In downtown Windsor, the Arena is filling up nicely. Norm Kimber welcomes the throng & we have a rousing "O Canada:,,,and we are set for the opening bout!
Match 1 Jerry Valiant vs, Johnny Powers
One fall 30 minutes
Powers enters first & has cheers to respond to. Sullen "Gentleman" Jerry has hoots & chants of "MASKED STRANGLER" to react to - he is VERY slow in getting prepared. At the bell, Johnny takes charge but the two illustrious vets are very much back & forth. Valiant with the cheating, stalling & whining...Johnny truly the more valiant! He goes to retrieve Jerry from sulking on the floor, but it was a ploy! Powers is run into a post, but Jerry's chop is ducked! The throbbing arm is a target as JP muscles him back in - some stomps then a wringer. Valiant sinks to his knees in a painful wrist-lock & begs for mercy - Powers obliges with a thundering belly-to-back & we have a winner!
Result Match 1 - Johnny Powers pins Jerry Valiant @ 10:10 Match 2 Ron Ritchie & "Rocky" Ed Boulder vs. The Alabama Chain Gang
One fall 15 minutes
The very popular Boulder & Ritchie duo are out first...along with ref diminutive Danny Marsh, they need to repel an attempted jumping by the Convicts. Boulder paired mainly with #2...Ritchie has the other in his hair. Or is it the other way around? Impossible to track the phantom switches. Rocky Ed is pounding on one on the floor as Marsh decides the one Ritchie is suplexing is legal. A fireman's carry gets the striped shoulders stapled to the mat.
Result Match 2 - Ron Ritchie pins a Convict @ 10:20 Match 3 Abdullah the Butcher vs. Moose Morowski
One fall 30 minutes
The Sudanese psycho gets a surprisingly favorable response - what, is he some sort of returning hero? (Oh! Really?). Little of this melee will be shown on TV, Marsh is amazed at the number of gadgets that are turning up, several in Morowski's bleeding head. Carnage tapers off as Abby torments MM - big splashes in the buckles...the MOOSE IS LOOSE! Abby splatters himself on the sidestep & we get rapid-fire headsmashes by the persevering Pole...suddenly the impact has an opposite effect - dramatic no-sell & Moose is down with a sanguinary face rip. Flying splasher wraps it up.
Result Match 3 - Abdullah the Butcher pins Moose Morowski @ 10:20 Match 4 The Great Wojo vs. Sweet Daddy Siki
One fall 30 minutes
Young Wojo has entered but we have an unexplained delay, and now the crowd stirs and gasps. SHEIK ALI comes out with...I GUESS from the disco suit, it MUST be Beautiful Bruce - but his head is swathed in layers of bandages! There might be a gap by his eyes, but he's wearing very dark, large sunglasses.. He's doing the fumbling in the dark routine. Ali imperiously addresses the crowd.
Ali: "This man at my side, Beautiful Bruce, was assigned a TASK! And despite him making us all look bad by INTERFERING with The Sheik's FIREBALL and turning himself into a human Roman Candle, he has proved himself!" Bruce mistakes the booing for cheers and tries waving to the fans - bandaged hands, too.
Ali: "You Americans and Canadians HATE us Arabs! You show us EVERY DAY your hate and prejudice, NOW, we have gone to the TOP! Yes, perhaps even HIGHER than THE SHEIK! THE annointed LEADER is HERE...THE AYATOLLAH! AHAHAHaaaa!" Out comes another Arab, very loose fitting robe and a burnoose that shades his face well. Hmmm, might be from the SOUTH of the Middle East, pretty dark-skinned...He enters the ring as Sheik Ali drones & the crowd buzzes.
Ali: "This man has been directed by ALLAH himself to be the RIGHTEOUS voice, the TRUE messenger, the great...AYATOLLAH SIKI!" As thousands of flashbulbs pop, OFF comes the head garb! IT IS! DESCENDED FROM, well, whatever - SWEET DADDY AYATOLLAH!
AS: "You done heard Ali speaketh, Ayatollah Siki to you unwashed, unbelievin' INFIDELS! The essence of Arab superiority an' greatness, dun come here to make Y'ALL bow down in servitude to Ali an yours truly! Wojo here calls himself GREAT, but my MAGNIFICENT EMINENCE trumps you but GOOD, sucker!" That wraps up our edict from the top of Mount Siki for the day as we get Ali & his spiritual advisor kicking the holy bejeebers out of Wojo! Bruce gropes his way to the floor as the backup refs rush in for the pullapart. After the dust settles & sand stops swirling, the headstrong Pole says he wants to go, so we get the bell! Ali is sticking around as cornerman, Bruce wandering around blindly.
Wojo will eventually learn "live to fight another day". Siki continues the assault and gets the airplane spin finish.
Result Match 4 Ayatollah Siki pins The Great Wojo @ 5:10 Match 5 Joyce Grable © vs. Leilani Kai
One fall 30 minutes
NWA CANADIAN WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
A pleasant change in gears here. Miss Kai proves a worthy challenger with some very acrobatic maneuvers. Grable's apt countering leads to frustration - blatant fouls from our young Hawaiian. Leading, naturally, to referee Yorkston attempting to assert his authority - to very unreceptive response from Moolah's protege. Grable finally takes advantage of the distracted bickering with a rolling cradle.
Result Match 5 - Joyce Grable pins Leilani Kai @ 8:50
GRABLE REMAINS CHAMPION
INTERMISSION Match 6 Chris Adams © vs. "Downtown" Denny Brown
Best 2 of 3 falls, One hour
NWA JUNIOR-HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
A clean start, both seem a bit tentative until the pace is livened by a dandy criss-cross session. Brown leap-frogs Chris! Adams ducks Brown's clothesline! Denny back-drops a cross-body! Adams slides betweeen Brown's lega, Brown hurdles Adams! BOTH try a flying forearm...simultaneously! Both are in a bad way on the mat as Yorkston starts a count. Huzzahs as Denny recovers first - he catapults Chris to a corner by the legs & follows with a crucifix takeover.
Denny Brown pins Chris Adams @ 7:00 - Brown leads 1-0 Adams gathers himself & tries a slower pace. Fast or slow pace, a Super Kick to the teeth works good. The sweet chin music most be a lullaby! Even after the rest break, Denny looks dazed.
Chris Adams pins Denny Brown @ 4:20, one fall apiece And Adams is inspired, he completes the comeback by clamping an Ab-stretch on the still-not-quite-all-there local champ.
Chris Adams submits Denny Brown @ 4:50
Result Match 6 Chris Adams
defeats Denny Brown 2-1 in falls
ADAMS REMAINS NWA JUNIOR-HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP And a sportsmanlike handshake at the end of the presentation.
Match 7 Kurt & Karl Von Steiger © vs. The Caribbean Sunshine Boys (Dave "Butcher" Bond & Johnny Kincaid
One fall One hour
NWA CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL TAG TITLES
Our senior ref is tested here - the CSB have a quick start, leading to the Bavarians running in repeatedly. As the good guys make their switches, there is is acrimonious Aryan arguing. Kurt takes a double back-elbow & is driven to his corner. Phantom switch by the Germans, but Kincaid is dominating Karl now, Kurt is in illegally and Karl plays innocent as he steps out - Bond charges in & tackles Kurt to the floor.
Cashman reiterates to Karl, there was NO TAG! Bond & Kurt put on a real show on the floor! Kincaid has an easy belly-to-back on the bellyaching Bavarian...follows with a Boston Crab that has Karl howling! Karl gives it up just before Kurt runs in - a vicious boot to Johnny's noggin & he is thrown out - Bond had entered to celebrate the win, but Karl is back up & Bond is getting beat up bad! Kurt has him set up...a SPIKE PILEDRIVER as Karl bounds down from the buckles...back-up refs in to chase the sore losers off! OH DEAR, Cashman says we need a STRETCHER before any armraises!
Result Match 7 - Johnny Kincaid submits Karl Von Steiger @ 15:19
CARIBBEAN SUNSHINE BOYS ARE NEW TAG CHAMPIONS
MAIN EVENT TIME! Match 8 "Big Thunder" Gene Kiniski © vs. Mike "Killer" Miller
One fall One hour
NWA CANADIAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Kiniski not pleased by Miller having the extra sidekicks as the belt is paraded. Kowalski waves his manager's licence as Terry Yorkston hustles Joe Nova away...Kiniski still not thrilled, BUT! Miller drops down to confer with Lowalski...Miller talks him into leaving & we get a bell for one on one action. And Miller looks good - takes a backbreaker, rolls from the following knee-drop. Gets caught in a bearhug, has the strength to push to the ropes...a tentative, but clean break!
Both hit headlock takeovers, but Miller takes control with kneelifts slamming into the champ's head - a headbutt leaves a contusion. Next tie-up sees Miller whipped into the buckles but greets Gene with a bionic elbow as he approaches. They now swap body slams - again, Miller avoids the follow-ups. On his next scoopslam, the knee is planted in Gene's mush, now across the throut...broken at 4 1.2. Miller presses on in an exchange of forearms & punches. Kiniski getting gassed? One last hook-up has the champ thrown into the ropes - on the rebound, one BIG boot straightens him up...delayed-reaction...now a quick clothesline...
