Opening Theme
Roger Kent & Ron Trongard welcome the fans to Heartland Wrestling. Trongard announces there is a new United States champion in Jim Brunzell defeating Ken Patera for the title. Now since the loss, Patera has left Heartland to head to an easier promotion. New tag team champions were crowned on New Years as well when the team of Nick Bockwinkel & “The Crippler” Ray Stevens defeated Bobby Jaggers & Steve Williams in a match that was not theirs to have. Footage will be out later for that. Kent tells the fans at home that this week will have the US Junior champion in action, the Pretty Boys will debut. The Can-Am tag team title tournament starts tonight when the team that was supposed to get the US tag title shot on New Years, Prince Maivia & Superfly Tui, take on Stampede Wrestling’s The Mercenaries. A 6-man tag match and more including the main event television title defence awaits the fans.  We get sent to the first match.

US Junior Championship Match: Tim Horner (Champion)defends the US Junior title successfully against newcomer El Dandy after using the roll up with a bridge to pin the Mexican wrestler.

####After The Match####
Tim Horner joins up with Mean Gene Okerlund. Horner tells Okerlund that once again he has kept the US junior title out of the hands of someone not worthy. Okerlund lets him know that former AWA world junior champion Fishman is here in Heartland now and is looking at the US Junior title. Horner tells him to bring on Fishman, Lizmark, El Dandy....well not El Dandy because he just got beat in the centre of the ring. He does not care who is put in front of him, he will be the US Junior champion until he decides he does not want to be anymore.

Johnny Valiant joins Okerlund at ringside. He lets Okerlund know that even though Patera dropped the ball and lost the title, and even though he has kicked Patera out of Heartland, the Valiant Empire is still as strong as it can possibly be. Not only does he control the real and only true world tag team champions, in the AWA world tag team champs, Adonis & Ventura, sooner than later he will be bringing in some very big names to run that puny jerk Jim Brunzell out of Heartland with the Us heavyweight belt back in the Empire. When asked who he has coming in, Valiant calls Okerlund a divot head and it is none of his business and to just pay attention.

The Pretty Boys (Doug Somers & Larry Sharpe) debut as a team, taking on and being victorious against the team of Jake Milliman & Jules Strongbow. The match comes to an end when Sharpe school boy’s Milliman, holding the tights as he does so.

####After The Match####
The Pretty Boys are with Okerlund after their match. Sharpe informs Okerlund that he is looking at future tag team champions, be it the US titles or the Can-Am tag team titles. When informed that they are not even in the Can-Am tournament, Sharpe lets Okerlund know that no matter what was said before, The Pretty Boys, and there is no team prettier, will have one of those belts, if not the AWA world tag team titles. All it will take is the one shot that the Boys know everyone who has a belt are scared to give. Okerlund disagrees that anyone would be scared of them as we head out to commercial.

Before the first match in the tournament to crown the Can-Am tag team champions, it is announced that due to Blackjack Lanza having the Heartland television title, the team of Blackjack Lanza & Jules Strongbow will be replaced by the team of Steve Williams & Brad Rheingans. This brings us to the first match.

Round #1 of the Tournament to Crown Can-Am Tag Team Champions: The Mercenaries, Frenchy Martin & Pierre Lefebvre, took on and defeated the team of Prince Maivia & Superfly Tui in a hard hitting fashion. The match comes to a finish after Lefebvre delivers a vicious piledriver on Maivia, getting the pin after.

####After The Match####
Lefebvre & Martin are with Okerlund. Lefebvre asks where the tough tag teams are? For years they have heard about The Crusher, Mad Dog Vachon, The Blackjacks, The High Flyers, even Adonis & Ventura, who are tag team champions of the world only because they have not faced the best tag team in the world. The Mercenaries have already beaten every tag team Canada has to offer, now it is time to demolish all the American pride, bringing the Can-Am tag team belts back to Canada where they belong.

##Commercial #3##

With the first match done, it is announced that next week, from Canada, The Masters of Disaster, Duke Myers & Kerry Brown, will be coming to Chicago to take on the team of Brad Rheingans & Steve Williams. This brings out “Precious” Paul Ellering and his charge Animal. Ellering explains that he is out there to scout potential people to join his “Legion of Doom”. So far he has Animal but more are coming in the next few weeks. Once that happens, once he is ready, then he will unleash a group of wrestlers so deadly, so damaging that the AWA will close shop as it will be easier than trying to handle the force of the Legion of Doom. He orders the match to be started so he can look at the people involved.

Brad Rheingans, Bob Roop, & Steve Williams team for the first time, wrestling against as well as coming up short against the newly formed team of Jumbo Tsuruta, Kendo Nagasaki, and Adnan El-Kaisee. While technically great, Williams is lured in to a rookie mistake that allows Tsuruta to catch him in a bridging German suplex for the pin.

####After The Match####
Ring legend Harley Race is with Mean Gene. He tells Gene that a goal he has not attained so far is the AWA World heavyweight title belt. That is something he has been looking for and is listed as one of his accomplishments before he leaves this sport. The way to that title is the Heartland US heavyweight title and the boy who holds it will get his first lessons in being a man very soon. All it will take is for Race to have one shot at that title. Before he can get to that shot however, he has heard that the renegade, the man who plays by no man’s rules but his own, Bruiser Brody is somewhere in the arena. He has had his share of run ins with Brody numerous times with nothing being solved, nothing being dealt with. That will change. If Brody wants to end this cycle of violence that surrounds them, Race is more than happy to do just that. Then...then the US title will be his on the way to the AWA World heavyweight title.

##Commercial #4##

The new US tag team champions, Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens come out to ringside. Stevens pulls Okerlund out with him, making him stand still. Bockwinkel tells Okerlund that he has outsmarted the entire world when he rejoined Ray Stevens. They took the United States tag team titles in their first match as a rebuilt tag team machine. All day they have seen teams come in like these Mercenaries, while a tough team, not good enough wrestlers for Bockwinkel & Stevens to worry about. Obviously those peons that were incapacitated on the way to their tag team title shot do not matter. But this Legion of Doom that Paul Ellering is putting together might be something. The High Flyers are nothing, Curt Hennig and his old man are nothing. Bob Roop and his two rookie children, Brad Rheingans & Steve Williams are nothing. Yes, they are fantastic amateurs, but this is professional wrestling. In that aspect, they are nothing. These belts are the corner stone of any professional wrestling outfit and they are held by the two best professional wrestlers in the world today bar none. All these tag teams are making a run for the AWA World tag team championship? The road starts and ends with Bockwinkel and Stevens.

Television Championship Match: Blackjack Lanza (Champion) defends the title successfully against Baron Von Raschke in a match that breaks down to a wild brawl outside the ring as well as inside. The finish happens while Lanza & Raschke are brawling outside. Lanza posts The Baron and makes it back in to the ring right at the 9 count, effectively winning via count out.

####After The Match####
Lanza joins Okerlund in front of an AWA sign. Okerlund says that Lanza has had a bit of a change in attitude since winning the television title. Lanza said of course he had. The title is a way for him to get more money. Okerlund tells him that his brutal match with Jules Strongbow will have repercussions as well as his brutal attack on Baron Von Raschke just a few minutes ago. Lanza tells him he has a solution. He has hired someone to manage his affairs so all Lanza has to do is defend that television title against any joker that wants to get in the ring with him and risk getting the claw put on him. AS Lanza talks, Baron Von Raschke gets some retribution from a back attack, slamming a forearm in to Lanza and restarting the brawl as we go off the air.

Horner disrespecting the Mexican contingent could be a bad move. The Pretty Boys are a vintage AWA team. The Mercenaries have to be favs in the Can-Am tourney. Excited to see how Ellering's legion fleshes out. Race going after Brunzell through Brody is a real tough road. Bockwinkel and Stevens with a spot on evaluation of the tag talent. LOL. Lanza and The Baron going at it just fits.

Great action in Heartland.

Good TV matches.  Excellent job establishing things - where they are, what has happened and what might be coming.

Like the inter-promotion Can-Am idea & hope it carries on, should be worth the extra effort.  Smart use of Horner to "mainstream" any luchas in the area.

Two thumbs up.
