GCW: Atlanta, Columbus 1/6,7/83 Easy, Rotundo!!
Jan 8th, 2013, 4:58pm

Georgia State Sports Arena
Atlanta, Georgia January 6, 1983 7 PM
Referees: Scrappy McGowan, Nick Patrick, Tommy Weathers

Thunderfoot Prime defeats Johnny Mantell with a loaded head butt @ 6:00. (M)

Davey O’Hannon defeats Barry Horowitz with a butterfly suplex @ 9:22. (P)

Mike Doggendorf defeats Karl Von Shotz with a middle rope shoulder block following a missed fist drop by Von Shotz @ 8:57. (W)

Wendell Cooley/Sweet Brown Sugar vs. Randy Rose/Norvell Austin
The infamous chain comes out of the boots of the Midnight Express members throughout this one. The end comes while Sugar and Austin are fighting on the floor. In the ring, Rose ducks a Cooley superkick and uses the chain to drop the young lion. McGowan doesn’t see the infraction and allows the pin @ 12:55. (M)

Dory Funk, Jr. vs. Mike Rotundo w/James J. Dillon
Funk loses it following the constant interference of Dillon in this one. He chases Dillon around the ring late. He does catch the manager and even posts him. But, Nick Patrick has made the COUNOUT call, giving Rotundo the win @ 16:03. (P)

The Syracuse grad celebrates like he has won the National Championship.

******INTERMISSION******

Georgia heavyweight Title
Dick Slater vs. Bobby Duncum w/Sir Oliver Humperdink

Humperdink’s strategy, whatever it was, backfires. The rotund one is caught by a flying reverse elbow from Duncum while on the apron. He falls to the floor and Duncum checks on him. Slater gets in a roll-up for the winning title defesne @ 22:04. (W)

Slater quickly slides out, leaving Hump and Duncum pitching a fit.

Municipal Auditorium
Columbus, Georgia January 7, 1983 7 PM
Referee: Scrappy McGowan

Jerry Grey/Tony Zane defeat Georgia hornet/Ted Petty when Zane gets a submission from Petty using a bear hug @ 7:33.

Joel Deaton defeats Barry Horowitz
with a running boot to the face @ 8:37.

Thunderbolt Patterson defeats Kurt Von Hess with an atomic drop that Bolt turns into an abdominal stretch @ 9:00.

National Television Title
Steve Olsonoski vs. Rip Rogers ©

Rogers is the member of the Midnight Express defending the TV belt tonight. As the clock runs down, Rogers seems EXTRA SLOW getting back in the ring. Olsonoski is intense, trying to motivate Rogers back in. A flying clothesline from Steve O is not quite enough, with the bell ringing at the 15-minute arena time limit. The match is A DRAW.

Tony Atlas vs. Jim Duggan w/James J. Dillon
Atlas has Duggan trapped in a sleeper for what seems like the winning move. Dillon grabs at Duggan’s foot and put it across the bottom rope. Atlas is livid and argues with the manager. Duggan shakes off the effects of the sleeper and catches Atlas with a spear when he turns around. Dillon pushes Tony’s foot off the ropes this time on the cover, cementing his charge’s victory @ 17:37.

Atlas goes after the cheating pair after the match. Dillon and Duggan barely escape the ring area.

******INTERMISSION******

National tag team Titles
Jack/Jerry Brisco vs. The Long Riders (Cowboy Ron Bass/Black Bart) w/Sir Oliver Humperdink

This match is very competitive with both Jerry and Bart getting their right knees worked on. Bart tries to work through the pain but the injury proves to be too much. Bart is slow getting to the top turnbuckle. Jack moves away from the Texas Compactor and Bart hits hard. Brisco applies a figure four for the win @ 21:00.

After the match, Bass takes “Betsy” out of the corner and slams both Jack and Jerry with the bull whip handle. Bart recovers and helps put Jack in the ropes. Then, both Riders lift Jerry into a double suplex. The Briscos are helpless when Hump’s men leave the ring.

Hey, Rotundo should celebrate, he beat Dory, Jr. Maybe he's going to DisneyWorld next! lol.

Slater versus Duncum... Man, that's just BRUTAL!

Oh Boy, tough day for Mantell...got beat by the generic Thunderfoot. Ouch!

Doggendorf with a great showing against Von Shotz!

Midnight Express just keep winning.

T-Bolt was always a crowd favorite no matter where you put him on the card.

Great showing by Steve O. Rogers has got to feel lucky after that match.

Atlas having problems with Dillon and Duggan.

The Long Riders are making their presence known. Somehow, I dont think the Briscos will let that infraction go without something being done. Hmmmmm...wondering if there is a Briscos - Steamboat and Youngblood moment coming soon?

GREAT couple of house shows.
