World Wrestling Association & AWA Heartland News
Jan 6th, 2013, 1:45pm

January 1st 1983 started a brand new year. It also started the return of a great wrestling tradition...

The WORLD WRESTLING ASSOCIATION

AWA President Verne Gagne, and L. Afflis have joined together to bring professional wrestling back to Indiana. The World Wrestling Association has been a name synonymous with solid professional wrestling as well as the very best in the world, the American Wrestling Association. Together those are two names that will bring the sport in to the forefront.  Indiana will be in for a treat.

Illinois fans...you are not left out. Long time Illinois promoter Bob Luce will be bringing you the best of the WWA and Heartland every week with spectacular action. He has contracted the talent on Heartland Wrestling, including the Heartland United States champions, Ray Stevens & Nick Bockwinkel, the High Flyers, Sheik Adnan El-Kaisee and more, will be mixing it up with the WWA talent like Dick The Bruiser, “One Man Gang” Ronnie Garvin, Lanny Poffo & George Weingroff, “Hangman” Bobby Jaggers, and the rest of the WWA mat stars.

The WWA will not only recognize the AWA world heavyweight, tag team, and junior titles, but the WWA heavyweight, tag team, and the Indiana/Illinois State championship. The State champion will represent both Indiana & Illinois as their state champion depending on the state they are in. For example, if the champion is defending in Indiana, they will be the Indiana State champion, if Illinois, it will be the Illinois on the line.

The live show will be recorded on Thursday evening, airing on Sundays throughout the dual state area. Live shows throughout the week will be coming to an area near you. The WWA will be live in such towns as Muncie, Kokomo, Fort Wayne, Peoria, and every Saturday night, the WWA will be in Chicago.

The WWA Heavyweight title will be crowned this week in Chicago in a one night, 8 man tournament that will include Indiana legend Dick the Bruiser, Ron Garvin, Bobby Jaggers, The Assassin. In the Illinois section will have The Crusher, Bob Roop, Jesse Ventura, and Baron Von Raschke . One night only in Chicago, will the WWA champion be crowned. The WWA tag team championship will be crowned in the first television show when the team of Ken Lucas & Ricky Gibson takes on The Devil’s Duo with their manager Izzy Slapowitz. The state title will be done over a round robin tournament between Mark Fleming, Dick Steinborn, & “The Hunter” Dale Veasey. It will be a tough run, but the person with the most points at the end of the round robin, will be the state champion.

All this and more action will come every week so keep your time free and make sure to get your tickets when the World Wrestling Association comes to your city or town.

I am assuming that WWA will be run a little like the co-op between Stampede and Heartland. I like the line-ups you are using in the WWA tourney. Good decision to have one tag match for the tag belts. Round robin is different for you state title. Can't wait to see how this comes out.

Good prolgue type post, good background.  Love that Bob...Luce, that is.

Am I guessing right you have referred to the "paper" owner of the franchise is Mrs. Bruiser (as IRL).  Nice to get the feel of advice from a shifty lawyer or accountant involved in wrestling!
