Airs-1/5/83 MERCER: Welcome to World Class Championship Wrestling. Happy New Year. We have a great program for you today. The new Texas Tag Team Champions, the Midnight Express will defend the titles against Scott Casey and Kevin Von Erich. I also understand that Jim Cornette will have a special celebration of his team winning the belts from Kerry and Kevin. Also, Kerry Von Erich was injured in that match and we’ll try to have an update on his condition.
We also have new NWA World Tag Team Champions as Gino Hernandez & Jimmy Garvin were defeated by Rick Steamboat & Jay Youngblood this past week. Hopefully, we will see the new Champions here in World Class very soon. We don’t know what Jimmy Garvin’s future plans will be, but Gino is scheduled to arrive back in Dallas within the upcoming week and I’ll attempt to have an interview with him on next week’s program. Right now, let’s go to the ring.
Iceman Parsons takes on Moondog Rex (w/Mr. JR) in our opening bout. JR’s interference backfires on Rex and Iceman takes full advantage by hitting the rumper stumper and getting the pin. COMMERCIAL
VTR:
Kerry & Kevin Von Erich are standing in front of the World Class logo. Kerrry is wearing a neck brace.
KERRY: As you can see, I’m suffering an injury right now. During our match with the Midnight Express, David Shults snuck up on me and slammed my head into the ringpost and then gave me a piledriver on the floor. My neck is hurt and I have a concussion. Midnight Express, that’s the only way you could beat me and my big brother! David Shults, I will be back and rest assured that I will be looking for you! Jim Cornette, you might have won a battle, but the war is far from over!
KEVIN: This week, Scott Casey and I will take on the Midnight Express. Everybody remembers that Scott and I were the champions for a long time. I have confidence that we will bring those belts back where they belong today!
Duke Kemomuka, NWA representative , walks out.
KEOMUKA: Kerry, have your doctors given you any idea when you can come back?
KERRY: Probably six weeks.
KEOMUKA: Well, that Texas Title of yours has to be defended every thirty days. Your last defense was on December 26 of last year…..
KERRY( hangs head) It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to do it.
KEOMUKA: We’ll give you a few weeks to know for sure. The Marine hymn plays and Sgt. Slaughter comes to the ring, followed by Don Kernodle. Kernodle is waving an American flag.
LOWRANCE: Here they are, two men who are obviously patriotic Americans and have a real problem with Nikolai Volkoff and Ivan Koloff!
SLAUGHTER: Koloff! Volkoff! You maggots! You pukes! You dirty, Russian slime! How dare you bury this red blooded American, Don Kernodle under a communist flag? How dare you wave the Russian flag in MY COUNTRY!Maybe I haven’t made a lot of friends around here, but there’s one thing I do have in common with all of these people in Dallas, Texas. When we see this flag, when we see Old Glory, our hearts swell with pride! And we stand up, put our hands over our hearts and say:
I pledege allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands. One nation, under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and Justice for all! Volkoff and Koloff, I know you’ve come into territories all over this land and ran roughshod over everybody! Well, you picked the wrong territory this time, maggots, THIS IS SGT. SLAUGHTER’s TERRITORY! And Kernodle and I will not rest until we run you Russian maggots out of Texas and back to Russia!
KERNODLE: Sarge, I apologize for not listening to you. I should have known that no American can ever trust guys like Volkoff and Koloff! That was the most humiliating moment of my life when they put that Russian flag over me! Boys, you’re gonna find out what happens when you mess with Americans!
SLAUGHTER: Lowrance, you’re dismissed!
VTR:
Dusty Rhodes is sitting on the ring apron in an empty Sportatorium.
DUSTY: The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes here, just waiting for the show to start, baby! Terry Funk has been running the American Dream down here lately. Funk, I lost the World’s Heavyweight Title to a great wrestler and a tough man in David Von Erich. You were World’s champion once and you lost the title yourself. Nobody is champion forever! How dare you badmouth me and all that I have accomplished? I think maybe you are jealous that David is champion and you are not! Well, Terry, if you want to settle this like men, daddy, why don’t you go to Duke Keomuka and sign the dotted line to wrestle the Dream? I’ve got it on with you before, Funk and I’m ready to do it again! And once I take care of you, I’ll be ready once again to challenge David Von Erich and I know you people love him, for that World’s Heavyweight Title! COMMERCIAL
Jim Cornette , the Midnight Express, and David Shults are at ringside with Mark Lowrance. Cornette,Eaton, and Condrey are wearing party hats. Shults has a bottle in a paper bag that he occasionally takes a drink from.
LOWRANCE: I’m here with the new Texas Tag Team Champions, who are celebrating what I consider a tainted victory…
CORNETTE: Oh, Lowarnce stop raining on my parade! Look at this, boys!
A man in a chef’s hat and uniform wheels in a large sheet cake. He brings it to ringside, stops and kisses Cornette on each cheek.
CHEF: Monsieur James! My finest work, compliments of your sweet Mama! Bon appetite, mon ami!
CORNETTE: Mama’s personal baker, Jean Pierre! Tres magnifique, JP! What a great night January 1st was! We beat the Von Erichs fair and square for the tag titles! Dr. D here beat that goofy cowpoke David within an inch of his life, and I got news that Mam’s favorite wrestler in the whole world, Gino Hernandez, has agreed to join the Cornette Dynasty! Have some cake, everybody!
Eaton cuts slices of cake and puts the cake on saucers. Eaton offers Lowrance some cake, but he refuses. Shults smiles, shakes his head, and takes another swig from his bottle. Eaton and Condrey sit on the ring apron, eating cake.
LOWRANCE: What a blockbuster! Gino Hernandez is now in a managerial agreement with you?
CORNETTE (eating cake): This is great cake, Lowrance, you should have some. As skinny as you are, you need all of the carbohydrates and calories you can get! Life is good for James E. Cornette and nothing can bring me down! With Mama’s money, my brains, and my men’s ability, I’ll rule World Class!
KEVIN VON ERICH AND SCOTT CASEY RUN OUT AND SLAM CORNETTE’S FACE INTO THE CAKE! Cornette, falls to the floor and kicks and screams, throwing a childish tantrum! The Express and Shults help him up.
CORNETTE: *****BLEEP****** Get that microphone over here, Lowrance! What was that? How dare you two punks put your hands on a Cornette! ****BLEEP****My Midnight Express are gonna kill you jerks!
LOWRANCE: Get him out of here, PLEASE!
Cornette is led away by his men as Lowrance tries not to laugh.
COMMERCIAL
As the crowd chants “USA USA”, Nikolai Volkoff & Ivan Koloff wrestle Lars Anderson & Johnny Rich. During the bout, Sgt. Slaughter shows up at ringside, waving Old Glory. Lars and Johnny give the Russsians a great match. The Russians pull out a win when Volkoff pins Anderson after an over the knee backbreaker. The Russians yell at Sarge, but he stays at ringside, waving the flag. COMMERCIAL
MERCER: I’m here with Al Madril. Last week, you surprised many of us by saying that you were no longer to be introduced as Prince Albert.
MADRIL: Bill, I listened to the wrong people and let everybody, including myself down. I’m Alberto adril, not some prince or king or court jester. I apologize to Iceman and all the other people who I turned my back on. The old Al Madril is back and I’m ready for action! If Alfred hays doesn’t like that, it’s just too bad!
MERCER: Actually, his Lordship had some comments earlier….
VTR:
Lord Alfred Hays is standing in front of the World Class logo.
HAYS: There are few things that I find as distasteful as ingratitude. Madril, I made you into something special. Under my guidance, you stepped out from the shadows of Iceman Parsons and the Von Erichs to have the greatest successs of your career. Now, you are throwing it all away for nothing. Just to prove some childish point. Now, you must face terrible consequences. I have signed a team that you know very well. They thrashed you and that peasant Iceman Parsons for the Texas tag Team Titles and now, I am bringing them back to take care of you. Since none of your former friends can trust you, Madril, you will probably have to face these men on your own. One of the top young wrestlers in the World has signed with World Class and we’ll be hearing about him next week! Also, a great MAIN EVENT! USA against Russia as Sgt. Slaughter takes on Nikolai Volkoff! Right now, here’s this weeks’ MAIN EVENT!
Scott Casey and Kevin Von Erich enter to the strains of “LaGrange” by ZZ Top. Cornette, the remains of his cake still on his sports coat, enters the ring and grabs the mic…
CORNETTE:If General Santa Anna were alive today, this would be his favorite tag team, because they are gonna leave Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett over there for dead! Loverboy Dennis and Beautiful Bobby, THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS!!!!
Cornette has his men fired up and they take it right to Kevin and Casey. David Shults comes to ringside, still carrying his bag with the bottle inside and stands by Cornette. After almost fifteen minutes of action, Kevin, Condrey,and referee Nick Roberts have a three way collision and the ref winds up face down in a neutral corner. Kevin applies the iron claw and has Condrey pinned, but the ref is out! Eaton comes in and is cut off by Casey! OH NO! Shults gets into the ring! DR. D SLAMS HIS BOTTLE OVER KEVIN’S HEAD AND KNOCKS HIM SILLY! Shults puts Condrey on top of Kevin and rolls out of the ring as the ref comes to! The ref counts Kevin down and the Midnight Express retain their titles! The Sportatorium crowd is about to riot! Cornette and his men run aout of the arena as Kerry comes in to check on his brother! We’ll see you next week on World Class!
