Airs-1/12/83 MERCER: Welcome to World Class Championship Wrestling. We have a great program for you today. The NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion, Chris Adams will be in action today against his good friend, Salvatore Bellomo in non-title action. The Moondogs will wrestle Bobo Brazil and Iceman King Parsons. Lord Alfred hays will being the Irwin Brothers back to World Class. Our Main Event will see Sgt. Slaughter, World Class’ newest superhero against the big Russian, Nikolai Volkoff. Right now, I’m joined by “Dr. D” David Shults and his manager, Jim Cornette. The celebration with the cake didn’t end well for Mr. Cornette last week, but two colorfully wrapped packages have been left here at the desk for you gentlemen today. CORNETTE: Ok, let’s open these up, David. Cornette and Shults tear open their gifts and pull out their “presents”: A NOOSE FOR EACH MAN! Cornette looks like he’s seen a ghost! SHULTS: There’s a birthday card in mine. It ain’t my birthday, Jimmy! CORNETTE: Mine either! SHULTS(reading card): Dear lowdown coyotes, I know it ain’t your birthdays. I figured I wasn’t there for your last birthday and you won’t be here for your next birthday! Signed, The Durango Kid. Who is the Durango Kid? MERCER: I don’t know! These were here when I got here! CORNETTE: Whoever you are, Durango Kid, my Dynasty: my Midnight Express, Dr.D, and Gino Hernandez will protect me from anybody who threatens me! MERCER: Speaking of Gino, you and I met him a few days ago upon his return to Texas…. VTR: Bill Mercer and Jim Cornette are at the airport, watching as a private jet comes in for a landing.
MERCER: we are here at the airport, awaiting the return of Gino Hernandez….
CORNETTE: My Mama’s favorite wrestler, Bill! I’m so excited! Maybe he’ll introduce me to Farrah Fawcett!
The plane comes to a stop. The co-pilot de-planes and opens the cabin door of the plane and Gino Hernandez steps out, dressed in an expensively tailored suit and carrying a tennis racket.
GINO: Texas, YOUR CHAMPION is back!
CORNETTE: Welcome back and welcome to the Cornette Dynasty, Gino!
GINO: Jimmy, I am thrilled. Your Momma sent you this tennis racket and she said she hopes you have found a country club worthy of a Cornette so you can continue to improve your excellence on the courts.
CORNETTE: Oh, that Mama! Always taking care of me. How ya doin’? You look great!
GINO: I feel great, Jimbo! It’s great to be back where at least a few people appreciate excellence!
MERCER: I have to ask about your partner Jimmy Garvin and your loss of the World Tag Team Titles.
GINO: Well, Jimmy is laying low and working some things out. He has a condo back in Florida and he said to tell all of his fans here in World Class that he would be back. As for the titles, Bill, you don’t realize how corrupt these hick town NWA promoters like Jim Crockett and Eddie Graham can be. We lost the belt to a Duke Keomuka impersonator and a savage Indian in one of the biggest ripoffs of all time. But, onward and upward. Chris Adams is the World Junior heavyweight Champion and all the ladies can tell you that my body is svelte enough to make weight for that title. David Von Erich, I’ve beat you before and I can beat you again! Scott Casey, American Champion? What a joke. And after what Dr. D did to Kerry, he won’t be in any condition to wrestle me. I am your champion and soon, I’ll have a belt to prove it.
CORNETTE: So, how about it, Gino? Will you introduce me to Farrah?
GINO: Your Mama said to start with somebody tamer. I have Kristy McNichol’s phone number……
Cornette and Gino climb into a waiting limo. Mercer tries to follow, but the chauffeur steps in front of him and slams the door! COMMERCIAL NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Chris Adams takes on Salvatore Bellomo in a non-title match that begins and ends with a handshake. This is a strictly scientific match and Adams scores the pin after a backslide. Scott McGhee, who Bill Mercer says is the top contender to Adams’ title, watches from ringside and also shakes hands with Chris afterwards. COMMERCIAL VTR: Gordon Solie stands in front of the Championship Wrestling From Florida.
SOLIE: My name is Gordon Solie. I am the announcer for Championship Wrestling From Florida. In recent months, the state of Florida has been home to one of wrestling’s great young stars, a young man that many experts feel is destined to be heavyweight champion of the world. Now, this gentleman is on his way to his home state of Texas and World Class Championship Wrestling. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Barry Windham….

BARRY: It’s going to be good to get back to my home state and wrestle for the fans of World Class. The competition there is the best in the entire National Wrestling Alliance and I can’t wait to get there.
Cut to Fritz Von Erich, seated behind a desk.
FRITZ: World Class is going to be built around guys who will be stars in this sport for ten, twenty years to come. Wrestlers like my sons, Chris Adams, and now, Barry Windham. World Class fans are going to love this young man.
Cut to Dusty Rhodes, seated on the ring apron in an empty Sportatorium.
DUSTY: This young man, Barry Windham, son of my old friend Blackjack Mulligan, will electrify the World Class, baby. I remember tellin’ Bobby Jack right after I saw Barry rassle the first time, “ This young man will surpass what we have done in this sport and be World’s Heavyweight Champion. This is the equivalent of an NBA team signing Larry Bird.
Cut to Harley Race standing in front of the Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling logo, wearing the US Heavyweight Title belt.
RACE:I don’t necessarily like Barry Windham personally, but I’ll give the devil his due. He is, without a doubt, one of the young wrestlers who will be the future of this sport. It was a a smart move for World Class to obtain his contract because he has the potential to be one of the best ever!
More footage of Windham in action, set to the music. The song ends and the video fades to black. MERCER: Barry Windham will be coming to World Class Championship Wrestling in February! COMMERCIAL Moondogs Spot & Rex(w/Mr. JR & Moondog King) take on Iceman Parsons & Bobo Brazil. After several minutes of back and forth action, it looks like Bobo and the Iceman will get the win as Bobo hits three consecutive coco butts on Spot. Mr. JR sends King into the ring to interfere! King hits Bobo with his bone And a three on one beat down isa underway! Wait, the crowd is coming alive! Here comes Al Madril! Madril grabs King’s bone put of his hands and goes after the Moondogs! After the ‘dogs leave, madril offers his hand to Brazil and Parsons, but they are understandably leery and back out of the ring. The fans give Madril a huge ovation, but he looks hurt by his former partner’s distrust. COMMERCIAL VTR: Nikolai Volkoff stands in front of a Russian flag.
VOLKOFF: Sgt. Slaughter, you have got into the Russian Army’s way. Comrade Koloff and I are going to take over World Class and show the world Russian superiority. You will not stand in our way and neither will your weak friend Kernoodle! Today, I will destroy you and Texas will see superiority of Soviet Union once and for all!

SLAUGHTER: Right here today on World Class Wrestling, it will be all out war, Volkoff! I’lll fight for my country and you’ll have to KILL me to stop me from fighting, Volkoff! You Russian maggot scum have the gall to come to MY COUNTRY and run down my fellow citizens and our way of life. I’ll never let that stand. The Sportatorium will be full of patriotic Texans chanting “USA! USA! USA!” when I bring Old Glory into battle one more time, Volkoff! I promise all of you fans that Sgt. Slaughter won’t rest until Volkoff and Koloff are gone! No retreat, no surerender, only blood and guts and WAR! And when the smoke clears, the USA will stand tall! Lord Alfred Hays brings Bill & Scott Irwin back and they face a double tough combination of Johnny Rich and Lars Anderson. After several minutes of hard fought action, the Irwins win after Bill pins Lars after s big kick to the head. COMMERCIAL MERCER: Next week, a great hour of World Class championship Wrestling. In our Main Event, Scott casey, the Cowboy man defends his maerican Title against ”Dr. D” David Shults , who I’m sure will be accompanied by manager Jim Cornette. Also, the return of GinoHernandez and much more. Right now, our MAIN EVENT! MAIN EVENT: Sgt. Slaughter comes to the ring with the Marine hymn blaring. Nikolai Volkoff and Ivan Koloff are waiting and Koloff is waving the Soviet flag. Slaughter brings Old Glory in and he and Koloff have a flag waving contest as Mark Lowrance makes the intros. Sarge hands his flag to a ring attendant and Voloff attcks right away! Volkoff pulls off Slaughter’s sunglasses and destroys them! Volkoff hammers away on Sarge and when Slaughter’s hat is knocked off, the Russian stomps it flat! Volkoff beats on Slaughter for a few more minutes, but it looks like the Sarge is fired up. The crowd starts the USA chant and Slaughter has his fists clenched and it looks like he’s poised for a Superman comeback! Koloff hits the ring and slams the flagpole across Slaughter’s back! Slaughter goes down and the reds are stomping him! Here comes Don Kernodle! Kernodle hits the rin and decks Koloff! Kernodle and Volkoff are trading blows! Slaughter is up! Slaughter cannon knocks Volkoff out of the ring! Koloff bails out and the Russians retreat! Slaughter is waving the flag and the Russians are headed for the hills! The fans chant “USA USA! USA!”
