NWA MACW 1//1/83 The Andersons are back !
Jan 3rd, 2013, 8:05am

Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling recorded 1/1/83 at WRAL Channel  5 in Raleigh, NC for syndicated broadcast throughout Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and parts of eastern Tennessee. Hosts: Bob Caudle and David Crockett.

Bob Caudle opens the show and David Crockett is so giddy with excitement he looks like he is about to wet his pants. As soon as Caudle welcomes everyone to the show, Crockett blurts out, “We’ve got new World Tag Team Champions, Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood!”

Caudle tells everyone New Year’s Eve in Chattanooga, Steamboat and Youngblood beat Jimmy Garvin and Gino Hernandez to win the belts. As Bob talks about the match, Steamboat and Youngblood come out.

Caudle congratulates the pair on the win and Steamer talks about now the task is defending the world titles all over the world against the best teams in the world. As Jay begins to speak an old nemesis to Mid Atlantic wrestling with a new look approaches the new champions.

Ole, Gene and Arn Anderson come out. The brash Arn tells Steamboat he will not have to worry about defending those belts for very long as the belts will belong to the Andersons soon.

Ole tells Steamboat and Youngblood they are no strangers and then demands a title shot against the new champions.

Youngblood and Arn Anderson lock eyes like two dogs ready for a fight. Steamboat notices but says nothing about it instead turns his attention to Ole and Gene.

“You three walk in here from out of nowhere and demand a title shot. The reputation of the Andersons is widely known especially here, but the truth is, you haven’t been here in a long time and that means you need to bring something to the table than just history and a mean look. C’mon Jay!”

Steamboat and Youngblood walk off as Arn watches them go.

Ole Anderson: “Do you believe those guys?”

Crockett: “They are the World Tag Team Champions!”

Ole: “For now Crockett. We’ve been world tag champions more times than we can count and now with Arn, we a are more dangerous than ever. Oh, don’t you worry Steamboat, we’ll have more than just history and mean faces when we face you two. And by the time it’s all over, The Andersons will be World Tag Team Champions again.”

MATCH 1 – WAHOO MCDANIEL defeats JUAN REYNOSA in 6:35 with a double chop off the ropes.

Wahoo comes over to Caudle who welcomes him back to the Mid Atlantic Area. Caudle and Wahoo do not hide the fact that he was the American Wrestling Association World Heavyweight Champion.  He says losing the title is bittersweet. He says losing the title in a very controversial match in Memphis, but the good news is he is on a new quest. He is in the Mid Atlantic for the NWA World Title.

Caudle says that puts him on a collision course with another former world champion, current United States Champion, Harley Race.  Caudle then throws it to comments from new United States Heavyweight Champion Harley Race.

Race via videotape with the NWA Logo in the background and the US Title over his shoulder: “Chattanooga, December 31st 1982. Historic place. Historic Time. This was the time and place my quest for the NWA World Title began. Terry Allen, young, strong, good, but not good enough to stop me in my quest. Now, I have to defend this United States Heavyweight Title against the best in the MidAtlantic until I get my shot at the world title. I hear Wahoo McDaniel will be in the area soon. Well, McDaniel, Allen, Steamboat, Jones, Hogan, Iron Sheik, it doesn’t matter. None of you will be able to stop me in my quest!”

Wahoo tells Caudle, he has fought Harley Race all over the world and welcomes the opportunity to win the United States Title from him!

BREAK 1 ===========000000========================

Bob Caudle talks to Magnum Terry Allen who is joined by Paul Jones. Allen says he feels totally depressed after losing the United States Title to Harley Race. Jones calls the youngster out on it.

“What is that, sulking? So you lost the US Belt to Race! You’ll have a chance to get it back and besides, it’s no reason to sulk, Terry. A lot of great wrestlers have lost that US Belt, myself is one of them. Think about it, besides me and you, Steamboat lost that belt, Blackjack Mulligan lost that belt, Wahoo, Flair, Valentine, consider yourself in good company. It’s not that you lost the belt, Terry, but where you go from here.”

The fans cheer Jones’ words as Allen smiles.

Jones continues.

“Now as for me, I got rid of that slime ball, J.J. Dillon…he’s going down to Georgia to clean out rats from chicken farms or something. But that doesn’t meant there isn’t work to do here. Hulk Hogan is still around and while he’s a big fella with a lot of muscles, he seems to be lacking between the ears.”

“Hogan, I don’t have to be stronger than you to beat you. I don’t have to pin you to beat you, cuz I have something, you don’t have. (pointing at his temple) And, it’s right up here!”

MATCH 2 – BRICKHOUSE BROWN & KOKO B WARE defeated AL SNOW & TOM LINTZ  in 7:03

The new Atlantic Coast Tag Team Champions, Ware and Brown are joined by the new NWA Television Champion, George Wells and Ernie Ladd.

While Brown and Ware catch their breath, Wells tells David Crockett, he will be referred to from here on out as Master G! Ladd laughs and claps his hands in approval.  The newly bald, G then thanks his “mentor” Ernie Ladd for the guidance in helping him win the NWA Television Title from Mike Rotundo.

Ladd calls G the greatest football star turned wrestler since him! The Big Cat then offers his services to Ware and Sugar.

Ware and Sugar are offended by the offer with Koko saying they have made it this far without “help” and they will go further without Ladd. G gets upset with his former partners feeling they are disrespecting Ladd. Koko and G get almost beak to beak before being separated by Ladd.

The Big Cat tells G, “It’s okay, G. They can find their own way. They’ll soon see they should’ve accepted my bargain.”

With that, Ladd and G walk off.

The Atlantic States Tag Champions say they want a shot against Steamboat and Youngblood for the world tag team titles. That statement brings out Three Andersons.

“And who the hell are you guys?” Arn Anderson blurts out to the new tag team champions.

As Koko begins to answer, Ole responds.

“You are nobodies, that’s who you are. At least Steamboat and Youngblood have some real history and a bit of talent. You two don’t even have that nor the good sense to accept help when it’s offered. Believe me, you will need all the help you can get.”

“We demand a title shot against the two of you,” Arn adds.

Ware: “You two think you can come out here and just demand what you want? I know the Andersons are legendary here, but we beat a couple of legends for these belts. When you two get in the ring and prove something then…

SMACK!!!!!!!!!

Arn pops the spit out of Koko’s mouth.

Brown tries to jump Gene, but Ole is there and Koko and Arn start to go at it. It’s a three on two as the Crockett throws it to break.

BREAK 2 ===============0000=======================

Mid Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Iron Sheik comes out. He says he beat “that dog” Abdullah the Butcher to prove he is the toughest and most vicious man in wrestling. He says no one can take the MidAtlantic Title from him.

MATCH 3 – MARK YOUNGBLOOD defeated HANS SCHRODER in 7:12.

Youngblood says winning Dory Funk, Jr.’s money never felt so good. He called it the best after Christmas present ever. He says he saw the Iron Sheik out here running his mouth and says he would like a shot at the Mid Atlantic Title or the G’s NWA Television Title.

BREAK 3 =================00000=================

NWA Representative Sandy Scott comes out joining David Crockett and Bob Caudle. Scott says on Christmas Night, David Von Erich of Texas, defeated The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes for the NWA World Title. He says at some point, Von Erich will have to come to the Mid Atlantic to defend the title against the champions here.

When Scott is done, Johnny Weaver comes out. He says he knows he, along with Nelson Royal, have done some things that have not been popular with the fans. He says that’s not how he wants to end his career. He then wished Koko Ware and Brickhouse Brown luck as the Atlantic States Tag Team Champions.  He adds the two guys in the ring have always been a lot to handle.

As Weaver leaves he is confronted off mic by Arn Anderson. It’s a verbal exchange as The Dean walks away and Caudle throws it to the next match.

MATCH 4 – GENE & OLE ANDERSON w/ARN ANDERSON defeats LARRY LANE & KEITH LARSON  in 4:10 as Ole nearly takes out Lane’s arm with knee to the shoulder from the top rope then makes him submit to an armbar!

Ole Anderson: “Now look at that Steamboat and Youngblood! Look at that Koko Ware and whoever that other guy is. That is your future! The Andersons are back and we mean business!”

Arn Anderson: “Someone is about to get hurt, Bad!”

BREAK 4 ===========00000==========================

Hulk Hogan comes out wearing his “Thunderlips” attire from Rocky III. David Crockett tells Hogan he seems really happy considering he just lost his manager, JJ Dillon in a loser leaves town match to Paul Jones.

Hogan seems unimpressed by Crockett saying he didn’t lose a manager, he just stepped it up. With that, Former NWA and WWWF World Champion Buddy Rogers walks out with Larry Zbyszko. Rogers says he will lead Hogan and Zbyszko to greatness. He says the world is about to see what Larry Zbyszko can do.

MATCH 5 – LARRY ZBYSZKO defeated WHIPPER PHIL WATSON in 7:45 with a brainbuster.

Hogan and Rogers did commentary during the match as Larry rejoins them. Rogers calls his group The Elite.

Then bagpipe music fills the studio as some fans cheer and some boo as Roddy Piper comes to ringside.

Rogers smiles as he stands with Hogan and Zbyszko and invites Piper to join them.  Piper grins his fake cheesy grin as he shakes hands with Hogan and Zbyszko and then turns to the camera…

“HELLO….I’M BACK!”

END OF SHOW=================0000====================

World Wide Wrestling recorded 1/1/83 at WRAL Channel  5 in Raleigh, NC for syndicated broadcast throughout Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and parts of eastern Tennessee. Hosts: Rich Landrum and Johnny Weaver.

Steamboat says the challengers are lining up for an opportunity to face them. Youngblood says The Andersons have returned to Mid Atlantic Wrestling and he says they are ready to face them.

MATCH 1 – RICKY STEAMBOAT & JAY YOUNGBLOOD defeated AL SNOW & TOM LINTZ in 6:43.

Landrum and Weaver are joined by Hulk Hogan who says despite his loss of JJ Dillon as a manager, 1983 will be his year because now he has the “right” manager.

Buddy Rogers comes out with Larry Zbyszko. Rogers says he has surrounded himself with the greatest wrestlers in the world. Rogers says when he wrestled he was the greatest of his generation. He says everyone here knows what Hulk Hogan can do and calls Hogan the next “Greatest!”

Rogers says people will learn what makes Zbyszko so special very soon.  Then he says he has one more member of the Trifecta…

Roddy Piper slowly walks out. As he passes by Weaver and looks at him and says, “Remember me!”
Piper shakes hands with Rogers then offers to shake hands with Landrum, but pulls it back at the last second, but takes the microphone instead.

“Hello…hello…hello…Hot Roddy is here!!! Now, you might be wondering why someone of my magnificent talents feels the need to join forces with the legendary Buddy Rogers, The Incredible Hulk Hogan, and the legend killer, Larry Zbyszko? Well…”

Piper looking at Landrum frowning.

“Are you gonna ask the question or not, Mr. Landrum?”

Finally, Landrum asks…

“Ok, why are you joining forces with Buddy Rogers, Hulk Hogan and Larry Zbyszko?”

Piper: “I thought you’d never ask! Why? Because I can. You see, it’s all very very simple. What force on earth could stop us. Who is stronger than Hulksy here? Huh? No one!”

Hogan: “I am more than muscle, I am greatness”

“Of course you are, Hulksy!” Piper responds with a phony smile then adds, “Who is a bigger pest than Z? No one”

Zbyszko: “Heyyyy, I am not a pest!”

“Of course you aren’t, Z!” Piper continues, “and who is smarter than me, No one…but who knows more about making champions than a man who held the biggest gold belts in wrestling at the same time, Mr. Rogers and I am in his neighborhood! Aint that right, Buddy?”

“That’s right Roddy!”

Now, I have to defend this United States Heavyweight Title against the best in the MidAtlantic until I get my shot at the world title. I hear Wahoo McDaniel will be in the area soon. The Andersons are back and Ware and Brown need more than Ladd. I love the group that Rogers has put together. Roddy is already endearing himself to his colleagues. The Master G personna has a lot of potential. Interesting interaction between Jones and Allen. Arn just can't seem to get along with anybody.

Great shows. Love the graphics.
