NWA Florida TV 1/12/83 Tag title announcement!
Jan 11th, 2013, 4:28pm

Championship Wrestling from Florida presents: Southern Championship Wrestling
Telecast 11/12/83 across the Sunshine States with Gordon Solie, Buddy Colt, and Barbara Cleary

*All matches sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance*

Interviews and Announcements:
-      Gordon Solie is joined right away by Eddie Graham, who tells that it has taken the NWA Board of Directors the full two weeks, but they have come back with a decision that is both fair and binding. But before Graham can reveal the decision, he is interrupted by Jesse Barr and Mike George who seem very confident about the decision. “Mr. Graham, you don’t even have to waste your breath because the fans of Florida know what answer the NWA Board of Directors gave you. Without any coaching, they have handed back to Jesse and I the Florida Tag Team belts and finally have recognized us as the world wide number one contenders to the NWA tag titles. No need to confirm this. We’ve had our sources up in New York, with glasses up to the wall. Jesse and I will be happy to take those belts off your hand and sign the contract in that envelope to get the match we are certainly due.” To this smugness, Eddie opens the envelope and announces that the NWA Board of Directors has declared the Florida Tag Team title vacant and to be determined in a first of its kind match in Florida; a 2-ring, double elimination battle royal with the last men standing in both rings to be recognized as the Florida Tag Team Champions. The match to take place January 21st in the Bayfront Center in St. Petersburg. Barr and George flip out and threaten, but the decision is binding.

-      Florida Heavyweight Champion Butch Reed joins Buddy and tells how he knows there are bigger and better things ahead of him. “The fans here in Florida are some of the best in this sport. They know more about what a real wrestler looks like and can do than anywhere else in this nation. That’s why when they see Butch Reed they see a future World Champion. Greg Valentine thinks he can beat up on men like Omar Atlas or Barry Windham and there’s nobody to stop him. Well Buddy, Greg Valentine need the type of lesson only a man bigger and stronger can teach. It’s to respect those you see on the way up, because you just might see them on the way down. And Valentine, I’ll make sure you’re going down.”

-      Mike Graham and Brian Blair tell Barbara that they will make the most of the chances they have in front of them in St. Petersburg. “No, Barbara, Brian and I aren’t happy with the decision made by the NWA Board of Directors. He and I know we are a better team than Barr and George, than the Malenkos, than Taylor and Breaks, better than any tag team in Florida. But we will be there in the Bayfront Center on the 21st and all we can do is give it 100% and we’ll hope to be Florida Tag Team Champions at the end of the night.”

-      Southern Heavyweight Champion Greg Valentine tells Buddy that he’s tired of little men questioning his ability. “Just in case you can’t read what it says here on the top of my belt Butch Reed, it says Southern Heavyweight Champion. Nobody handed me this belt. I won it. Maybe you don’t like how I won this belt, but I did win it. I beat that punk kid Barry Windham and took this belt off of him just like he did the man before him, Paul Jones, who beat the man before him. Just like you beat Kevin Sullivan to become the Florida Heavyweight Champion. This sport is about winning and losing. Doing everything necessary you can keep that man’s shoulders to the mat for 3 whole seconds. That is the measure of a man. Not if he cuts a few corners, or bends the rules to get the result. In the end, only wins and losses matter. And if you want in the ring with me Reed, I will remind you what losing feels like. I will show you that big or small, I will hurt whoever I need to so I remain Southern Heavyweight Champion. Barry Windham knows it. I’ll be happy to repeat the lesson for you.”

-      Gordon is joined by NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Chris Adams. Chris tells Gordon how he’s excited to come to Florida and wrestle where greats like Hiro Matsuda, Gerry Brisco, and Mike Graham have proven themselves. This brings out Bill Ash and the Professor has words for the new champion. “Boy, let me tell you something and I’m gonna use plain words so you can’t mix’em up in translation. Right here, right now, I’m the best Junior Heavyweight in the state of Florida. It ain’t Mike Graham, or those commie Malenko brothers. You’re gonna go all over the NWA looking for a man to challenger you for that belt so you can stop looking. I ain’t afraid of you and your chop sockey Judo baloney. But just so you don’t mistake me…” Ash slaps the champion and then the Masked Superstar #2 jumps in and attacks Adams until TV Champion Brett Sawyer rushes back to the set to even the odds and clear the set before the end of the telecast.

Matches for this Telecast:
-      “The Canadian Bruiser” Bob Sweetan defeats Pete Doherty with a pile driver.

-      Florida Heavyweight Champion Butch Reed defeats “Bulldog” Bob Brown with a flying shoulder tackle in a non-title match.

-      Mike Graham and Brian Blair defeat Cowboy Parker and “Cowboy” Tony Falk after Blair delivers a missile drop kick to Parker.

-      The One Man Gang defeats Shane Douglas with a 747 splash.

-      In the TV main event, Florida TV Champion Brett Sawyer defeats the Nightmare in a hard fought match that sees the masked man try and pull out every dirty trick he can to take the title, only to get a big Russian leg sweep for his trouble.

Reed delivers a championship promo and goes out and beats a tough Bob Brown. Ash and Adams could be a good program. Can't wait for that big BR for the tag belts.

Good show.

Great TV...Reed could put an end to the Hammer's reign of terror...I hope Adams superkicks Ash's mouth and shuts him up...I'm really intrigued about the possibilities of the upcoming battle royal...Imagine Sullivan & Roberts coming out as Champions, or Blair & Barr, or George & Graham...I'll be tuning in...Great work!

Very well written promo by Valentine.  Captured my attention.

The two ring battle royal should yield an interesting result.

Up to sate in FL!  The marquee programs are progressing well, a good pace to hold interest.

The balance between the promo's, interviews, announcements and the ring action is excellent and tell the sories very well.
