly and pounds on the former World Champion Valentine. His youthful energy seems to have Greg a little off balance and within the first ten minutes, Barry is set up for a running bulldog. But as the champion starts forward, Greg shoves Windham and he goes flying into the turnbuckle. Valentine rams the blonde head of Barry into the buckle a few more times for good measure before inexplicably rolling to the outside and grabbing the dazed champion by the leg and taking him off his feet. Valentine slams the knee of the champion into the ring post and it draws an immediate disqualification from referee Earl Hebner @ 13:01 of the match.

Windham leads 1-0 (champion takes fall via disqualification)

Fall 2:  During the interval, Valentine has slammed Windham’s knee again and again into the ring post before a scolding from referee Hebner finally gets Greg back into the ring. Barry is clutching his knee and rolling on the mat. But with the 90 second interval over, the bell sounds and the former World Champion slowly saunters over under a cascade of boos. He stomps on the knee of the champion before draping the leg over the bottom rope and coming down on the extremity with as much weight as he can. Valentine is dragging out the punishment here and drops an elbow on the champion just to show he can rather than pinning the man. A second elbow however is followed up by a pin attempt and the wear and tear of the assault shows what it has taken out as the challenger draws even, scoring his pin fall after 6:58 (19:59 of the time limit)

Falls tied 1-1 (challenger takes fall via pin)

Deciding fall: During this interval, Valentine has backed off. He almost seems to relax back in a neutral corner while Windham barely crawls to the ropes to aid in regaining his feet. Barry pulls himself up by the ropes, but can’t seem to put any weight on to the injured leg. And while he may now truly be a one legged man in a butt kicking contest, does he have enough to take the former World’s Heavyweight Champion. And by his first step away from the ropes, it is obvious that he may not have much to go on as his leg collapses under his weight. Valentine charges in, almost shoving aside referee Hebner as he pounds on the fallen champion. Barry takes shot after shot by the challenger, before being dragged up to his feet before a skull cracking elbow to the brow that sends Barry crashing to the mat. When he rises up in an attempt to drag himself away, blood is gushing from above the champion’s brow, draining even more life from him. Valentine then grabs the legs of the champion and pulls him back to the center of the ring. He drives the injured knee into the now blood smeared canvas before attempting to lock on the figure four leg lock. Out of nowhere, the champ goes for a small package and Valentine escapes just before three. A look of shock and frustration comes over the challenger. He was sure he’d broken Windham.  A heavy boot to the back of Windham, who is still down from his attempt, reengages the attack by the challenger. Windham is barely moving and can’t really be said to be defending himself. Earl Hebner tries to check on Windham but Valentine chops the champ across the chest before an answer is received. A blood stained Barry falls to the mat like a sack of grapefruit off a truck. Valentine again goes for the figure four and this time, there is nothing left in Barry Windham to fight on. Earl Hebner calls for the bell after 15:37 and raises the hand of the new champion.

Winner of the match 2 falls to 1 and NEW Southern Heavyweight Champion, Greg Valentine

Fans boo as Valentine snatches up his newly won belt and walks back to the dressing room. Coming to the ring past him are Mike Graham, Brian Blair, and Brett Sawyer. They help Barry to his feet and assist him back to the dressing room as the boos shift to cheers.

Classic battle between Valentine and Windham. Sweetan taking that cheap shot on George will bring about a reckoning. Sullivan backing off Roberts was a bad mistake but seeing Kevin go after King Curtis made up for it. Great match from the Malenkos and Huber/Regal.

Great holiday action.

Great job in making the card "extra" - the 2 of 3 fall ME, injecting Sweetan in the TT match, consistently good use of the lucha's.

I see so much "on the table" ready to roll out in the New Year.
