Atlantic States Tag Team Champions Brickhouse Brown and Johnny Weaver put their belts on the line against Ole and Arn Anderson w/Gene Anderson. Brown and Weaver worked well together as the veteran showed why he is a tag team specialist. Brown, to his credit, held his own against both Andersons, with Arn taking the brunt of the punishment. But when Brown misconnects with a dropkick on Ole midway through the match, it was a sign of the beginning of the end for young champion. The Andersons went to work on Brown seriously double teaming him in the corner. Eventually, he made the tag to Weaver, but it was obvious, the Andersons’ continued working on the arm, neck and shoulder took a lot of the fight out of him. Once Weaver was in the ring, he carried the load for him and his partner. Brown seemed to get his second wind and Weaver tagged him in. Brickhouse did a great job on Arn, but Ole was able to neutralize that with a knee in the back from the corner. Arn and Ole went to the double team strategy that they employed earlier and won the match and the titles at 14:49 when Weaver couldn’t get in for the save after being held back by Gene.

For the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title, the champion, The Iron Sheik put the belt up against former United States Champion and local native, Magnum Terry Allen. The Chesapeake native and Old Dominion University Alum received a huge ovation from the fans as he came to the ring. This must have upset The Iron Sheik because he attacked Allen before the bell. The Sheik had his way with Allen for the early going, but five minutes into the match, Magnum was giving it right back. The match became a brawl which excited the fans at The Scope. In the fight, Allen took the advantage which forced The Iron Sheik to use a series of suplexes to regain control. This wore Allen down enough for the Sheik to a couple of near pins. The Sheik then bodyslammed Terry and snarled him in the camel clutch. Allen was able to painfully make it to the ropes for the break. Sheik attacked Allen in the ropes but stopped just short of disqualification. The Iranian madman continued the assault but when Allen reversed a whip the ropes, the Sheik found himself the victim of a belly to belly suplex. With a thunderous slam, Sheik hit the canvas and the crowd was on its feet. Allen went for pin and the fans counted along, but Sheik got his foot on the ropes at 2. As Allen positioned for a second suplex, Roddy Piper hit the ring and attacked Magnum. The police at ringside had to keep the fans back as several tried to rush the ring to save the hometown hero. As Sheik and Piper were working on Magnum, Wahoo McDaniel, Paul Jones and Harley Davidson came to the ring and chased the villains away. Allen scored a disqualification win at 19:05.

The NWA World Tag Team Champions, Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood returned to Richmond for the first time since winning the belts and faced the legendary duo of The Anderson Brothers, Ole and Gene. The Andersons controlled the match early on while working on Steamboat. Once tagged in Jay was a ball of fire, taking on both for a time, but settled on Gene and worked him in a headlock. Showing that any combination of Andersons is dangerous, Gene got the advantage on Youngblood and moved him into No Man’s Land, to be double teamed. Ole was brutal on Youngblood, but Jay didn’t give up and fired back with chops to escape and tag Steamboat back in. The give and take between the two teams lasted for another ten minutes.  When Jay snared Gene in a sleeper, Ole tried to interfere but was met with a big chop by Steamboat.  With the referee distracted by Ole and Rick, Arn Anderson came to ringside and hit Youngblood from behind with a boot. As Youngblood fell, Gene fell on top of him. Referee Stu Schwartz turned around to see Gene on top of Youngblood. Steamboat, now out of the ring fighting with Ole, saw what was going on and rushed into the ring. The referee’s hand goes down for the three and Steamer is too far away to help. Jay musters enough strength to kick out at the last second.  Arn is irate on the outside of the ring. Jay is closer to his corner than Gene is to his as Steamboat races back to his corner. As Gene is slowly getting to his feet, Jay tags in Steamboat who nails Anderson with a perfect flying bodypress. Ole tries to help but is met by Youngblood as Steamboat gets the win for his team at 32:08. After the match, Steamboat and Youngblood are attacked by all three Andersons until Johnny Weaver and Mark Youngblood come out and make the save.

In other bouts…

-      MAGNUM TERRY ALLEN won by disqualification over US Champion, HARLEY RACE at 17:12 when Roddy Piper interfered. As Allen and Piper were fighting, Hogan came down and attacked Race. Wahoo McDaniel and Paul Jones came out to help restore order. As Piper and Allen battled to the dressing room and Hogan getting the rough end of a chair shot by Jones…Wahoo and Race found themselves in the ring. Race eyeballed Wahoo and without saying a word left the ring.

-      Mid Atlantic Champion, THE IRON SHEIK beat PAUL JONES at 12:00 with a loaded boot.  Harley Davidson complained to the referee about the infraction, but Sonny Fargo didn’t reverse the decision.

Great win by The Andersons. Puts things right where they should be. Piper sure is heating things up with Allen. Liked the face-off with Wahoo and Race. Davidson and Sheik is progressing well. A down week for Ladd and Master G.

Good stuff.
