Maple Leaf Wrestling presents
"SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING"
All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance - Vincent McMahon, President

Taped at the Hamilton Forum, Tuesday January 1st.  Syndicated broadcast on regional channels.

We open the show in the interview area with Milt Avruskin at the podium.  Admiring each other's belts are Kurt & Karl Von Steiger.

MA:  "The Von Steigers still holding our tag titles, and, frankly, had a pretty good match December 29th against the NWA WORLD cham..."

Kurt bellows first:  "FORMER!  Good match?  We scared the ZISSIES champs so bad, they LOSE next match...WE MAKED zissy boys LOSERS!"

Karl begins shouting:  "AND ZAT is where we must find CHALLENGES!  Bring in NEW NWA guys, NO VUN here face us!"

MA:  "Actually, The Caribbean Sunshine Boys have NOT lost in quite a while and SHOULD..."

Kurt has an answer to that:  "YOU keep SUNSHINEY BOYS...like dirty old Menacker has his SUNSHINE GIRLIES..."

Norm Kimber has the opening match to introfuce.

Match 1 Dave Kochen vs. "The Alaskan" Jay York
One fall 10 minutes

Milt has slid into his chair at the announce desk, next to "Slamming" Sammy Menacker.

MA:  "Welcome to another exciting episode of "Superstars of Wrestling"...we open the action with two of our newer stars".

SM:  "Apparently, there are changes all around the world of wrestling, Milton.  The Von Steigers referred to the new NWA World Tag champs, Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood..."

Kochen is getting pretty well snookered here.

MA:  "The WORLD title has changed hands - young David Von Erich defeating Dusty Rhodes.  And Maple Leaf had booked a date for the now-former Junior-Heavyweight champ Chavo Guerrero - he has fallen to young English star Chris Adams..."

SM:  "Maybe we could tell Adams the match against Denny Brown is in Windsor Castle, not Windsor Ontario...OH, Kochen has submitted to an arm-bar".

COMMERCIAL 1 - This week's episode sponsored by Tim Horton's

Norm Kimber reminds us about impending LIVE shows - tonight in London, Sunday in Mississauga, Wednesday in Welland and the big card in Windsor on Saturday the 19th featuring Abdullah the Butcher, Joyce Grable & the new NWA Junior-Heavyweight champ Chris Adams.

NK:  "Now - step right in, gentlemen - we're joined by "Mean" Mike Miller AND his NEW advisor, Killer Kowalski".

Kowalski always good for a round of booing & hissing.

MMM:  "Gonna hafta disagree with y'all - I wouldn't hook up with NO-body, 'less they had whut it takes to get me a title match with KINISKI...go ahead..."

KK:  "That IS the case, we have TWO ways of going about this...the HARD way, or the EASY way!  Kiniski KNOWS I'm NOT the type to call in markers, balance old scores...repay FAVORS.  But Kiniski DARN WELL knows, back in the day - GENE KINISKI was in a JAM, and he called on ME!"

NK:  "This is news to me..."

KK:  "Look it up, I headed out to Vancouver to bail Gene out.  When Kiniski organized his Polish militia - well, I didn't grouse about being left out...don't roll your eyes, Kimber!  I've rode to the rescue of PLENTY of guys - ask Monsoon, Skull Murphy, Dr. Bill Miller..."

NK:  "No denying you had a LONG career...a LONG while ago...but what is THE HARD WAY you mentioned?"

KK:  "The HARD way is going through ANY roadblocks he can think of...Miller has BEAT Morowski, Boulder's A PUNK, Siki has lost his marbles, Igor wandered off to Detroit...if Kiniski wants us to make a sacrifice of THE GREAT WOJO, we'll KILL him!"

MMM:  "Get it?  KILLER Kowalski, KILLER Joe Nova...NOW "KILLER" MIKE MILLER!"

We return to the desk & catch Sammy dunking a cruller...

MA:  "We'll get Sam's insight in a jiff...but it seems THE KILLERS are hatching a scheme..."

SM:  "HAFF-kaff, I must say, Kowalski & Miller might be a well-matched tandem, kaffff...Killers, Convicts, that Svetlana was no Mary Poppins, quite the Motley Crue we have".

No, it's Bob Seger, Sam.

Match 2 Buck Zumhofe vs. The Convict
One fall 10 minutes

The Rock & Roller bopping out with "Old Time Rock & Roll" blaring from the boom-box.  Prolonged meet & greet as we seem to have a delay.

AND we got a surprise...out come TWO men in CONVICT GEAR.

COMMERCIAL 2 - It's Alan Thicke!  "Weekdays on your local station, check out PRIME CUTS - with Alan Thicke - HEY, that's ME!  Enjoy the rest of SUPERSTARS of WRESTLING!"

The two fugitive types are grilling Kimber.

NK:  "Errr, we have CONVICT #1 AND CONVICT #2...the CONVICTS!"

Not quite right - Number #1, somewhat smaller takes the mic.

C1:  "It's Convict #1 and #2...but we're THE ALABAMA CHAIN GANG!  And I'm #1 and I'm takin' on the crazy hippie here..."

SM:  "Fugitives from an Alabama chain-gang...Milton, that means HARD TIME, these aren't the Beagle Boys from the funny papers!"

Bigger #2 stays as cornerman & that is a hard time for Buck!

MA:  "The SMALLER one is legal, but from a distance, who could tell them apart - I swear that was #2 with the splash, now all three on the floor again..."

SM:  "And as you might guess, this pair of former inmates are NOT listening to the referee's warning...we get a count-out and Buck is unceremoniously left in a heap!"

Norm has the Caribbean Sunshine Boys in the ring - they had been out to make sure Zumhofe hadn't been roughed up.

NK:  "I see you got a close-up look at the Alabama Chain Gang..."

"Butcher" Bond:  "Seem like a couple of desperate characters, but they've shown up at the wrong time".

Johnny Kincaid has the scoop!

JK:  "What the Butcher means is we JUST signed a match on the 19th - those Berlin big-mouths were out earlier?  WE get a shot at the Von Steiger Brothers for the tag belts!"

NK:  "That is great to hear, good luck in your match here today AND in Windsor!"

At the desk Sam analyzes.

SM:  "A big opportunity for Bond & Johnny.  The Von Steigers have not been tested much and the two chaps from the West Indies have made an impression here in Canada.  And a good time to get a tune-up here today".

COMMERCIAL 3

Match 3 Caribbean Sunshine Boys (Johnny Kincaid & Dave "Butcher" Bond) vs. Johnny War Eagle & Nick DeCarlo
One fall 10 minutes

MA:  "Fans, we join this match in progress, we're about three minutes in & Nick DeCarlo has been in against both Bond & Kincaid - he might need a tag".

SM:  "A clean match, but the Caribbeans are very smooth in getting a little double-teaming in as they switch...all perfectly legal".

War Eagle with an ill-advised entry as he tags in.  A cross-body tackle from the top ropes puts him in Kincaid's arms for a slam.

MA:  "Fans, I have just gotten word that Dick Beddoes has been asked to do an unscheduled interview!  We'll find out about that after this match...Johnny War Eagle is on the floor after getting a double-dropkick!"

DeCarlo helps his partner back in but War Eagle is worse for wear.  Two more bodyslams from Bond & an inside cradle.

MA:  "The Sunshine Boys are well aware they face a tougher team in the title match...I understand Dick is ready..."

Cut to the interview podium where cigar-chomping sportswriter Dick Beddoes pushes his fedora back as Moose Morowski & The Great Wojo step in.

DB:  "The Great Wojo heard what Killer Kowalski & Killer Mike Miller had to say earlier and wants to respond RIGHT NOW!"

Wojo looks hot to trot, big Moose looks on with concern.

Wojo:  "Those two guys, saying they're Killers, trying to put a SQUEEZE on Gene Kiniski?  Trying to make ME a pawn?  Well, Gene isn't here today but I'll answer for myself.  I have been helped a LOT by Gene, Moose, other guys...I'll stand up to Miller!  We've dealt with the Germans, the Russians, right, Moose?"

MM:  "Woj, hold your horses, Gene'll be here next week, we better talk it over & NOT play into Kowalski's plans..."

DB:  "Fans, it looks like we have a situation developing and I am sure the NWA Canadian Heavyweight champ, big Gene Kiniski, will have a decision next week!"

Back at the desk, THE GOLDEN LADDER props are being put into place.

MA:  "Something BIG to look forward to on "Superstars of Wrestling" NEXT week - and after the break, Ron Ritchie climbs the Golden Ladder again - with IRON MIKE SHARPE challenging him!"

COMMERCIAL 4

We return & Sharpe is lurching about the ring, bellowing in his charming sing-song voice.  Ritchie enters with the TV strap.

Match 4 Ron Ritchie © vs. Iron Mike Sharpe
One fall 10 minutes
MAPLE LEAF CANADIAN TELEVISION TITLE

MA:  "Iron Mike Sharpe is certainly the biggest - and loudest - challenger for Ron's TV title".

Clip of the GOLDEN LADDER, with the names of Sharpe & Ritchie on the bottom level.

SM:  "Sharpe claims he is here to dethrone Gene Kiniski, making a run up the ladder might be the most efficient method to reach that goal".

Sharpe has Ritchie pushed against the ropes - a clean break?  Not on your nellie, Sharpe telegraphs a wild swing of the braced forearm that is easily evaded.

MA:  "As we re-check the cards in the barrel every show - I have to fess up!  I was not taken by surprise when we saw the second Chain Gang member, as his card was added..."

Sharpe may need some time in the batting cage!  Ritchie has been whipped to a  corner, a blow with the unreinforced left barely grazes the champ - the sturdier arm makes a direct hit!

To the top buckle.  Sharpe to the floor in a bellowing rage!  Grunts about being the Greatest Athalete, he vents some more by kicking some unoccupied chairs.  As he returns ringside, Ron flies off the apron with a double-sledge.  JUST as our ushers have straightened the seats, Mike takes a leg-sweep & Ritchie bowls him back in...Ron watches the laborious extrication of the Sharpe one as we have a count of 20...Mike really gives the furniture a pummelling now!

Result Match 4 - Ron Ritchie © defeats Mike Sharpe via CO @ 4:40
UP TO THE SECOND RUNG - can he do it AGAIN?

MA:  "Let's see who faces the champ next week and we have a SPECIAL SUNshine Girl to help!  Check out this weekend's Toronto SUN and read about Playboy Magazine's BUNNY HUNT in Toronto, please welcome from Playboy, the captivating Crystal!"

Yes, Sam, your dreams CAN come true!  In full Bunny regalia, Crystal pulls a card...

MA:  "Thank you, Crystal...good BOY, Sammy!  Buck Zumhofe faces Ron next week!"

While suddenly all-thumbs Sam helps Crys slide the cards on level two, Milt keeps a wary eye on possible shenanigans!

MA:  "Hopefully the Rock & Roller did not get too dinged up by the Alabama boys...ATTA GUY, SAM!"

Menacker had offered the woman of his dreams a gentlemanly handshake & got rewarded with a peck on the cheek.  Sam leads enthusiastic applause as we go to break.

COMMERCIAL 5

We return for the intro's of the nightcap.

Match 5 Moose Morowski vs. Pete Sanchez
Falls to TV time limit

As we get the bell, out come all three KILLERS - Miller, Nova & Kowalski.

SM:  "An important match for the big Moose, HE has stepped up to fsce the madman from the Sudan - Abdullah the Butcher - in Windsor on the 19th.  Morowski does NOT need distractions here, as Sanchez is a rugged veteran!"

Distracting is the order of business - the fearsome threesome each take a side & implore Pete to toss big Moose out to them!

MA:  "I was thinking there was NO possible "EASY" way for Gene Kiniski to deal with Kowalski!  They do a fine impersonation of piranhas here!"

Morowski has had a headlock on Pete, they're on their knees now, with Morowski grinding away while looking over his shoulders...

SM:  "Moose has Sanchez pretty well neutralized in this position but might not want to take...well, I guess it doesn't matter now!"

The Great Wojo shows his youthful exuberance & runs out!  Miller & Nova converge!  Moose drops Sanchez but before he makes it to the floor..."ROCKY" ED BOULDER & JOHNNY POWERS run out!

OH!  Kowalski drops the Moose with a set of knucks...Big red "X" covers the action

MA:  "Sam, we should have another exciting show next week, we'll see you all then!"

We fade to black with a Mexican standoff - Morowski, Wojo are backed up by Powers & Boulder as THE KILLERS edge away.

I really like the Kowalski-Kiniski "repayment of a debt" angle. But, i dig even more the Wojo-Miller match-up. Two young studs beating each other up. Love that the Polish Army has stayed around. Liked the opening with York. The vet as a submission specialist would be a fun way to go. Hope the Sunshine Boys beat those German blowhards.

BG, I enjoy that you are continuing to say with and build around you original pick-ups. Love your commercials. A real nice touch.
