Georgia TV 12/29/82 Holiday Fallout: Changes
Dec 30th, 2012, 7:51am

"GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING"
TAPED: SATURDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 29, 1982 @ 10 AM
WTBS -TV STUDIOS ATLANTA, GEORGIA
BROADCAST: SATURDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 29, 1982 @ 6:05-8:05

ANNOUNCERS: JIM ROSS, FREDDIE MILLER
REFEREE: SCRAPPY MCGOWAN

Jim Ross and Freddie Miller welcome the fans to the show.  Ross mentions that Rich Landrum has left the GCW announce team to pursue a fantastic broadcast opportunity elsewhere. Ross wishes his former partner well. Miller chimes in with the announcement he will “BEEE HEERREE” every week at the desk from now on. Both men remind the fans to celebrate the beginning of 1983 responsibly this coming week.

A highlight package of the Georgia Championship Wrestling action that occurred in Atlanta on Christmas Night and in Marietta on this past Thursday night is shown. Focus is on the handicap match between George Scott/Dick Slater and Roddy Piper and Masked Superstar sending Ernie Ladd packing. Also, Cowboy Ron Bass is shown busting up Billy Graham with the Oakland Raider ring he stole from The Superstar.

When the show returns to the desk, Graham is out with The Oates Brothers. He thanks Ted and Jerry for helping him in Marietta on Thursday night. He says that his eye is still swelled up and Superstar doesn’t like looking imperfect. He wants to take it out on somebody. He says that he wants those rings back. They symbolize the blood, sweat, and sacrifice that Superstar is all about. That young fan that saw his hero beat down needs to be reassured, too.

Ted Oates says that those nosy Germans need to be put in their place, as well. Jerry proposes a six-man with The Oates and Graham going against Ron Bass, Kurt Von Hess, and Karl Von Shotz. Sir Oliver Humperdink leads his men out and agrees to the match today, with one stip. If his men win, the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders rings become the personal property of The House of Humperdink permanently. Ted and Jerry look at Billy. Graham says the momentum of The Superstar will not be stopped today. It is on.

Ross sends both teams to the back and tells the fans not to miss any of this
.

******COMMERCIALS******

*Dick Slater defeats Dennis Stamp with a shoulder breaker @ 8:00.

Slater storms to the desk. He demands to know where Piper is. George Scott has been a help to him in his career and seeing him carted out of the Cobb County Civic Center will stay with him forever. Slater says he wants revenge. Ross says there is a VTR from the AWA office that may give Mr. Unpredictable some answers.

Verne Gagne is seated at a broadcast desk with an AWA logo behind him. He immediately apologizes to the fans and wresters of Georgia Championship Wrestling. He was only looking at the surface of the deals in GCW. He was trying to take care of things across the board instead of delving deeper. Piper should have never been allowed to put his hands on George Scott. He has known Scott for years and he should have known he is too valuable a talent to be lost. Good men in place should be allowed to do their jobs. AWA Georgia is the flagship and there is a reason for that.

To compensate somewhat for his bad judgement, several things will happen. First, the AWA will take care of Scott’s medical expenses and any rehab needed. Second, it needs to be known that despite Gagne setting this up, Piper chose to be this brutal to a retired wrestler. Make your point and move on should have been the mantra. The bedlam you decided to unleash will be dealt with now, Piper.

YOU ARE SUSPENDED FROM GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING WITHOUT PAY BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 1983.

Dick Slater, you will get one last shot at Piper in Atlanta tomorrow night. No title on the line. Just a chance to avenge your friend. No DQ. Beat him like he beat Scott. Finally, a new GCW president will be voted on by the LOCAL promoters this week and he will be there next week. Gagne drops his head at the end of the clip. Slater looks at the camera and says Piper is dead meat.

Miller says Masked Superstar is next.

******COMMERCIALS******

*Masked Superstar defeats Chris Hamrick with a cobra clutch @ 7:11.

Superstar talks with Miller at ringside. He says that this “Last Shot in Atlanta” deal applies to Ernie Ladd from what he heard back stage. Miller says that coming off his loss, Ladd could be one mad puppy. ‘Star says he knows the danger of a match like this but he didn’t get this title by shying away from being a pro. He says he will be ready for any last ditch cheap shot from Ladd and his “Weebles Wobble but they don’t fall down” manager.

At this point, a hissing noise becomes audible in the studio and on TV. MS and Miller look at each other wondering what that is. Ross says that an upset Tony Atlas is up next.

******COMMERCIALS******

Tony Atlas defeats Tony Zane with a full nelson @ 7:38. During the match, Atlas is wearing the rainbow wig, due to his Marietta loss to Paul Orndorff.

Atlas and Ross look at a clip from the aforementioned match. A masked man interferes and ends up spearing Atlas into the loss. Atlas says he has always said he was a man. If he came out here and cried what kind of role model would he be. Two things are completely clear to Mr. USA. First, he hasn’t forgotten Paul Orndorff and, down the road, things will be set straight. But, for now, he has talked to the promoters and he wants that masked man straight up.

Once again, the hissing sounds are heard. Ross is extremely displeased. He gets through it and says the six man bout is next.

******COMMERCIALS******

Cowboy Ron Bass/Kurt von Hess/Karl Von Shotz w/Sir Oliver Humperdink defeat Billy Graham/Ted Oates/Jerry Oates by DQ after Von Shotz brings in a chair. Graham takes it, debates it, and clobbers Von Shotz with it. Humperdink turns around McGowan in time to see it. It is obvious that McGowan doesn’t want to but he calls for the DQ @ 8:37.

Humperdink grabs the rings that are at the desk and passes them to Von Hess and Bass. The two of them bloody up Graham. The right eye ends up with a deep bleeding gash. Ernie Ladd comes out and thumbs both Oates boys. Humperdink closes the hour by saying that the New Year will be brought in by bedlam from the HOH. The Last Chance will be the Last Stand for some and the beginning of the end for others.

END OF THE FIRST HOUR

“GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING”
SECOND HOUR

Ross and Miller bring out the Midnight Express or, as Randy Rose says they want to be known, ME, INC. Austin comes out with the National Television Title on his shoulder. During the interview, he passes the belt to Rip Rogers and Rose. Austin says that it was a stroke of genius to sign the contracts for the Tournament as ME, INC. Rose says that not only will opponents not know who to plan for, since any member can defend, but they won’t know who will be on the outside. Miller tries to remind the fans that those are the stips of the current title holders.

Rose says The Express don’t like Miller’s tone but considering what happened to Piper, they will take their concerns up with today’s challenger. Ross says that Sweet Brown Sugar has exercised his re-match clause and will challenge Rose, Rogers, or whomever today. The trio looks very concerned until Rogers calls for a conference. The looks change to confidence, as Rose says, “Let’s do it, now.” The three men go into the ring. Ross calls for a commercial, as Sugar passes the desk.

******COMMERCIALS******

National Television Title
Sweet Brown Sugar and Randy Rose w/Norvell Austin wrestle to a 10-MINUTE DRAW. Sugar looks to have the belt in hand after catching Rose with a powerslam with 30 seconds left. He mounts the top rope for a body press. Austin pushes him off, when Rogers storms the ring. McGowan stops him and doesn’t see Austin. Sugar falls and can’t get in any offense before the bell rings.

The Express start a three way beatdown until Wendell Cooley and Steve Olsonoski come out. The MX beat a hasty retreat. Cooley mentions being hit by the boot of Rip Rogers in the AWA title shot Battle Royal in Marietta. Cooley challenges Rogers to face him straight up today. He will show what a young lion can do to prey that doesn’t sneak up. Miller says that whoever is matchmaking today has to make that so.

Ross says that Mr. Wrestling II is next.

******COMMERCIALS******

Mr. Wrestling II defeats Gary Young with the million dollar knee lift. @ 5:45.

Wrestling II says that when Sir Oliver Humperdink was out here earlier, he didn’t mention Ray Candy. Seems that whether we call him that, or Kareem Mohammad, we can also call him “absent without official leave”. II wonders out loud if the match he has Monday night will be of the “Last Chance” variety or not. As he continues to talk with Miller at ringside, the buzzing starts again. Wrestling II says he has spent some time with Texans and he knows what to do with snakes when they show themselves.

Ross says Paul Orndorff is next.

******COMMERCIALS******

Paul Orndorff defeats Mike Doggendorff in a very tough match for “The Total Package”. In fact, Doggendorff has Orndorff in suplex position late. Orndroff kicks the turnbuckle and pins Doggendorff’s shoulders while raising his right one @ 7:45.

Orndorff stops Ross when he gets to the desk. He tells the announcer not to ask what he thinks of Doggendorff and his potential. That doesn’t matter half as much as what does “The Total Package” plan next. Atlas has been taken care of, now and later, if he reads his masked men right. It is time to move up to some “better competition”. He says that no man can claim to be “A Total Package” until he beats Mr. Wrestling II. But, he won’t just beat II, Orndorff will put him out of wrestling, altogether.

Ross seems distracted, as the segment comes to a close. Orndorff asks if Ross is expecting something. Paul laughs, as he leaves. A perplexed Ross says that Cooley vs. Rogers is next.

******COMMERCIALS******

Wendell Cooley and Rip Rogers wrestle to a DOUBLE COUNOUT @ 7:00.

The match ends up all over the studio. Cooley ends up taking the TV belt from Rose, who comes out with Austin for a beatdown. Olsonoski and Sugar come out and Cooley blasts Rogers with the strap. Ross wonders who has the advantage now.

Miller says he and Ross will see the fans at the matches. BEEE THEERREE!

Great TV!  Pics always make the shows look better, nice touch.  Piper being suspended is not good, but Dickie gets one more crack at the Rowdy Scot...I like the last shot stips for Atlanta...I wonder who will be next for the Superstar?  Who is the masked man Atlas is after?  Looks like SBG has lost the rings for good...Still pulling for Sugar to do big things here...I'm worried about II with Orndorff targeting him...It's going to be hard for anyone to take the TV from the MX, Inc.  Great work Johnny!
